Hotel zum Löwen | Duderstadt | Austria

Businessman-turned-art-collector Hans Georg Näder reflects his deep connection to his hometown in every element of Hotel zum Löwen, from the artworks from his private collection that grace the hotel’s walls to the handpicked wine-list. Polaroids of big stars Andy Warhol used as the basis for his strident portraits decorate the walls in the restaurant and fireplace room.

The Qvest | Cologne | Germany

The Qvest is former historic city archive located on a quiet square in the shadow of the Basilica of St. Gereon. he hotel links history and modernity by combining neoGothic architecture with a curated collection of furniture, contemporary art, and photography. Das Stue

Originally built in the 1930’s, Das Stue’s diplomatic legacy is evident in the heritage building’s stately architecture and modernist façade, designed by German architect Johann Emil Schaudt (1871-1957) and inspired by Danish classicism. Das Stue was renovated to invoke a calming ambience, with open spaces and contemporary minimalist design. Patricia Urquiola artistically directed and designed all public spaces and fluidly integrated shared spaces such as the lobby, cocktail bar and restaurants.

25Hours Hotel Bikini | Berlin | Germany

In the heart of Berlin’s City West district, wildlife and city life cohabitate resplendently within the shadows of the 25hours Hotel. Part of the Bikini Berlin redevelopment project, this historic building—an important example of post-war modernism—serves as an urban oasis for visitors and locals alike. Designer Werner Aisslinger and his team created a hotel world playing with the contrasts of nature and culture.

Ion Adventure Hotel | Selfoss | Iceland

Fire and ice. Hot and cold. An abandoned inn turned luxury hotel. The building was acquired in 2011 and renovated with the assistance of Santa Monica-based design studio Minarc. ION Adventure Hotel is where modern design meets Iceland’s incomparable natural landscape. Guests can expect a mellow mix of concrete chic and earthy ambience, combined with the warm accents of locally salvaged driftwood and lava. The hotel has won several important awards for sustainable design.

Vander Urbani | Ljubljana | Slovenia

Vander urbani resort is four old town houses in a terrace nestling under Castle Hill on the banks of the River Ljubljanica. From the outside, they look like the other townhouses in the old city, but they have been intricately re-designed with a contemporary passion. Beneath the old bourgeois house facades lie sixteen rooms whose design epitomises perfect living comfort. The interior design follows a continuous line which runs almost imperceptibly from house to house.

Furnas Boutique Hotel | Azores | Portugal Furnas Boutique Hotel is located in Furnas, São Miguel Island, Azores. The natural heritage of São Miguel is reflected in the materials chosen for the project, such as basalt stones on the exterior walls and interior flooring. Gigantic nature photographs and wallpapers animate the hotel’s public spaces as well as guestrooms. Using a color palette of green, brown, and white designer Nini Andrade Silva has created soothing interiors that contrast with the hotel’s contemporary and vintage furniture pieces.

Farol Design Hotel | Cascais | Portugal

Nestled between the powdered sands of Guincho Beach and the picturesque fishing village of Cascais, this luxurious seaside retreat on the Portuguese Riviera was once the royal hideaway of the Kings and Queens of Europe in the 1950s. The Naka Phuket | Phuket | Thailand

Hidden in an ancient valley on the western edge of Phuket, The Naka Phuket is Duangrit Bunnag’s most daring hotel to date, with 94 glass-built villas cantilevering out from the mountainside. The resort is only accessible via an isolated mountain road. Designed by internationally acclaimed Thai architect Duangrit Bunnag, the simplistic steel framed matchbox form villas, with floor to ceiling wraparound walls of glass, cantilevering out from the mountainside, and with bedrooms hanging between 6ft and 20ft above the ground below guests enjoy a sense of floating mid-air.

Mira Moon | Hong Kong | China

Located in the heart of bustling Causeway Bay, Mira Moon is an awardwinning design boutique hotel reinterpreting Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival mythology through its interiors. Updating this tale to suit a contemporary setting, the characters from the story are represented throughout the spaces and references to traditional Chinese culture are expressed through modern furnishings with antique Chinese fabrics and prints, peony flower wall details, tailored carpets, digitally composed Bisazza tile graphics and a ‘lucky charm’ feature wall in the lobby. Magnificent interiors were created by Marcel Wanders in cooperation with YOO studio.

Nestled into a private hillside on one of Grenada’s most secluded beaches, Laluna is an escape to a private paradise. While Laluna’s 16 thatched-roof cottages are rich in West Indian details, the open-air structures embrace an Asian design theme. Indonesian teak wood furniture is perfectly contrasted by a rainbow of bold colors and warm tones. For Laluna’s stunning cottages, the design team has gone for a West Indian take on “concrete chic” with dappled amber, mauve and russet walls, built-in counters and couches, and swirling floor designs covered by simple straw rugs.

The Beach Samui | Koh Samui | Thailand

Nestled on the southern edge of Koh Samui, overlooking a marine park that’s speckled with humpbacked tropical islands, there’s a place where turquoise waves lap at the soft white shoreline. The 21st-century design subtly pays homage to Thai culture by using sustainable materials and traditional arts, such as the ornately crafted red lacquer doors and the intricately carved wooden screens. Combining a sense of artistic whimsy with cutting-edge design, the Wanderlust in Singapore’s Little India was created with adventurous travelers in mind. : ‘Industrial Glam’ is a juxtaposition of the hotel’s Little India setting and contemporary design. Glad Hotel Yeouido | Seoul | Korea

The hotel’s facade, with its unusual brick pattern, immediately stands out from its neighbors’ modernist glass buildings. Hotel re-designed the interior by simulating the actual movements of their guests, and boldly did away with unnecessary elements from their viewpoint. Thanks to this hotel’s tone is courteous yet casual and engaging.

From the open concept period-inspired lobby with restored vintage Compton fans to the dramatic pool with glass inserts floating above the restaurant, to the selection of period colonial furniture from Singapore in the 1920s-1960s, New Majestic Hotel is a stunning and eclectic mix of heritage chic.

Kimamaya Boutique Hotel | Hokkaido | Japan

Kimamaya, ‘be yourself’ in Japanese, is an exclusive luxury lodge with just a handful of rooms. Nine of them to be precise. It is also one of the most laid back definitions of luxury you’ll ever find. Rooms created by designer Andrew Bell offer charm, comfort and a distinctly personal, cosy experience. Most of all, they capture the essence of the alpine atmosphere of Hokkaido with a cosmopolitan touch thrown in.

The luxury Park Hotel Tokyo is ideally situated in Shiodome, a flourishing new center of business and culture. Each room features color coordinated curtains and bedcovers. Trees and plants placed on the obsidian and teak lobby floor reflect the Japanese cultural tradition of living in harmony with nature. The hotel has dedicated “Artist” rooms for foreign guests who are interested in Japanese aesthetics and arts. The SUMO room for example features works by Hriyoyuki Kimura who visits sumo stables everyday to capture the wrestlers training.

Hotel Da Vinci | Paris | France

Inspired by the great Renaissance artist, Hôtel Da Vinci truly has a great many surprises in store! The journey back to the Renaissance starts in the lift. The glass panel is a window through which you can admire a series of drawings taken from the various studies executed by Leonardo da Vinci. The hotel’s 24 rooms are named after the leading figures of the Quattrocento. These include Botticelli, Raffaello, Michelangelo and Catherine de’ Medici. The invitingly comfortable rooms are decorated in a style that takes in a great many references, such as a highly typical caqueteuse chair, or a dressing room with curved features, reminiscent of the wardrobes of the period. The relaxation area, situated on the lower ground floor, is arranged around a mosaic-lined pool that reproduces the colours used by Leonardo da Vinci to paint the Gioconda.

In close collaboration with Christophe Pillet, ShahÊ Kalaidjian, the hotel’s director, has created a venue that bears the stamp of authenticity. Noble and natural material, specially designed furniture combined with contrasting tones exudes cosmopolitan and Zen-like atmosphere. The rooms and suites are in style of perfect bachelor pads. Floors laid with wide boards of dark wood, covered with deep pile tomato red or mustard tone rugs, grey stone from Cascais on the wall. Executive swivel chairs and swept chrome stools by Driade sit by brushed teak finish desks, which are inset with steel light fittings.

Hotel de Nell | Paris | France

The facade of the 19th-century building was restored to its immaculate former glory, with a white palette that carries on from the exterior through to the rooms and common spaces. The interiors of a great Paris hotel showcase design by acclaimed architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte, who focused on environmental sustainability and local integration. Â Distinct features such as French pavement in the entrance, natural wood panelling in the corridors and rooms, long roaring fireplaces and retro lighting, lend the minimal interiors a coziness and authenticity.

Domaine Des Andéols | SaintSaturnin-lès-Apt | France At Domaine des Andéols, the organic shapes and colors that define the Provençal landscape take on new meaning in juxtaposition to its pure lines, bespoke spaces, and very personal collection of art and furniture. Hotel de Tourrel | SaintRémy-de-Provence | France

New life has been breathed into the historic former residence of the noble family de Tourrel d’Almeran from Saint-Rémy. The outstanding architecture of this private mansion dating back to the 17th century inspired Ralph Huesgen and Margot Staengle to incorporate more than three centuries of life into the design, with 1920s flair and a hint of modernity. Interiors are appointed with handmade furniture, lamps, beds & bed linen, parquet floors and natural stone bathrooms.

Hotel Bel Ami | Paris | France

The hotel’s architecture features two exposed external walls, giving each room a special light according to its direction and floor. Inspired by Hotel Bel Ami’s literary background as a 19th-century printworks, the newly refurnished bedrooms have been conceived as elegant environments with a focus on minimalism. Inside, luxury fabrics and bright colors create an elegant, yet cutting-edge atmosphere. House Hotel Galatasaray | Istanbul | Turkey

Housed in the historic 1890s Zenovitch Apartment, the hotel opened in April 2010. Renovated by Turkish design collaborator - international award-winning Autoban Design firm - the building retains its original shuttered façade, marble staircase and ceramic tiled reception. In stark contrast to the subtle wall decorations, the hotel’s floors are a study in swirling crests and hexagons, which also appear on certain ceilings, handrails and screens. Brass-studded leather sofas in the roof lounge hug a sizzling fireplace carved from solid stone, tucked beneath exposed wooden beams.

Oddfellows On The Park | Cheadle | UK

Brand new hotel set within a beautiful Victorian mansion. Although playfully decorated, comfort is considered at every turn. Beds are at least a 5ft king-size and showers are wonderfully powerful. Although the original features in these Victorian bedrooms take precedent, luxurious bathrooms are distinctly modern. The Galloping Major restaurant is situated in what was once the original owner’s ballroom. Huge windows open the room out to the park, bringing the light in and highlighting amazing original features.

Das Triest | Vienna | Austria

Over 300 years ago DAS TRIEST was a staging post on the horse-drawn mail coach route between Vienna and Trieste. The challenge of DAS TRIEST was to transform the dated hotel “Stadt Triest” into a unique boutique hotel, characterised by stylish contemporary design and subtle luxury. Today it is an outstanding example of how to successfully combine a modern look with a traditional building. The old vaulted stables have become salons, suites and conference rooms equipped with state-of-the-art technology while featuring the distinctive flair of DAS TRIEST.

H15 Boutique Hotel | Warsaw | Poland

These brand new apartments have just been opened & are situated in a XIX century building where the past meets the present. The architect preserved the neoclassical socialist façade while also cleverly drawing one’s attention to the hotel’s black-and-white checkered patio, which not only serves as a lobby but as a venue for important cultural events. Award-winning designer Mariola Tomczak used calm color tones, natural oak floors, and glass walls between the bedroom and the bath areas to brilliantly open up the hotel’s interior space. Original works by Polish photographer and fine artist Rita Zimmerman give each suite its own individual feel, while the building’s historical character is emphasized through the preservation of its high ceilings.

A newly built two-story retreat, Hotel B Design & Spa does a marvelous job of fitting in with the rustic farmhouses and sweet-smelling lavender fields of rural Provence. Inside, designer Christophe Pillet has emphasized swooping modern contours and broad open spaces. Glass panes scatter the light that streams in through black slatted doors, illuminating open spaces, while understated yet ultra-comfortable sofas and armchairs designed by Pillet and French upholstery pioneers Neology provide somewhere to enjoy the simplicity of the design. Everything you see – from the solid wooden tables to the black metal balustrades – has been built with quality in mind.

With its wrought-iron balustrades and column-supported porticoes, only the corresponding house number suggests that the white-stucco Victorian terrace is the hotel Number Sixteen – and not an upscale private residence, situated just steps from London’s major museums and Harrods. The eclectic furnishings – a mix of antique, contemporary and ethnic accents – keep the aesthetic fresh and elegantly eccentric. Pretty detailing such as colorful glass beads on cushions and shell buttons stitched on to curtains give the rooms a feminine quality, while bold prints and trademark flourishes such as oversized headboards mean they don’t feel too dainty.

One more hotel created by a top interior designer Kit Kemp. Her classically British aesthetic pays careful attention to each room, filling it with modern English style, featuring clean neutrals and bold colors.
