#THE NEW CROYDON
It is not a place that is innovative and exciting but the people who live, work, create and play there.
}
London’s fastest growing economy, Croydon is an ecosystem of tech start-ups, creatives
and professional services. It is doing things its own way, developing new modes of working including co-working spaces such as TMRW Hub with its award-winning community café
attached that is not a corporate chain, but run by locals. New arts and creative quarters like
Matthews Yard are pools of creative thinking and innovation, from office suites to a crowd-funded
theatre and watering holes that are making their mark on Croydon’s restaurant scene.
{
SUBVERTING THE SUBURBAN IMAGE FOREVER.

Transforming into one of the most vibrant and innovative parts of the capital, Croydon continues to retain its own distinct identity.
With £5.25bn being invested across the borough,

also pushing new boundaries with underground gallery spaces and more-than-just-a-gallery
venues showcasing urban contemporary and

SERVING UP A SLICE OF SHOREDITCH ATTITUDE.
From cafĂŠs to stores and event space, the pop-up brings
new ideas, new flavours and new experiences to the urban milieu. The concept, its archetypal converted shipping containers, and a cargo of cafĂŠs, restaurants, pit-stops
and bars has firmly docked in Croydon. Independent and local food retailers sell everything from artisanal Italian
street food, authentic Taiwanese and charcoal-grill classic burgers to vegan specialities, Sri Lankan cuisine and Rio
street food, washed down with Cronx brewery craft ales or something sparkling from a chilled-out wine bar. It brings local traders but with a global dimension.

300 SHOPS 45 RESTAURANTS 6 SCREEN IMAX CINEMA 500 NEW JOBS Croydon has long been a regional shopping hub,
but the arrival of Westfield Croydon will transform the existing Whitgift and Centrale centres into a
world-class retail and leisure destination, bringing
a profile of premium brands and the newest, most sought-after contemporary chains.
LONDON’S GREEN BOROUGH.
One of London’s greenest boroughs with over 120 parks and open spaces, from nature reserves rich in wildlife to the wonderfully restored Wandle Park with the river winding through, trim-trail, and a bandstand. Croydon is developing even more high quality, sustainable open spaces to stroll, take part in sport, or enjoy summer garden parties.
Queens Gardens This familiar urban garden in the centre of Croydon offers a calm oasis for
workers to eat a sandwich, read, have a workout, or take in the street art.
Lloyd Park With its mature trees, woodland and
parkland, as well as horse riding along its bridle path, Lloyd Park brings a real
rus-in-urbe dimension to Croydon. The
Parklife cafĂŠ is the place to rehydrate after a session at the outdoor gym or popular Lloyd Park 5km run against the clock.
South Norwood Country Park With wet land and a lake, as well as
wild-flower meadows, the Country Park is the place for tranquil walks through
the changing seasons, watching migrant birds arrive and depart in spring and winter, enjoying a round of Pitch and Putt, or going for a bike ride.
THE SMART MONEY IS ON CROYDON.
From suits to software developers, public bodies to private finance, Croydon is attracting big corporate names and government bodies like HMRC as new office buildings sprout up to accommodate them. With extensive rail services, including Overground and Tram, London’s other business, finance and tech hubs are easily accessed. Victoria is just 15 minutes away, London Bridge 17 minutes, Canary Wharf 35 minutes via rail and Jubilee Line, Shoreditch High Street via Overground 44 minutes, and St Pancras and Eurostar 28 minutes.

top tips
INTERIOR DESIGN
{
Smart living requires smart thinking. But fear not, design guru Sarah Akwisombe has some tips to help you.
#1 DOUBLE DOWN
Most high street brands are starting to
understand the needs of city dwellers and have created many functional pieces that serve two
uses. Side tables that also double up as stools,
coffee tables that convert into dining tables and
beds that double up as storage can now be found relatively easily and at an affordable price.
#2
PUT BABY IN THE CORNER Think about where there is dead space in
your home - behind doors and corners of
rooms for instance. Look for shelving units
that hug these hidden spaces and turn them into extra storage or an area to display
plants and accessories that can then leave
more important areas in your home free.
#3 PUT YOUR HANDS UP #4 SMALL FEET, BIG KICKS Look for pieces that have a small
base in order to maximise your space.
A floor lamp with three legs for example
might look great but actually takes up way more space than is needed. A lamp with a singular base will be much easier to slip We often forget that we have so much wasted space high above our heads.
Utilise the top of walls for shelving and storage of items that you don’t need to
use on a day to day basis. You can get some design-led storage boxes from high street stores to hide clutter and those bits and bobs that don’t have a home.
#5
SMOKE AND MIRRORS I love to use mirrors as a way to create the
illusion of more space in a small room. Place
them strategically opposite windows or next to a lamp to bounce light around your home, or
alongside tighter pieces of furniture to make the space feel more airy. If you’re feeling daring, a mirror wall is an amazing way to make a space feel so much bigger!
alongside a sofa or in the corner of a room without taking up unnecessary room.
