Simulated Education Approaches To Enhance Collaborative Healthcare A Best Practices Review Natalie L. Murdoch, RN BSc MSN
Introduction Over the past decade the need for healthcare professionals to engage in interprofessional collaborative practice to improve patient safety and provide optimal patient-centred care has been identified. In response to these global recommendations, health profession program educators have begun transforming curricula to provide interprofessional education (IPE) experiences to prepare collaborative practice-ready practitioners.
Aims
Make recommendations for future curriculum development and research related to IPE.
Conclusion
Methods Using a systematic review methodology, 375 articles were reviewed and 17 studies met the inclusion criteria. The methodological strength and the impact of the teachinglearning experiences in each study were assessed using three validated tools to recommend best practices.
Results Interprofessional simulation approaches were well received and deemed valuable by the learners. Simulated innovations supported IPE competencies in developing knowledge, skills and attitudes needed for collaborative practice
Identify best practices recommendations for interprofessional simulation education to enable nursing students to achieve interprofessional competencies and promote interprofessional collaboration with other members of the healthcare team.

Interprofessional simulation education… creates an environment where learners have the opportunity to learn with, from & about other healthcare professionals. provides health profession program educators with a means to prepare future practitioners to meet the demands of providing safe, optimal patient-centred care.
Instructor-modeling
in association with simulation was shown to lead to significant outcomes related to enhancing collaboration.
Future Research To identify optimal timing for implementing IPE innovations in healthcare programs. To determine the effectives of collaborative practice on patient care.
