In the 120 years since the formation of the Royal Navy Submarine Service, submariners have done, and continue to do, incredible deeds in contribution to our Nation’s security. The extent of personal sacrifice has been vast; almost 6,000 souls have been lost in times of both peace and war.

The fact that so many of these brave people have no known resting place makes this memorial all the more poignant. I am extremely proud of the way in which the submarine community has come together to create this moving sculpture, and today I dedicate it to the entire Submarine Family.
