Tarantino - War on Drugs is Like Slavery
"Iconic film director Quentin Tarantino believes that US drug policy, and the subsequent mass incarceration of African Americans, is comparable to pre-Civil War slavery. In an interview about his latest movie—Django Unchained, which documents the story of a freed slave, played by Jamie Foxx—Tarantino points out that the hierarchies of racial injustice have shifted but not wholly improved. "This whole thing of...this 'War on Drugs,' and the mass incarcerations that have happened pretty much for the last 40 years has just decimated the black male population," says the filmmaker. Medical Cannabis bill
proposed for 201 3 Legislature
CARS O N CI TY - A bill allowing registered medical marijuana users in Nevada to acquire the outlawed drug is one of the 1 44 bills being drawn up for consideration at the 201 3 Legislature.
Assemblyman Tick Segerblom, D-Las Vegas, said Monday he requested the bill, which would be introduced in the state Senate if he is elected to the upper house, because there is no legal way to obtain the drug, which is used to help people with glaucoma and cancer patients who suffer loss of appetite because of chemotherapy.
The medical marijuana law, implemented in 2001 after overwhelming voter support, allows each person with a state card to grow as many as three mature and four immature marijuana plants and have on hand no more than 1 ounce of usable marijuana.

Obama is Letting Innocent Citizens Go to Jail For Breaking a Dumb Law On Monday in Los Angeles, a former marijuana dispensary operator was sentenced to 1 0 years in federal prison for running three facilities in California. Medical marijuana is legal in California, but prosecutable under federal law. Aaron Sandusky is one of the only marijuana dispensary owners that have fought federal charges for distributing marijuana; others have closed up shop after threats of raids and criminal suits. Just four other defendants are currently being prosecuted in states where medical marijuana is illegal. Sandusky, 42, formerly worked in the mortgage industry before opening the G3 Holistics dispensaries in Upland, Colton, and Moreno Valley. San Diego mayor orders end to city war on marijuana dispensaries San Diego Mayor Bob Filner declared an end on Thursday to the city’s legal war on medical pot with a letter to city authorities ordering civil prosecutors to “stop the crackdown on marijuana dispensaries.”
Filner, a Democrat who was sworn in December 1 , said in the letter sent to the police chief, city attorney and the city’s Neighborhood Code Compliance Department that such shops could still be scrutinized for other code violations like any other business.

The nation's largest marijuana policy organization, the Marijuana Policy Project (MPP), slammed former Congressman Patrick Kennedy's plan to force marijuana consumers into treatment and marijuana "education" classes, which his new organization, Smart Approaches to Marijuana (SAM), is scheduled to unveil in Denver on Wednesday.Kennedy's group, Project SAM -- for Smart Approaches to Marijuana -- will lobby for increased treatment for marijuana and drug abuse, he said, reports The Associated Press. "The proposal is on par with forcing every alcohol user into treatment at their own cost or at a cost to the state," said MPP communications director Mason Tvert. "In fact, it would be less logical because the science is clear that marijuana is far less toxic, less addictive, and less likely to be associated with acts of violence."
A federal magistrate on Monday ruled that the Harborside Health Center located in Oakland and San Jose, Calif., can continue to operate, despite a bid by federal prosecutors to shut it down. Harborside is widely considered the world's largest medical cannabis dispensary.
