This issue is a very exciting one for all of us here at Genesis Media as we officially launch your Square Magazine and celebrate the exciting partnership between InTallaght and your favourite shopping centre. Here at InTallaght our aim has always been to bring you good news, to highlight the positives within our great community and to revel in the increasing strides we are all making towards a better future for the area. It is because of this attitude that we felt that it was very fitting to join forces with the centre of so much of that positivity - The heart of Tallaght - your Square. Over the past few weeks we have been working closely with Square management, in particular with Director of Retail Jack Martin and Commercial Manager Cathryn McMenamy and it has been a breath of fresh air - the very kind Tallaght has been waiting for. The revived atmosphere in the centre is palpable, the excitement and enthusiasm infectious and the vision is something which we will all enjoy watching unfold over the coming months and indeed years.Where better place,so,to keep up to date on the excitement than your official Square Magazine – available in the second issue of every month with additional coverage also in the first of the month – and of course the brand new Square website, all due to be launched on July 19 from 12 noon. We invite you all to come along and join in our celebration, where balloon modellers, stilt walkers, jugglers, face painters and much more will provide the backdrop of entertainment on a day where we will toast a long-lived partnership. Until next issue, happy reading!

CDI Celebrates Progression With Fun Day A FANTASTIC fun day drew an estimated 1,500 people to Killinarden Community School recently.
and the commitment of their managers to improve outcomes for children,” she added.
The event, which was organised by the Childhood Development Initiative (CDI) was held in recognition of the organisations work over the past year.
The day honoured and celebrated the participation of the children and families from Tallaght West in the children’s programmes co-ordinated by CDI which include Doodle Den (literacy support programme), Speech and Language Therapy (to support speech and language development), Mate-Tricks (pro-social behaviour programme), Healthy Schools Programme (to promote health and well-being) and an Early Years Programme (to support transition to school).
Children, parents, staff, youth groups and community activists attended the fun event which included football skills with the FAI, Irish dancing, story telling, a puppet show, cooking demonstrations, taekwondo and competitions. It also included a performance by ‘Voice of Ireland’ contestant and local singer, Kevin Keeley. CDI Chief Executive Officer Marian Quinn congratulated the children and families involved and thanked them for their enthusiasm and commitment. She said:“More than two thousand children in Tallaght West have participated in CDI programmes since 2007. We have been carefully measuring the benefits and effectiveness of these programmes and have identified that they have brought many benefits to the children and their families. “We want to wish the children every success and sincerely thank their parents and wider families for their support and input. “The success of CDI’s programmes is also a credit to the high quality of staff provided through local organisations
CDI is one of the three Prevention and Early Intervention Programmes (PEIP) in Ireland, which are jointly funded by the Department of Children and Families (DCYA) and by Atlantic Philanthropies (AP). The programmes were set up with the objective of “testing innovative ways of delivering services and early interventions for children and young people, including the wider family and community settings.” Findings from CDI’s programmes will be used to inform the development of policies and services for children across Ireland.
TYB’s Top Score At Beat 24 TALLAGHT Youth Band has been blowing its own trumpet this week – and rightly so after sweeping the board at the Beat 24 competition. The event, which took place in Tallaght Stadium, for the third year running, on July 7, saw bands from Tallaght, Athlone, Arklow, Clondalkin and Mullingar go head to head. Organised by Tallaght Youth Band and Tallaght Festival Band in conjunction with South Dublin County Council the day of marching and music was deemed a huge success. Katherine Reade of Tallaght Youth Band told InTallaght:“It was a brilliant day.We won every single caption and got a surprisingly high score! We are still celebrating.” Tallaght was represented by Tallaght Youth Band Cadets, Tallaght Festival Band and Tallaght Youth Band – Marching Vikings and to its credit Tallaght Youth Band’s first place titles included those in Visual, Percussion, Color Guard (dancers) and Music. This puts them in a great position for the season as they will be travelling to Holland in September to represent Ireland in the European finals. Currently sitting twelfth in Europe overall with British, German, and Dutch bands having already done at least two shows which go towards the competition the outlook is already good. Over the past few weeks a fundraising drive has been taking place to reach the target €8,000 which will complete the €18k fund needed to get the band to Holland. So far, according to Katherine, everything is on track after a recent table quiz and a "Stars in their Eyes" night coming up in a few weeks time. For more information or if you would like to help Tallaght Youth Band log onto www.tallaghtyouthband.com or call Katherine on 0861933816.

It’s been an eventful summer so far for the multi-talented Lucci Minx. THE rapper/singer/dancer/writer from Kilnamanagh is just about to release a new single, has made a new video and has another video shortlisted for an upcoming film award. She’s also been hanging with Snoop Dog and Tinie Tempah. “It’s all getting very exciting,I’ve been working hard these past few months and now I’m releasing a new single called “Love Hate You” next month. I’ll be hoping to get radio play and the video has already been made and is available,” the rising star told InTallaght magazine. Speaking of videos, Lucci will be featuring in the Under-
ground Short Film Festival in Cork next month after her video for “Beamer, Benz and Bentley Remix” was shortlisted for an award in the Music Video Category of the festival. The video was shot in Windmill Lane in Dublin and features some stunning shots to accompany the track. Since returning to Ireland from the US last year she’s certainly been busy.Through keeping in touch with some of her American influences over in this part of the world she got to mix with some proper Hip Hop royalty when Tinie Tempah and Snoop Dog came to perform at the now infamous gig in the Phoenix Park. Lucci got to hangout backstage with them and even managed to get on stage and dance during a performance. “I had one of the most amazing days I’ve had in a longtime, it was so cool meeting Snoop Dog and getting on
stage for a bit of a dance during Tinie Tempah,”she said. Thankfully Lucci was nowhere near any of the carnage that was taking place out in the crowd during the day. “I was backstage the whole time during the gig and didn’t see any of the stuff that was reported to be going on,” she said.“ Musically it was a very good gig, all the acts were great. It’s so sad what happened to some of the people who attended.” Lucci is now looking forward to some exciting times ahead and is hoping to pick up some new fans this summer by introducing more people to her music. “Anyone who would like to get in contact can reach me, or keep up to date with what I’m at through the usual channels:Twitter (@lucciminx), Facebook or my website (www.lucciminxmusic.com),” she said.

So when did you first realise Who are your comedy heroes? that comedy was your calling? How do you prepare yourself for a show - Where do you get your inspiration? Tell me about your early career? - You moved to Ireland in 2003 what prompted you to move here? Tell me about your show Misspelled – it’s well known that it’s about your Dyslexia diagnosis – how has it helped you deal with that? How do Irish audiences compare to Americans?
George Carlin – you guys have probably not heard of him but he’s an excellent American comedian. He’d definitely be one of my favourites.
I suppose I knew in school. I was always able to make people laugh. Humour was always something I turned to in my life and for some reason I decided to try and make a living out of it. I just had to try and find a balance because I’m naturally funny – I’m actually funnier off the stage than on it.
For me creativity is my wellbeing. I need to have strong wellbeing to perform. Some comedians need to be depressive but I tend not to sit down,to keep active and write something down, an idea, if it comes to me as I am going about my day.
I started in New York in the clubs and I came here nearly 10 years ago. I never intended to stay but then I got involved in the International Comedy Club. I put a lot of time into it – it’s my baby and it’s what keeps me here. I’m resident MC and it means I spend a lot of my time in Dublin, I don’t have to travel around much.
In Ireland comedy is mainly a cultural thing whereas in New York it’s such a diverse place. In New York it’s a scene – people who like to go out and watch live comedy. In terms of style between the two there is not much difference but then you compare here to England and there is.In England you have to hit them hard. They like the punchline but here it’s definitely more about having the craic – they [the Irish] don’t like jokes about the handicapped though.
How would you describe yourself as a comedian?
It’s hard to describe yourself but I’d probably say likeable and observational.
It was my favourite show I ever did. It was the hardest too. I’m not up on my etiquette – I often don’t know what’s right or wrong – but Misspelled was great. It was talking about it and dispelling myths. It was very personal but it was helpful for me too.I learned a lot of things, like how I got a raw deal with my education.
You took the show to Edinburgh what sort of a reaction did you get to it?
It had a great run in Edinburgh and then I came back with it and did a few shows in Dublin where it went down very well but the scene is so small it didn’t run

for a long time.I did get a lot of Twitter feedback though and it was all positive.A lot of people got freedom from it.
Do you find that people are less likely to heckle when, despite it being comedy, the subject is sensitive?
It’s not a big deal – it’s not like I got a big disease or somethin’.It’s comedy but it was well written and well scripted and that’s why people liked it. Of course they heckled – there will always be hecklers, they go with the job.
What’s the worst heckle you’ve ever had?
I got heckled once to the point where I had to stop the show and the guy comes up to me after and says“no hard feelings” and pats me on the face so I threw him to the floor. I mean I had a physical altercation with this guy. Not a fist fight but I got him to the floor. I mean I’m up there trying to do my job, you heckle me, stop the show and then come up to me,into my personal space and pat me on the face. You’re going to the floor.
Does it bother you?
The fact is that anyone who heckles wants to do comedy. I heckled back in the day, and I wanted to do comedy, and it doesn’t bother me but there are a few kinds of people who take it to the point where it’s gone to far – and they expect me to accept that…
Tell me about the Iveagh Gardens this month?
Overall the Iveagh Gardens is a beautiful festival. It’s a pretty unique thing. I’m excited about the likes of Reginald D Hunter but the comedy club I run has a tent at the festival and it’s the best craic. Eight acts on representing what The International is all about which is providing a source to Dublin city. It plays a very important role in Irish comedy and should be celebrated.
So you’re encouraging people to support the likes of these festivals to keep comedy alive?
To a certain extent but I don’t think it’s as extreme as that. The problem is that Dublin is fine but the scene around the country is not as big. What we are trying to do in Dublin is keep a high standard. There are a lot of people booking these days and not paying but we do. It’s important to keep standards and maintain them.
You’ve been a relatively short time on the Irish comedy circuit but have made a great name for yourself – was it
18
daunting given that your brother [Des] was so popular over here already?
I never planned on staying here. I’m a pretty laid back guy and if that was the case I’d probably be doing more TV etc but I’m not, so no!
What’s been the highlight of your career so far?
I’m a glass half empty kind of guy. I don’t think I’ve had a moment where I’ve had a ‘this is amazing’ type feeling. The highlight of my comedy career is the sustainability of the comedy club.
What are your future goals?
My goal is to do a few youtube clips for some of the great new acts out there, to interview them and push them. I’m working on a new show myself too but building the scene is my goal.
So any newcomers you’d recommend?
Yeah definitely - Rory O'Hanlon, George Fox, Carol Tobin and Totally Wired to name a few... To keep an eye on what Aidan is up to follow him on Twitter @aidobishop.

Entourage was thronged at the weekend with girls and guys from all over Dublin packing the popular venue out with clubbers keen to meet TV favourite Mark Wright. The hunky reality star who shot to fame on The Only Way Is Essex (TOWIE) appeared at the club with his own entourage and was only too happy to pose for photos and impress the girls the only way he knows how – that winning…smile! The suave Essex boy, whose show Mark Wright’s Hollywood Knights is currently airing, became even more popular last year after coming runner up in I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here and he has since had a dedicated following. Clubbers were thrilled to get autographs as the crowds went wild with burly bouncers on hand to retain the masses before Mark headed to the DJ box and on to the VIP section. Regular club promo girls were on hand to bring that classy element for which Entourage is making a name for itself. First Bressie, now Mark Wright – keep an eye out in InTallaght for news of the next star to come through the nightclub’s doors!

A Note From Jack I am absolutely delighted to welcome you all to the first edition of our new InTallaght Magazine. This represents a very positive partnership and will be a great source for everything that is happening in The Square. The Square is not just a shopping centre, it is the town centre of Tallaght and we are working very hard to live up to this.We want everyone in Tallaght and the surrounding areas to be proud of their centre and happy with the services we provide. We are introducing a lot of positive changes to help with this. The opening of IMC cinema has been a massive boost to the Centre and it has been very successful since opening. To support this,we renovated the West Carpark and introduced a new pedestrian crossing. We also have added mother and baby parking spaces which we are extending to all carparks in the centre. Cinema-goers can also benefit from five hours free parking to give them an opportunity to shop and relax. Internally,we have updated a lot of our signage to make navigation easier. Our customer services desk has had a new information bar added that contains lots of local information including a customer comments box for you to tell us how we are doing or what you would like to see. We have installed soft seating and a community notice board into“Cathryn’s corner” on the main concourse. This is because a town centre is not just about shopping, it’s a place where friends come to meet and socialise. We
will also be introducing a “kid’s soft play area” on level one, which will be fantastic for children aged two to six. There are also a lot of fun activities planned over the upcoming months, our new website and this magazine will keep you updated. The Square supports a lot of local charities and community groups and we are proud to support the local Children’s Hospital. We are also very proud of our sponsorship of Shamrock Rovers. It’s great to see our logo on the shirt and at the ground. We will be doing lots of shared activities and fundraising in the future. On the retail front, it is great to welcome H&M to the Square which will be opening in the Autumn as will Dealz which will be a fantastic boost to the ground floor. We also have plans in place for five other new stores, all of which we are working hard to open before Christmas. With the improvements we are planning and the amazing people who work here, it is our mission to make the Square your first choice shopping destination. We look forward to seeing you soon.
___________________________ Jack Martin Director Of Retail,The Square Town Centre
An innovative and exciting new website is being launched in The Square on July 19 in conjunction with the official launch of your Square Magazine. The site, which is set to impress, has been in production since early 2012 and offers everything from store categorisation to community news. Designed using the very latest in technology the interactive site will give a clearer picture to customers as to what is happening at the centre, where they should go for great deals and what the latest news is in conjunction with the magazine. Designer Jamie Stanton of First Advertising, who created the site, said that it is an exciting move forward for The Square and will be much more customer friendly than the current site. He said:“We have been developing the site since the start of the year but before we embarked on the journey we done a survey to find out what it was that people wanted from their Square site and the results were quite interesting. “Some of the stuff that emerged we didn’t expect, like people asking to be informed as to when sales were on, which was great for us so we worked at creating a place for such elements. “We also noticed a huge increase in mobile traffic – where last year it was 10 per cent of users this
year it is around a quarter so we made it mobilefriendly where it allows the page to display differently but the user does not miss out on anything compared to using a pc.” As part of the redesign the store categories have been completely re-organised to make searching easier and quicker for customers. This re-categorisation has been completed with the assistance of customers at the Square who took part in a card sorting exercise to help develop categories for the stores at the Square. The store guide has a number of additional features including individual store opening times, current promotions, a store location map and detailed brand and product search terms. Stores can be searched by name, by category, by the interactive map or alphabetically. The site also features a unique SALES tag where customers can search out the various stores that are on sale at any time – a useful feature for the value conscious customer. It also links to the IMC Tallaght movies pages allowing rapid access to the current and upcoming films at the Square’s cinema. A huge element of the site is the community aspect which is aimed at including the general public and encouraging them to get involved and interactive. Jamie said:“If there is something happening which people want to highlight, like a pub quiz for example, it can be emailed – we will receive it, vet it and post it if it’s approved. “We are confident that there is something on there for everyone and welcome feedback once the site goes live.” He added:“Ultimately it is the people’s site so we want to hear what they think and will adapt in conjunction with that.” The new site will remain at

Due to popular demand the Polka Dot Party returned to The Square on Saturday June 30 and was a roaring success.
The event, which was the second time the family funday was held here, returned to entertain children and adults alike. With face painters, balloon modellers, arts and crafts and even transfer tattoos there was no end to the entertainment on the day with hundreds of people getting involved. Organisers said:“It really was fantastic. There was so much to do and the place was a hive of activity. The walkabout clown was great too keeping children entertained as they queued for various activities. We are very confident that it will return for a third time.” Also entertaining,on his keyboard,in The Square on the same day was Frank McNamara who raised an estimated €2,000 for Temple Street Children’s Hospital – the most raised by him in any centre by that point.

The main focus for The Square Shopping Centre is community – being inclusive of the people who are the lifeblood of the mall and ensuring that they know that they are appreciated.
With a team of five behind the desk Customer Service Manager Anne Golding says that the reception customers get when they approach the desk is always second to none and that the team’s ethos is to respect, listen and help as much as possible. She said:“Everything we do ties in with the general aim of The Square which is always to be customer friendly. We are doing our very best to answer the queries of the people, listen to what they have to say and move forward with that.”
One team at the forefront, and behind much of the implementation, front of house, of this is the customer service team – which does everything with a smile.
As part of that effort a suggestion box has been placed on the newly installed ‘information bar’ right beside the desk. The suggestion box is there for customers to lodge their questions and ideas with regards to anything in The Square and each entry is entered into a monthly draw for a €50 voucher for The Square.
Based in the heart of The Square, the desk, which has recently been the subject of a slight refit, is facing customers from every angle no matter which escalator they alight.
Anne said:“It pays for people to have opinions. What we want is for people to feel that they have a voice here. What they think really does matter and we want to encourage that.
“The box will be emptied at the end of every week after which staff and management will meet to discuss the contents and reply to customers.” Anne, who started work on the Customer Service Desk seven years ago went on to become the Customer Service Supervisor and later the Manager. She now leads the team on the desk which includes Noreen Ballisty, Monica O’Connor, Ann Hogg, Audrey Butterly and Alice Colclough. She added:“We have a great team working the desk at them moment and long may that continue. “There have been some major changes in The Square over the past few months and we are getting great reaction from the public with regards to that.People can feel the changes and that’s exactly what we wanted – it’s the people’s centre afterall.” The Customer Service Desk is manned during every Square opening hour.

B.o.B isn't just a rapper, nor does he have time for such a simple statement. On his debut album, "B.o.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray" (2010), the Atlanta transplant pinned his rap skills to the sounds of mainstream pop, garnering him his first Billboard Hot 100 No.1,"Nothin' OnYou," featuring Bruno Mars. Two years later,B.o.B further blends the lines between genres with the top of the charts in his sights. On his studio album "Strange Clouds," B.o.B pulls aspirations from across all boards as always – production by Dr Luke and Ryan Tedder, collaborations with Taylor Swift and Nicki MInaj – but also sings along to the plucks of his own acoustic guitar and takes a seat behind the sound boards.
Peter Boyne’s debut album Disguise My Fear is a very beautiful sounding, sometimes haunting record from a young singer/songwriter out to get a few things off his chest. He has put a huge amount of his own personal feelings on this record, he writes and sounds like someone a lot older. From dealing with grief, love, despair and hope, Peter sings from the heart, which is a very commendable trait in a singer/songwriter. The opening tracks“Closer to me”and“Oh How I Wish”deal with the loss of love and the desire to go back to a happier time, wishful thinking expressed with a tinge of sadness. The next track “Georgia” was Peter’s debut single and is a declaration of love for a girl that has the same name as a famous half-Greek Irish celebrity! She also sounds as beautiful as her namesake,if this excellent song is anything to go by.
B.o.B produced five tracks on the full-length offering and executively produced alongside Jim Jonsin and T.I. The next track “Sunny Day” is my favourite on the album where Peter shows the ability he has in his wonderful voice, backed up with a nice chilled out tune. In “That’s Just Not The Way” Peter moves away from affairs of the heart and deals with the struggle of a family trying to make ends meet. Disguise My Fear is a very good record and one a lot of people will relate to. Hopefully it’ll be the first of many from Peter Boyne. If he can kick on after a start like this then a long and productive career should be a real possibility for him. I enjoyed this album and think it’ll appeal to music lovers right across the board.
Lyrically, B.o.B fills in "Strange Clouds'" bass-heavy soundscapes with the lessons learned between soul searching and living the luxurious life.

If you want to know which innovative features will appear in next year’s Windows laptops, look at today’s Macintosh notebook.
Build quality of this streamlined notebook is unimpeachable. The Apple MacBook Pro with Retina display's unibody construction comprises a main chassis milled from solid aluminium with sculpted bottom plate precison-set below. Lid down, it’s just 18mm thick and weighs exactly 2.0kg.
Running Windows, only the nVidia processor is available and this gave a decent 120fps playing FEAR, and 159fps in our ‘low spec’ Crysis test at 1024x768.
Potential niggle points for a would-be purchaser may include the removal of optical drive, FireWire and even ethernet. The last two are covered with (sadly not included) Thunderbolt adaptors, while DVD drives are already far from mandatatory in modern PCs. Business users may balk at the lack of Kensington security slot though.
Even more graphics horsepower wouldn’t go amiss though, as the regular OS X interface is not as fluid as it should be,evident, for example,as some slight‘stickiness’ while fast scrolling through web pages.
That’s the trend noted since the 1990s and this year’s Apple MacBook Pro with Retina display is certainly not going to buck it.
Test’s by tech experts show what the component specification already suggested – this is one fast laptop. A score of 176 points from the WorldBench 6 suite confirmed it as the most powerful laptop we’ve ever used.
Looking at the entry model Apple MacBook Pro with Retina display before with 2.3GHz quad-core and 256GB SSD the lamp i turned on the ‘best’ with its 2.6GHz processor and 512GB storage. All other specifications are identical, starting with the same nVidia GeForce 650M with 1GB DDR5 and 8GB memory. Portwise there are two Thunderbolt, two USB 3.0, HDMI and SDHC card slot. Completing the machine are dual mics,HD webcam,11n wireless and silky glass buttonless trackpad. And then there’s the ultra-high definition IPS panel with 2,880 pixels across and 1,800 pixels running down its 15.3in glossy screen.
Graphics performance is outstanding too – as it must be just to drive the 5.2Mp display. The nVidia GTX 650M automatically hands over to integrated Intel HD Graphics 4000 depending on running apps, in OS X at least.
Pushing it further with resolution set to near-native 2560x1600 and Medium detail will lead to a useful 28fps.
Totalling 95Wh, the massed array of non-removable lithium-polymer internal batteries led to a Windows runtime of 6.5 hours. The specifications and benchmark results clearly excel yet they fail to define the precision build, meticulous design and the essential comfort of this pioneering laptop. If the €2,349 price alarms, know that the €1,949 model carries as much class and only its reduced SSD capacity is likely to affect some requirements.

For the first time in five years fans of the series get the chance to play as the armored giant. Taken place just after the end of Halo 3, Master Chief and the Artificial Intelligence, Cortana have been adrift, aboard the wreckage of the Spaceship, UNSC (United Nations Space Command) Forward Unto Dawn, and find themselves near a Forerunners Alien planet. The Forerunners are a race of Aliens in the Halo Universe who died out 100,000 years before the events of Halo take place. All that's known about this race is that they only ruled for 20,000 years before they disappeared. Halo 4's story won't be the usually straight forward first person shooter which players of the series will have become accustomed to.It will be more focused on mystery, exploration and discovery. A major plot in the game will be changes to the AI Cortana, her over exposure to Halo and the fact that she has operated well beyond an AI's natural life span. She has become,“Rampant”,which is a human version of“Insanity”and usually involves the death of the AI.
Developers of the game have hinted that it will reveal how humanity has adapted to the universe after the war has ended with the series enemy alien, 'The Covenant' in focus while concentrating mainly on how they have adapted Forerunnertechnology into their lives. The Famous Halo multiplayer is coming back with all new modes and weapons. The usual Death match and other fan favourites will return and there will be new modes and games to play. A new feature is 'War Games',taken from the Halo site, “This unparalleled, revolutionary battle simulation system is where Spartans go to hone their skills in competitive combat. SEAT’s latest offering, the Mii, shares its mechanical underpinnings with the VW up! and Skoda Citigo, but from the outside it’s easy to tell them apart. The Mii gets a particularly striking front-end look, with oversized headlights and a much smaller grille that features on all of SEAT’s current line-up. Designed to be suited to city driving, the Mii is deceptively large inside, and while it will only be available with three doors at launch, a five-door version is set to follow soon. With a low entry price, accessible technology and an all-new three-cylinder petrol engine, the Mii is one of the most well-rounded city cars on the market. The sporty version, called the Vibora Negra, which is Spanish for black viper, shows off a range of personalisation options available including bonnet stripes and 15-inch alloy wheels.
MAGA ZINE
The Vibora Negra pack is actually available on all Mii models from the entry-level S to the top of the range Sport. The pack consists of black twin stripes for the bonnet, roof and tailgate plus black side stripes. There are also 14-inch or 15-inch black alloy wheels, a black tailgate spoiler, black side skirts, black mirror caps, a black gloss gear lever and a chequered dashboard decal. Each item can also be ordered individually but if you go for the whole pack it will save you 10 per cent - around £160.The total cost is £1628 including VAT and fitting for models with 14-inch wheels and £1740 if you have the 15-inch wheels. It's available only through SEAT dealers.
IRELAND’S FITNESS MAGAZINE
SEAT says this is the beginning of a range of personalisation packs with plenty more in the pipeline. A concept Mii FR was recently shown at the 2012 Worthersee festival in Austria although there's no official word on whether this will make it into production. The SEAT Mii range starts at £7,845 for the entry-level S model, meaning a Vibora Negra can be bought for under £9,500. Vodafone and 3 Ireland to share network Vodafone confirmed recently that it had agreed to share network infrastructure in Ireland with Hutchison Whampoa's 3, marking the first such deal in the country. Vodafone and 3 will create a joint venture to share their physical network and site infrastructure at about 2,000 locations across Ireland. A source said earlier this month that a joint venture between the operators would result in the biggest network in Ireland while producing "significant" cost savings. The deal follows a spate of similar agreements across Europe where operators are looking for ways to upgrade their networks at a time when customers are cutting back on spending. Sharing infrastructure would enable the companies to expand coverage for customers, buy equipment together to reduce costs, and increase the number of sites connected to a high-speed fibre backhaul network,Vodafone said in a statement.
AIB chief looks for outside investment by 2014 State-owned Allied Irish Banks is hopeful it can attract outside investment in 2014 and expects to have hit 90pc of its deleveraging target by the end of this year, chief executive David Duffy said recently.AIB, effectively nationalised last year in the fallout from a property market crash but is radically shrinking its balance sheet and cutting costs in a bid to return to profitability by 2014."I am optimistic that if we deliver our controllable universe in terms of our performance and Europe is not too negative, there will be investors who are attracted to an investment in AIB," he is reported to have said. The bank is already talking to a broad spectrum of investors and expects to be able to offer them a high single-digit percentage return,he said. The bank by March had shed €14 billion of loans and assets under a €20.5 billion deleveraging target, part of Ireland's EU/IMF bailout deal, and expects to have achieved 90pc of that figure by the end of the year, Duffy said. AIB would support any "workable" proposals by the government to address the high number of loss-making tracker mortgages on the books of Irish banks so long as it does not add risks to the state and can be funded efficiently, Duffy said. The government is exploring ways to shift mortgages that track the ECB interest rate from AIB and state-owned Irish Life and Permanent but Bank of Ireland, which is not fully in state hands, has said it is not involved in the talks."We want to make sure it is a solution that works for the whole system. Otherwise, it's one bank versus another, which is not a place that anyone wants to arrive at," Duffy said. Duffy said he had concerns about the government's decision to allow for mortgage debt of up to €3 million to be restructured under new personal insolvency legislation published by the government earlier this month. The rules require the approval of 65 percent of the lenders to agree to the restructuring. The new rules could "start bringing in all classes of debt in an uncontrolled way," Duffy said.
Both companies will continue to run their own radio equipment and spectrum independently.
Google is Grafton revenues up Ireland's 4pc despite weather number one exporter Google is Ireland's biggest exporter. The surprising fact came to light recently in statistics released early and when considered against our other exporters such as baby food, whiskey and pharma. maybe it is not so surprising after all.The changing face of Ireland's industrial structure is contained in this one statistic. Google's export turnover from Ireland increased 55pc from €6.5 billion to €10.1 billion over the year. The latest quarterly national accounts figures released inadvertently recently by the CSO ahead of the intended publication date bear out the country's success as an exporting hub. Exports over the first quarter of the year reach just above €43 billion. That's 7pc higher than in the same period in 2011.

Irish DIY and builders merchants group, Grafton, better known for its Woodies DIY brand, posted turnover for the half year to June 30 of €1.05 billion –an increase of 4pc on the €1.01 billion in the same period a year earlier. The increased revenue was helped by the translation of sterling turnover at a more favourable exchange rate against the euro - despite little sign of improved consumer spending in its UK and Irish markets. Average daily like for like turnover in the UK Merchanting business, which accounted for 74pc of Group turnover, increased by 1.4pc in the half year. The business delivered what it said was a good improvement in turnover in the first quarter. Trading conditions in the second quarter, however, were adversely affected by unseasonal weather with record levels of rainfall from April to June in the UK. Self-help measures contributed to an improved performance in Buildbase and Plumbase. Selco continued to develop its market position and Macnaughton Blair experienced a recovery in volumes in its general merchanting business. The specialist indoor construction products business that supplies the residential new build market and the bathroom distribution business performed strongly. Turnover in the Irish Merchanting business was down by around 9pc due to a further decline in spending on housing RMI. Average daily turnover in the overall business, including the effect of branch consolidations, declined by 13pc in January and February and at half that rate over the March to June period in what continues to be a challenging market. The impact on performance of lower turnover was mainly offset by cost reductions. Turnover in the Irish Retailing business was down by circa 12.5pc. Adverse weather conditions in April and June contributed to significantly reduced demand for gardening products and trading was also affected by weak consumer spending due to pressure on disposable incomes, Grafton said.
Job vacancies rise 13pc in Q2
Apple sales fly in Tehran despite ban
There was a 13pc increase in the number of job vacancies advertised online in the second quarter of this year compared to the previous three months, according to the latest IrishJobs.ie Jobs Index.
At its gleaming store, RadanMac offers the latest Apple gear - the new iPad, iPhones, iPods, laptops, all-in-one desktop computers and more but this is no ordinary Apple store. It's in Tehran, where Apple and other U.S. computer products are banned under U.S.sanctions that have been in place for years. Despite the embargo, RadanMac is one of an estimated 100 stores in the Iranian capital that openly sell Apple products, often at little more than U.S. prices.
The majority of private sector industries showed a modest increase with export led industries showing the highest. Year on year, there has been a decrease of 3pc comparing Q2 2012 with the same quarter in 2011. However, the dip experienced in the second half of 2011 has largely arrested and the Jobs Index reveals a positive picture overall. Sectors that have experienced a significant increase compared with Q1 2012 include: Production, Manufacturing and Materials (+147pc); Science, Pharmaceuticals and Food (+60pc); Engineering and Utilities (+42pc). Since the low point in 2009 through to mid 2010, these sectors, in addition to a buoyant IT industry, have experienced continued and at times strong growth in terms of the number of jobs advertised.According to the IrishJobs.ie report, sectors that saw a decrease in jobs in Q2 2012 compared with the previous quarter are: Telecoms (-30pc); Transport and Motor (-6pc) and Publishing (-11pc).
"Business has been booming for the last three years," store owner Majid Tavassoliis reported to have said. He said his company employs more than 20 staff and has been supplying Apple products to Iranian buyers since 1995. The company also has a servicing unit and a business sales arm whose clients have included the Central Bank of Iran, state television channels, newspapers and design professionals. Iran's booming Apple business underscores the limitations of economic sanctions by the United States and other countries. Washington and its allies have imposed sanctions in an attempt to curb Iran's nuclear programme, which Tehran maintains is peaceful. U.S. companies are barred from selling any goods or services to Iran unless they obtain special authorization. The focus of the sanctions has been on Iran's banks and oil industry,Iranian individuals and companies that Western capitals believe are assisting what they suspect is Tehran's drive towards a nuclear weapons capability.
Richard Branson to launch into space Flamboyant British businessman Richard Branson, whose Virgin empire has encompassed airlines, music stores, mobile phones and condoms, is turning his hand to launching satellites. The serial entrepreneur and part-time daredevil, who is already working on taking passengers into suborbital space, said today the carrier jet for those commercial flights would double up as an aerial platform for launching small satellites. Fresh from kite surfing across the English Channel, Branson took the stage at the Farnborough Airshow on Wednesday to unveil LauncherOne, a companion satellite-launching business to Virgin Galactic's passenger suborbital spaceflight service. "I believe this new vehicle will create a long-overdue shakeup of the whole satellite industry, disrupting current norms and limitations in exactly the way SpaceShipTwo has for human space travel and space-based science research," he said. Virgin Galactic has taken deposits from 529 people for rides on SpaceShipTwo, which cost $200,000. The six-passenger, two-pilot spaceship, currently undergoing testing, is based on Scaled Composites' prototype SpaceShipOne, which clinched the $10 million Ansari X Prize in 2004 for the first privately-funded human spaceflights.Branson said he plans to fly with his three children on the first operational SpaceShipTwo flight next year.
Margaret Atwood is very good at writing women characters. " I planned my death carefully; unlike my life, which meandered along from one thing to another, despite my feeble attempts to control it…I wanted my death, by contrast, to be neat and simple, understated, even a little severe…The trick was to disappear without a trace, leaving behind me the shadow of a corpse, a shadow everyone would mistake for solid reality." So starts Lady Oracle, by the Canadian author. This absorbing novel was originally published in 1976. On the front of the edition I read, there is a quote from Time magazine, which reads ‘A mistress of controlled hysteria’. It took me most of the book to really understand what that meant.
My mother, great lender of books that she is, passed this on to me when I noticed it on her book shelf last time I was visiting. I had read several other books by Atwood and really enjoyed them.My Mum’s appraisal of this one was “It’s alright but it’s a bit depressing!”
Thanks to an inheritance from her aunt (which she can only collect if she loses 100lbs), newly slim Joan escapes Toronto for London, where she is rescued by a Polish Count and then a Canadian radical with whom she moves back to Canada and marries.
I don’t think I agree. I found the protagonist Joan to be a very sympathetic character. While we may start the book with her faked death, most of it is about her life up to that point. Her mother comes across as a cold controlling woman who Joan can’t wait to get away from.
She doesn’t tell her husband about how she used to be fat, or that she seceretly supports herself financially by writing Romance novels. This double life threatens to all come tumbling around her ears when she gets a proper book published in her own name and starts an affair with an artist.I won’t give any more away as I think you should read it yourself!
Joan has been a fat child and an obese teenager, in an effort to be able to control at least one aspect of her life. This frustrates her mother, much to Joan’s satisfaction. Atwood’s description of Joan’s body and her feelings toward it, coupled with her daydreams and nightmares of the fat woman in the freakshow, I found to be some of the most compelling in the book.Obesity and not only everyone else’s reaction to it but also the feelings of the obese person is not a common topic in the books I have read and I felt Atwood dealt with it very well.
Ms Atwood has a lovely way with words and Joan’s story, interspersed with sections of the Costume Gothic she is writing kept me enthralled all the way through. About The Author Margaret Atwood, is a Canadian poet, novelist, literary critic, essayist, and environmental activist. Atwood began writing at the age of six and realized she wanted to write professionally when she was 16.
Is bleaching better than facial hair removal?
I have a scar on my face from an old piercing - how can I best cover it up?
Elaine Lynch, Firhouse Karen Martin, Kiltipper Hi Elaine, good question! Well, regarding facial hair removal and bleaching it is quite a personal thing. It really depends on the individual person. Bleaching does has its benefits. One being that it is pain free, but the down side is that the hair is still there but it is blonde instead.Regarding damage to the skin some people say that waxing can cause damage to the skin but I believe that if the treatment is carried out correctly and the skin is stretched and not pulled there should be no damage caused to your skin.
Hi Karen, it really depends on the scar. Some scars can still be red and if they are then you can use a yellow toned full coverage concealer. If it is an older scar then all you need is a full coverage foundation and concealer to match. Also use a setting powder, keeping the area as matte as you can. Any highlighting products will make any imperfection on your skin more visible. If you have any questions about makeup application, AnJels Pro Makeup team is here to help! Pruning Prune back your rose bushes after the first bloom. You can either dead head the spent blooms or do a major cutting back to keep them under control. Cut back all weak and dead wood as well. Lastly, clean up all spent leaves - especially if they suffered from black spot. Many spring flowering shrubs will benefit from pruning in early summer as this can give them time to make the new growth necessary for next year's flowers before the end of the season. Water Gardens Clear pond water can be achieved with proper plant balance. If the pond is in full sun, 50-70 per cent of its surface should be covered with foliage such as Floating Heart,Water Hyacinth,Water Poppy,Water Lily, or Lotus. Underwater grasses produce oxygen, helping to maintain D.O.Levels (Dissolved oxygen).Grasses will improve water clarity by using Nitrate. Following are some easy guidelines to know when trying to figure out how many grasses are needed: ● 1 clump of grass per 1 sq. ft. of surface area for ponds less than 25 sq. ft. ● 1 clump of grass per 2 sq. ft. of surface area for ponds greater than 25 sq. ft. Time to fertilize all Water Lilies and Lotus once a month to keep them blooming continuously throughout the season. Lotus plants are great for container water gardens on a deck or patio. Whiskey barrels make an ideal container for these types of water gardens.
faster rate,Therefore creating a need for a diet higher in protein, which the summer food contains. Tips on applying weed killer: ● Do not apply weed controls on newly seeded areas. ● Do not apply weed controls on windy days. ● Do not apply weed controls near or on the edge of waterways. ● Do not allow children or pets to play on lawns freshly applied with weed controls. It is best to wait one week. ● Do not apply weed controls when temperatures are above 85 degrees F. ● Always follow the label directions. Going To Seed As the flowers in your garden start to fade, you will see seed pods begin to appear. What does this mean as far as the plant's growth is concerned? How does it affect the appearance of your garden? It means that the plant will put most of its resources towards the seeds and creating them. If the seed pods are allowed to remain, the plant will not continue to give you flowers like it would if the seeds were removed once the flowers go over. You might end up with a garden full of seeds and not a lot of flowers. Therefore, faded flowers should be cut off.You should go around every day as you go about your gardening with some type of scissors and cut off all the dead flowers. You can add this organic matter to your compost bin.
Tropical Water Lilies make a spectacular show of color for any water garden.Whereas hardy Water Lilies bloom only during the day, tropical varieties, which are considered annuals in this area, include day and night bloomers. This makes it possible to enjoy the bloom in the late afternoon and evening. Day blooming Tropical Water Lilies bloom heavier than hardy lilies. The flowers stay open longer each day and they bloom much later into the season.
But, there are, of course, exceptions to every rule. There are some plants that are grown because of their color or shaped seed pods.Among these are the Chinese Lanterns plants. It is a low-growing plant with white flowers that some may think are not as pretty as many other flowers, but when the flowers have gone over, balloon-like seed pods gradually appear. At first these are green, but in time they will change to a brilliant orange-red. They can be used in vases in the house throughout the winter to brighten the decor.
Feeding Your Fish It is now time to switch from spring fish food to summer fish food since water temperatures have risen above 70 degrees. At higher temperatures, fish metabolize at a
At this time of year, you might find a lovely flower on some plant in your garden and you just want to save the seed. Tie a piece of string around the stem so you will recognize it later and very carefully remove the other
flowers from the plant as they fade. Then, when the seed is ready, you can cut the stem bearing the seed. After leaving it in a warm dry place for a few days, carefully separate out the seeds and put them away for another day. They should be kept perfectly dry. This is one technique towards creating your own special garden and an interesting gardening technique as well. In some cases, it is a good plan to sow seed as soon as it is ready as it grows more quickly than seed that has been kept over winter. For annuals, this may not be practical this late in the season. This, of course, depends upon your growing season, how long the individual plant actually takes to set seed and other factors. With Perennials, you might be able to get a head start on next spring by planting the seed in a protected area for the winter - maybe in a cold frame in a protected area. On the other hand, there are some seeds that just do not grow for a long time. Some seeds require a certain number of hours of cold temperatures or even below freezing temperatures before planting. You will have to research the individual plant you have seed from to see what is practical.
Protein Supplements: Make Sure You’re Using The Right Products Protein powder supplements are popular supplements for strength-training athletes, bodybuilders and other active individuals, but they can be useful for anyone. The supplements are high in protein and tend to be low in carbohydrates and fat, which can make them appropriate for a range of dietary needs. While protein supplements may promote health benefits, check the labels closely, as nutrition facts vary among brands and the majority of them contain various artificial sweeteners such as aspartame K, sucralose and metals such as mercury, lead, cadmium, and arsenic. Protein powder can be a convenient alternative to other high-protein foods such as meat and fish, as those take longer to prepare. Keep in mind these are an alternative and will never replace real food. Research from the June 2010 issue of "Nutrition & Metabolism" suggests that whey protein powder is more effective than other types of protein for increasing muscle size when combined with weight training. Not All Whey Powders are Equal For starters, many commercially-available whey protein powders are significantly damaged and nutritionally deficient due to over-processing and because the original source of the whey is compromised. Plus, some popular leading brands of protein powder may contain dangerous levels of heavy metals. A recent Consumer Reports' test showed that three of the 15 protein drinks tested contained risky levels of arsenic, cadmium, and lead. Do yourself a favor... Check out this list and make sure you're buying a whey protein powder .
TheEssentialstoLookForinYourWheyProteinPowder 1. Whey protein concentrate, NOT protein isolates. Protein isolates are proteins stripped away from their nutritional cofactors. There are three problems with that...All isolates are exposed to acid processing. Your body cannot assimilate proteins in isolated form.Due to over-processing, isolates are deficient in key amino acids and nutritional cofactors. 2. Sweetened naturally,NOT artificially, and low carb. Most whey products are artificially sweetened. Your whey should be low glycemic, low carb and should not contain any artificial sweeteners, sugar alcohol, glycerin, fructose, sugar or gluten. 3. Maximum biological value. Most whey proteins provide some benefit but, due to the ingredients, the source of the whey, the concentration of beneficial nutrients, or the type of processing, many whey products simply don't deliver what they promise. 4. Easy to Digest, NOT Causing Digestive Stress. Many whey products contain long-chain fatty acids which are hard to digest and require bile acids to absorb. You want a whey protein powder with medium chain triglycerides (MCT).These are easily absorbed, digested quickly, and utilized as energy without causing digestive stress. 5. Free from Toxic Heavy Metals. Many protein powders both whey and non-whey could contain dangerous levels of heavy metals like mercury, lead, cadmium, and arsenic. Any high concentration of heavy metals taken over time could lead to serious health consequences.

Greenhills Archery Club was founded in 1982 by Eric Walsh in The Scout’s Den in Tallaght. By 2005 the club had increased to include Inchicore Archers and it has been growing in archers ever since. Today Tallaght Community School Sports Complex is home to the club which says it is lucky to have had ‘the right people in the right place’ for the past 30 years. Tom Moylan,Chairman told InTallaght:“I joined Greenhills Archery in 1992. A friend gave me a bow and some arrows and after a fruitless attempt to learn to shoot with it I decided to do it properly ie; join a club. It turned out to be the right decision because apart from the fun of shooting and winning the odd trophy I have had more fun and made more friends than any other time in my life. “After about six months a member of the committee appointed me Chairman and promptly left me to run the club as best I could. Luckily I had a good committee around me and we have gone from very small beginnings to what you see today – long may it last.” The younger archers at the club are coached and encouraged by John Hutchings and Eric Kelly. Some of the youths play for fun and others for competition.
The club is equipped and supplied with all things archery by Keith Hanlon A.S.I Ireland who, it is said, is far more than a member of the club.To his credit Keith is a 1994 Olympian where he placed 21st and is described as an ‘inspiration for archery in Ireland’as well as to Greenhills for decades. Greenhills Archery Club is the sister club of Liffey Archers and in 2011 the two jointly held the All-Ireland Target Championships with archers from Archery Ireland and N.I.A.S at the Kings Hospital grounds in Liffey Valley. Senator David Norris presented the trophy’s and medals on the day and complimented Greenhills on a very well-run and organised competition at which people from all over the country gathered. Now in its 30th year the club is stronger than ever with members taking home accolades at all levels. Both Ryan McCarthy and Christy Banks won medals this year – Ryan in the schools shoot run by Pat McGloughlin at St Michael’s School Merrion Road and Christy taking the 2012 National Masters Compound title in Cork. The club is eager to get across that the cost of joining for new members is reasonable – whether to shoot at club level or go on to shoot at competition standard it’s a cost in time and money, it says, that is very well spent for Junior, Senior, Male and Female prospective members. The club meets on Wednesday nights from 8.30-10pm. The club can be contacted at:

Frustration For Rovers, As They Continue To Draw Games As has become a habit this season Shamrock Rovers continue to rack up draws in matches where they really should be winning. The Hoops have the most number of draws of any team in the league with seven going into the second half of July. The Hoops unbeaten home league record remains intact but away from home they continue to let the opposition score first as has happened in every league game away from Tallaght Stadium. Stephen Kenny was very pleased with how his team played in the Dublin derby against St Patrick’s Athletic in Tallaght but was disappointed with conceding a late equaliser to the Saints. “The team put in a very good performance against St Pat’s,” said Kenny. “We need to make sure we apply ourselves as well as we did (against Pat’s) and show the same passion and aggression.”
Craig Sives put in an excellent display against Pat’s and proved a real handful when he got forward from defence. He scored the Rovers goal on 71 minutes when he got his head on a Billy Dennehy cross. Stephen Kenny deployed his Rovers team in a 4-2-3-1 formation, a system that proved very effective against Pat’s in the second half of the EA Sports Cup quarter final last month. Rovers had the bulk of the possession in the game and the Hoops had a great chance to make it 2-0 with two minutes remaining. Brendan Clarke’s save from Gary Twigg would prove crucial for the Saints. St Pat’s got an opportunity to get forward in injury time and Pat Flynn, against his former club where he failed to score in four
CHRIS TURNER: The former Northern Ireland under 21 international player Chris Turner played an instrumental part in Shamrock Rovers’ success last season. One of his most telling contributions to the Hoops in 2011 was probably one of his easiest – Turner was in the right place at the right time to score from two yards for the only goal of the game in the Champions League second qualifying round first leg against FC Flora Tallinn last July. That goal by, the 25-year-old midfielder, set Rovers on their way for the 25,000km European adventure that would see the team play in Tallinn, Copenhagen, Belgrade, London, Salonika and Kazan over the second half of 2011. Turner began his career at Derby County, the club that Gary Twigg also started with. He then moved back to Ireland with Sligo Rovers followed by Bohemians before returning to Britain, this time for a short spell with Partick Thistle. He joined Rovers from Dundalk in 2010 winning the first trophy of his career when the Hoops lifted the league title that season. Last year, he picked up another league winner’s medal, along with Setanta Cup silverware.
years, calmly took the ball down in the box on his chest and his shot found the back of the net. It was to be another 1-1 draw five days later when Rovers travelled up the M1 to take on Dundalk. The Lilywhites had been rocked earlier in the week when their manager Sean McCaffrey left the club. This was on top of serious financial concerns about the viability of Dundalk seeing out the remaining games of the season. The Dundalk players put all those matters behind them against Rovers and caretaker boss Darius Kierans saw his side lead 1-0 at the break. Stephen Kenny introduced Daryl Kavanagh just before the hour mark and Kavanagh was instrumental in bringing Rovers back into the game. He scored on 63 minutes when he got on the end of a Sives knock down and a minute later Peter Cherrie in the Dundalk goal denied him a goal with a good save. The game saw the return of Pat Sullivan to the Rovers starting team after a delay in getting his International clearance following his time in Australia. Sullivan’s experience will be welcome as Rovers face into their two-game tie against Lithuanian champions FK Ekranas in their attempt to qualify for the Champions League. Rovers have been drawn against Limerick FC in the semi-final of the EA Sports Cup with the match currently scheduled for August Bank Holiday Monday (August 6) with a 7pm kick off. Depending on Rovers’ progress in Europe and the draw for the third qualifying round of the Champions League (that takes place on Friday, July 20), the date of this game may have to be changed. by Macdara Ferris
