PROVENANCE Private Collection, Auckland Purchased from Plum Blossoms (International) Ltd Hong Kong, 27/4./1992 EXHIBITED Wu Guanzhong - Kaleidoscope, May 16 to 27, 1989 Illustrated on front cover (above) and p. 61 Wu Guanzhong — Kaleidoscope Plum Blossoms (International) Ltd
WU GUANZHONG (Chinese 1919 - 2010) Trees and Snow Mountain, 1988 Ink and colour on paper 86 x 69 Estimate NZ$400,000 - 600,000
International Art Centre is delighted to offer three rare Chinese works in the July catalogue, all from a private collection. One is by China’s most celebrated artists, Wu Guanzhong (1919 - 2010). The works were purchased in 1988 by an Auckland based couple who were stationed in Hong Kong during the 1980s and are now downsizing. With recent auction success of works by Sir Cedric Morris, Arthur Meric Bloomfield Boyd, Francis Bacon, Dorit Black and Maurits Cornelis
Escher, Alexander Calder, Andy Warhol, Elsworth Kelly, David Hockney, Hans Hofmann, George Rickey & others, it is evident that International Art Centre negates the need for New Zealand based vendors to export their foreign works to auction. With our online bidding platform buyers can bid accross the world on these items, this coupled with a growing number of global contacts ensures works are exposed to the correct collectors internationally.
