October Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults This is a level 2 awareness raising session for voluntary and community groups to include: Outcomes:  the background to legislation  definitions and indicators of abuse  current trends in adult protection in RCT This course is aimed at those with a limited knowledge of safeguarding issues who are looking to set up, or review safeguarding policies and procedures within their organisation. Safeguarding Children and Young People This is a level 2 awareness raising session for voluntary and community groups which will increase the participants’ confidence in identifying and referring safeguarding issues. The course is endorsed by RCT LSCB - ‘Raising Awareness to Referral’. Introduction to Volunteering and Preparing For Volunteers These courses are an introduction to the series of four modules on volunteer management. By the end of the session, participants will:  Understand the nature and scope of volunteering and how it differs from paid work  Recognise how and why organisations involve volunteers in their work  Appreciate the resource implications of involving volunteers  Be able to develop a volunteering policy  Have considered what other policies might be necessary  Understand key legal issues relating to volunteers  Be able to identify volunteer roles and draw up volunteer ‘task descriptions’  Know how to assess and manage risk relating to volunteer roles Date: Time: Venue: Cost:

Why community development is needed, the different types of communities, skills and values of a community worker and the National Occupational Standards for Community Development. In the afternoon we will learn how to complete a community research study using variety of techniques.

Group dynamics; the roles of individuals within a group, where the power lies and how to communicate effectively. We will look at group life cycles and examine how to work inclusively to break down barriers that prevent people getting involved.

Alcohol Brief Intervention Training What is an Alcohol Brief Intervention? A short, evidence-based, structured conversation about alcohol consumption with a client to motivate and support the individual to think about and/or plan a change in their drinking behaviour in order to reduce their consumption. National Principles for Public Engagement and Evaluation Toolkit Training

About the course: Participation Cymru’s Evaluation Toolkit provides you with guidance to evaluate your engagement practice against the National Principles for Public Engagement in Wales. This training takes you through the principles and the toolkit, using simple participatory techniques. It aims to show how you can effectively plan and evaluate engagement work in a straightforward, common-sense, participatory way.

The Wales Volunteering Project Free training and development for Volunteers! The Wales Volunteering Project helps volunteers who need a little extra support. Our aim is to help with personal development and to improve key skills. It doesn’t matter if you are considering volunteering, or if you have been volunteering for years, we are open to all. The following courses are free to volunteers within RCT. Each session last for about 2 ½ hours. Do you have a group of volunteers? Give us a call and we will deliver free courses within your organisation. Time Management An introduction to the skills required for good time management. You will learn how to manage your time when it comes to your role, or daily life. You will work with others to solve problems that are caused by poor time management and develop new tools to help you in both work and life. Interview Techniques An introduction level course to help you develop your interview skills. We will look at interview questions and how to answer them, as well as what to look out for. With a focus on communication, this course is for anyone looking to pick up key interview techniques. Assertiveness An introduction level course on how to be assertive. You will chat about what being assertive means, as well as how people behave and why. If you want to be more assertive, take the first step and book your place today! Self Esteem An introduction level course on confidence and self-esteem. You will look at what self-esteem is and how life can affect it.
