Machine Shop
The Houston Methodist Research Institute Machine Shop provides design consultation, and precision machining on prototypes and custom designs. The Machine Shop can accommodate each customer’s needs in
SERVICES The machine shop provides full service from concept creation to product design to precision machining. Our personnel will order the required raw materials, fabricate the device, and advise the customer when fabrication is complete. The machine shop can also repair devices. We work with a broad range of materials; polymer, carbon-steel, stainless steel, brass, copper, titanium, polycarbonate, peek, or delrin, as well as other materials determined by the design specifications. The Machine Shop is equipped with a full complement of equipment; lathes, knee mills, grinders, CNC Benchman milling machines, vertical and horizontal saws, brake and shear metal former, and silver solder capabilities.

COMPLETED PROJECTS The Machine Shop has been instrumental in the development of many types of prototype devices for satisfied customers. Some examples include:
DeBakey LVAD device created by Houston Methodist Machinist, Juan A. Fernandez
Benchman CNC Mill: 4 Axis Computer Numerical Control Mill bench type which is programmed to do profiling, contours, and complex angles. It uses an EdgeCam Program and it can convert an IGES file from a CAD program for all milling that is needed.
