Leather is our expertise, and we predominantly work with aniline leather, which retains all the natural characteristics of the animal, showcasing its unique life. By embracing these imperfections, we celebrate the authenticity and uniqueness of each piece. Moreover, leather is a residual product, making it a sustainable choice for furniture. By repurposing this material, we contribute to reducing waste and minimizing our environmental footprint.

The Clip, designed by Lucie Koldova, originated from a concept where two identical upholstered shapes are brought together at opposite corners in a tubular steel clip. Since our last magazine, our collection has expanded even further and we have been able to introduce more Jess into the
world.
As an international brand, we want to pay close attention to people and the environment. In recent years, we have increasingly focused on sustainable entrepreneurship. Because sustainability is a top priority for Jess, we only work with natural materials. The production process also takes place in the Netherlands and we aim to work with as many local partners as possible.
We are committed to developing our brand’s quality, designs and professionalism. We want to create an even bigger international platform, and we achieve that by visiting international trade fairs, strengthening our business relationships, offering training and looking out for our colleagues. We want to be and remain, distinctive. It has already taken us far, but we want to make it even more significant. We are happy to take you with us on our journey.

Sven Dogs
Sven Dogs Design Studio, based in Vienna, is still managed by Sven Dogs today. From the first sketch to the entire work and development process, Sven Dogs focuses his work on continuous and intensive cooperation with local and global companies. He transfers his concepts with innovative and experimental ideas into products, spaces and experiences.
Gijs Papavoine
The designs from Gijs Papavoine are comfortable and contain a high level of decorum and high class. Just like our Jolly. You immediately think: “that’s where want to sit!” The designs from this designer are elegant and formal. Gijs Papavoine likes diagonal lines and slim silhouettes. He combines hollow and bold lines which end up in surprising forms. It needs to be simplistic and straightforward.
Jess Original
The Jess Originals were conceived and designed by Jess’ creative designers and created by our in-house production team. A Jess Original is a durable, sustainable and modern asset to any interior. We like our designs to be unique, pure and seductive.
Robert Bronwasser
Our prize winner Shuffle was designed by Robert Bronwasser. This renowned designer is a famous name in the design world. His designs are characteristic because of the rounded corners, clean lines and functional twist. It means that you can use the Shuffle family in different ways. Robert Bronwasser likes pure and tough materials, which express nonchalance at the same time.
Hugo de Ruiter
Hugo de Ruiter is always looking for meaningful innovations in his furniture designs. The use and the experience are of great importance. The result is non-conformist solutions with a striking functional character and surprising design. Hugo takes his inspiration from nature, art, architecture and technology, but above all from life itself.
Marc TH. Van der Voorn
A brand new cooperation led to a new design: Vain. Our Vain is designed in collaboration with designer Marc Th. Van der Voorn and is characterised by rounded angles and goes inward. As a designer, Marc Th. Van der Toorn likes to experiment with materials and challenging production processes.

Blooming flower the Jolly
One of our latest designs is Jolly. The new collection’s theme is ‘embrace’, which is reflected by the Jolly’s distinctive frame. This collection of chairs is refined and features subtle details, such as sophisticated topstitching and a mix of leather and fabric. The Jolly was created by designer Gijs Papavoine.

Sustainability is a top priority for Jess.
We think it’s important to use materials that are sustainable, durable and can be reused.
We have recently been certified as a Socially Responsible Entrepreneur.
For us, corporate responsibility goes further than just using natural products. We choose to have our production process take place in the Netherlands and to work together with local entrepreneurs and designers. We also think about the lifecycle of our designs. We want to be able to reuse used designs that are at the end of their lifecycle, so that no design is lost. In addition to using natural leather, we are also working with fabric more and more.
These substances are also partially recyclable. For us, corporate social responsibility also lies in the way we do business. We try to create a safe and pleasant atmosphere in the workplace as well as ensuring that the fruit bowl is always generously filled. Healthy employees means a healthy company. Do we have residual waste? Then we process that into other products, such as designs from our Global Balance collection.
At Jess, any residual materials are used to create new designs, which are launched under our Global Balance collection.

We would like to give something back to the environment and to our customers and suppliers.
We have been working on reusing materials in combination with residual leather waste for some time now. In addition, we also want to offer an entry-level seat, which is lower in price. This is how our Global Balance collection came to be. This collection consists exclusively of products made from residual leather. We don’t want to throw anything away. We make chairs and bar stools (Mila and Nelson), among other things. But also business cards, coasters, placemats and pillows. This increases durability and we do not have to purchase new leather hides to meet the demand. That makes us and our Global Balance collection unique.

The Mila is a Jess Original made from residual leather that elsewhere would be thrown out. The Mila is characterised by its distinctive patchwork sections and slender frame.
Nelson
The Nelson chair is also part of our global balance collection. Made from residual leather, because we don’t like wasting natural products. Nelson has a coarser frame, is made from stainless steel and comes in the colour Old Glory.
Our Mila bar stool is just as sustainable as our Mila chair, but slightly higher and perfect for a bar or higher dining table.

UV-resistant
The steel underframe is finished with a UV-resistant coating, which is available in three RAL colours. The material used will not rust. However, it’s better for the inner frame if the furniture is not left outside in all weather. We recommend covering the chairs, loungers and/or three seater sofa with a specially designed cover, or storing them in a dry place, during the winter months.
Quick-dry foam
Outdoor range is made using Dryfeel, which is a quick-dry foam. This specially developed material has a wide-open cell structure, which allows water and moisture vapour to be eliminated quickly and efficiently. This maximises user comfort, even under moist conditions.
Weather-resistant fabric
The fabric used for the Outdoor range is of top quality and is waterrepellent and mould-resistant. It’s not completely waterproof but can withstand showers of rain. Specially designed protective cover for a full guarantee, the furniture must be protected against extreme weather conditions. We, therefore, recommend using the protective cover specially designed for this furniture. It’s made from Surlast, which is a technical textile from the Sunbrella Marine Protection Collection.

Warehouse Hotel Singapore
One of our biggest projects is the Warehouse Hotel in Singapore. This fantastic hotel, based on the banks of the Singapore River, has created an incredible atmosphere with the help of our design furniture.
With some of our sofas and lounge chairs the Warehouse Hotel, which has 37 rooms, have created a pleasant atmosphere in which the guests can spend their time. One of our designs that can be found here is the Vasa lounge chair.
The comfortable Vasa chair can be ordered with or without armrests. Other Jess Design furniture used in the hotel are the Earl and My Home sofas. This gives the hotel which was built in 1895 a robust look. The Warehouse Hotel in Singapore is one of the projects we are extremely proud of!

This hotel is a Greensign Level 4 hotel, where sustainability, energy efficiency and environmental awareness are of paramount importance. The hotel also runs on 100% natural energy as well. They combine urban gardening, high-end technology, solid wood and cutting-edge designs with a raw shipyard style. The ships literally leave the harbour right next door. How cool!

Due to similar sustainability goals, the Me and All Hotel and Jess are a perfect match. This is work for a muscleman: the leather covers are manoeuvred over the foam and wood or steel structure until the required shape is achieved.
In the end, all parts come together and end up with Harris, our assembler. He looks for the right frame for the right upholstery, finishes the products beautifully and puts on the finishing touches.

Cold foam and no-sag springs ensure the best sitting comfort. Cold foam follows the contours of your body, supporting it and guaranteeing years of comfort. The zigzag suspension has excellent resilient properties and will last for years.
Different leathers
Our leather
Design furniture created by Jess are made out of 100% natural leather, this leather has been obtained in a socially responsible manner. Every hide is different and has particular characteristics. This also means that our designs could have minor imperfections, which gives our products character and a unique lively appearance. We appreciate these small irregularities, it’s simply natural!
Our production process starts and ends in Oss, this is also our home base. The hides arrive in our warehouse and go through an extensive quality check to ensure they’re up to standard. Here we check whether the hides don’t have big colour differences, stains or holes. Hides that don’t fully meet certain criteria aren’t thrown out, we use these hides for our Global Balance collection where we turn them into placemats, pillows, leather samples or other accessories.
Natural characteristics
Because we use natural materials for our products, there’s always a chance that the leather on your product has healed scars, mosquito bites or pigment stains. Every animal is different, which means that there could also be a difference in the grain and structure of the hide. Due to the different finishing methods, these natural characteristics are easily lost, yet we strive to retain as much of this natural structure as possible. Our leather is unique due to its different natural characteristics. That’s just how we do things at Jess!
Leather characteristics
There are different characteristics that are welcomed in our products and which contribute to their lively appearance. Think about neck folds, horn injuries, abrasions, barbed wire damage, rough and manure stains, warts and insect bites. These natural characteristics are allowed to be in the leather on our designs. These characteristics don’t lessen the quality of the leather, on the contrary, they ensure that there is a clear visible difference between artificial or synthetic leather and authentic leather.
It’s possible for salt stains to form during the tanning process, this is an essential step to prepare the hide for the furnishing process and is due to this also accepted. Hornet bites and other insect bites are often clearly visible on the skin, we do our best to use these parts of the hide in less visible areas of the product. As these are naturally occurring characteristics of a hide, they’re allowed to be there, it’s simply part of the animal.
Bonanza leather
Bonanza is a tough kind of buffalo leather that looks more rough and wild and has the feel of the nature of the animal itself. The hides are tanned with natural materials and afterwards, the grain side is manually treated with oil to provide the leather with a rough character. The beauty of this kind of leather is the various colour differences and the naturally occurring marks such as insect bites and scratches.
Aurula leather
Aurula combines the finesses of an oily finish with the rugged, authentic character of the Buffalo skin. The skins are mainly dyed with chromium, giving the leather a smooth and soft touch. The product is processed with aniline dyes ensuring no distinct skin characteristics are covered. The greasy leathery touch is created by the finish which contains multiple different types of refined mineral oil.
Luxor leather
Luxor is drum dyed with high-quality aniline dyes. Due to the applied vacuum drying system, the leather keeps its compact fibre structure ensuring that excessive stretching and looseness will be avoided. After the skins are processed into a crust and a special wax is applied on the grain which gives the leather a very sturdy look. After finishing, the leather gets tumbled in a wooden mill to create a broken grain effect. Finally, it’s plated to obtain a nice smooth and semi-shiny look.
Sadie leather
This product is aniline leather with a special wax on top, made on the best German cow skins. The combination of 2 natural products, cowhide and beeswax, makes this a very special leather. The leather is tanned with natural minerals and coloured in drums with high-quality dyes. In order to emphasise the natural qualities, natural characteristics are seen as an extra benefit. These natural characteristics should be seen. Characteristic of this aniline leather is the (possible) difference in colour within a batch or even per skin.
Jess wooden tabletops
Wood is a natural product. Not a single tree is the same: they all have different characteristics and characters. Meaning, your dining table may look different from your coffee table, for example; there may be differences in structure or colour with respect to the wood sample in the store or other products. These features are proof of your original designer furniture.
Oak
Oakwood is a European hardwood that you can recognise by its light, golden colour and uneven structure. The colour differs a lot from other types of wood. Oakwood, for example, has fewer knots and is heavier than softwood. Oakwood is also recognisable by its straight grain. The wood is finished with oak oil.
Brushed oak black
The black oak table top is first brushed. then the wood is finished with a black lacquer. A brushed finish has the benefit of making made scratches less visible.
Old Glory
We have four different types of frames, each with features and processing traces characteristic of that type of frame.
Brushed stainless steel
The Old Glory frame is hot-rolled structural steel. Welding seams and machine marks are visible on an Old Glory frame, which is also the intention. These frames are supposed to have a vintage look.
Walnut wood has a beautiful, dark colour and a nice smooth surface with a refined grain structure. We like to use it because of its beautiful appearance. Over time, walnut wood will become slightly lighter in colour. Our designs with walnut wood are finished with walnut oil for a glossy look and the best results.
The difference between brushed and polished stainless steel is that brushed stainless steel has a rough surface, whereas polished stainless steel has a smooth surface. Brushed stainless steel is a type of metal having a dull polish that is made through friction. Polished stainless steel is a type of finished stainless steel that has a shiny appearance. This also means that light brush scratches are allowed in production.
Coppered
Our coppered frame is clearly provided with properties and processing tracks that are characteristics of the copper appearance. You may see some factory marks and welding seams as well, but that’s the intention.
Black Epoxy
The tubes are made of hot-rolled structural steel and the solid wires are hot-rolled solid steel. The hulls go into a phosphate tar tunnel whereby they change colour and are then finished with a clear varnish to make them water and dirt-resistant.
Walnut
Jess fabrics
The fabrics that we use for our furniture consist largely of natural materials such as jute, cotton and linen. These fabrics have the same properties as our leather. Natural properties are visible and make every product unique. In addition, we use fabrics that also have non-natural properties so there is a choice for a different look and feel. This also allows us to serve customers for the project market and outdoor furniture.
Porto
This sturdy fabric provides excellent upholstery on our models. The melange of colours makes combining this fabric with other shades or materials very easy. Porto looks like wool, without containing wool.
Odense
Odense is a mix of wool and linen. This fabric has a soft grip and a subtle colour palette. The fabric seems to have a felted appearance, but if you look closely, you can just see the weave pattern. The subtle and trendy colours fit into any interior.
Trier
Trier has a clear structure and spots different colours of thread, subtlety giving the fabric more depth. The fabric has a robust appearance and a pleasant ‘touch’. Upholstered on our furniture, this fabric gives a vibrant look to the model. The collection is composed of timeless colours.
Stockholm
Stockholm fabric gives a rustic but elegant look to every piece of furniture. The chenille yarn in the fabric will create a semi-vintage look when used. This creates a unique and vibrant appearance.
Paris
Paris is a beautiful fabric that gives your interior a robust look. This fabric is made of 100% linen. With consistent use, a slight haze may occur due to the linen in the fabric’s composition. The light haze is caused by the fibres of the outer layer of the yarn being bruised (a yarn consists of millions of fibres). This bruising does not affect the wear resistance but instead gives the fabric an even softer touch. Colour differences may occur with natural fabrics.
Riga is a luxurious fabric in natural colours that provides excellent upholstery on our furniture. With consistent use, a slight haze may occur due to the linen in the fabric’s composition. Due to the natural fibres in the Amsterdam fabric, so-called “slubs” can prevent irregularities, these characteristics provide a unique and lively appearance. Our sales network are our agents from different countries. Our agents make sure that Jess products get to dealers in that country.
Pavel is responsible for the sales of Jess’ retail customers in the Netherlands. He visits stores, represents Jess at trade shows, receives customers in the showrooms and ensures orders get to the right dealers.
