Last year, the Government commissioned a review of health and safety legislation and associated Approved Codes of Practice (ACoPS). The review, led by Professor Ragnar Löfstedt and assisted by an independent panel, investigated ways of “reducing the burden of health and safety legislation” and produced its final report in November 2011. Our panel of health and safety experts will review Löftstedt and ask where it leaves us in terms of protecting workers from injury, ill health and worse.

The Institute of Employment Rights was established in 1989. It is an independent organisation acting as a focal point for the spread of new ideas in the field of labour law. In 1994 the Institute became a registered charity.

We aim to make a constructive contribution to the debate on employment law, using historical analysis, international comparisons and consideration of the economic and social implications of present and future policies.
