The Polar Express
By Chris Van Allsburg
For over twenty-five years, The Polar Express has been a treasured holiday classic. One Christmas Eve, a little boy boards the Polar Express and travels to the North Pole. Santa gives him a silver bell from his sleigh, but the boy realizes once he returns home that the bell is gone. In the morning, his sister finds a box with the boy’s name on it and inside is the bell! Only he and his sister can hear the bell. The boy continues to believe in the spirit of Christmas and is able to hear the sweet ringing of the bell even as an adult. Hometown Moments & Memories
By Clement C. Moore
The description of Santa Claus has stemmed from this story that’s over 100 years old. Children learn about his belly that shakes like a “bowlful of jelly” and his twinkling eyes to his droll little mouth. It’s become a favorite for families to gather around the Christmas tree on Christmas Eve and read together in anticipation of Jolly Old St. Nicholas
coming to their house.
