HEALTH INSURANCE
Getting More Women Covered In 2021
Health insurance coverage is a critical factor in making healthcare affordable and accessible to women. There are good reasons why access to comprehensive and affordable health care for women remains an urgent issue: More than one in ten (11%) of women between the ages of 18 and 64 in the U.S. are uninsured. Uninsured women often have inadequate access to care, receive a lower standard of care when they are in the health system, and have poorer health outcomes. Compared to women with insurance, uninsured women are less likely to get important preventive tests such as mammograms, Pap smears, and timely blood pressure checks, and have higher rates of cancer mortality and greater risk of a latestage cancer diagnosis, according to Kaiser Family Foundation. They are also less likely to report having a regular doctor. ance, on the other hand, receive the preventive and medical care they need to achieve and maintain good health. Benefits of health insurance coverage include improving: ● Access and use of preventive and routine healthcare. ● Quality of healthcare. ● Health outcomes.

The Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, allowed millions of people to have free or low-cost health coverage for preventive services recommended by law, including many pregnancy-related services; out-ofpocket limits, and protection against gender discrimination and pre-existing diseases.
Often, the most common reason for not having health insurance is not the cost of the policy, but rather a lack of knowledge about eligibility for free or reduced-cost coverage. Health insurance is now available to more women thanks to the latest changes to the health insurance law, through the passage of the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) by the administration of President Joe Biden due to the COVID pandemic. Under the new law, more people than ever qualify for financial aid for health coverage, even those who weren't eligible in the past. The amount of the subsidy or tax credit for the premium or monthly payment depends on the estimated household income for 2021. It is important to find out if your estimated income for 2021 is in the range to qualify for a premium tax credit. This is a unique opportunity for all women, and an invaluable chance to access all the medical tests and preventive services they skipped because of a lack of health coverage.
