LOYAL FIRE DEPARTMENT
Loyal Fire Department was established in 1897, & is celebrating 125 years. In 1924, 35 members organized a department. At the time of their organization, the steamer they used was either pulled by horses or by men. When there was a fire, the steamer was pulled down to the creek and pumped full of water. In 1925, the department was able to purchase their first truck, a Ford that cost $263.00 and additionally they spent $1286.50 on equipment. In 1994, they formally became a corporation. Currently, the fire department has 35 members. In 2021, Scott Radue was appointed the new Fire Chief. There have only been 9 Fire Chiefs since 1924. The departments’ structure consists of a Fire Chief, Assistant Chief, 2 Captains, and 2 Lieutenants. The ambulance service is led by Chief Mike Meyer, 1 Assistant Chief, and 14 EMTs/ EMRs. Loyal Fire Department and the EMT service is located on North Wolf Street in Loyal. In 2007, they built an 8,000 sq ft station. The Loyal Fire Department covers the Town of Loyal, Town of Beaver, and the City of Loyal. The coverage area is 72 square miles. The current population of the area served is 2,943. They have 2 engines, 1 heavy rescue truck, 2 tankers, 2 brush trucks, 1 UTV, and 1 ambulance. They average approximately 20 calls per year and about 110 EMT/EMR calls. 86
