noun /ˌdā-ˌzhä-ˈvü,-ˈvue/ a feeling of having already experienced something that is actually happening for the first time * * *
Working as the Earth Cabinet Intern at the Institute of Cultural Inquiry in Los Angeles, I spent my time scanning, scooping, pouring, sorting, and databasing earth from all over the world.I knew that each earth sample was unique, but I began noticing uncanny similarities in the visual properties of a number of geographically disparate earth samples. As I explored the bags, bottles, and envelopes of earth,I would often find myself doing double takes -- feeling as though I had already seen a particular sample. In reality the sample was new to me, but I would be mistaken because it looked almost identical to another sample from the collection.
