Dan Jenkins, editor of the Tri-County newsletter, Connections, wins the Silver Scroll and Golden Pen Division 2 awards. The awards are given at the American Association of Dental Editors and Journalists annual meeting and conference.
Distinguished Humanitarian award: Dr. Ronald E. Fritz of Escondido began his dental missionary contributions during his last year in dental school at Loma Linda University. During the six years of practice at the Bella Vista Hospital in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, he began his own personal monthly missions to nearby areas. Because of his creation of a hospital dental clinic, the local Puerto Ricans named him “La Mancha del Platano,” meaning that their culture was indelibly imprinted on his heart. left: Dr. Fritz accepts the award from Dr. Joseph R. Kenneally.
Ottofy Okumura award: Herbert K. Yee of Sacramento Dr. Yee’s contributions to the International College of Dentists are significant. He is largely credited to bridging a gap between Eastern and Western dental leaders. Born in China in 1924, he emigrated to the United States in 1931. Dr. Yee served as USA Section president in 1985 and as ICD Worldwide president in 1995-96. Unable to attend this year, members hope that he can receive his award in person next year in San Francisco. Ottofy and Okumura are the founders of the International College of Dentists.

Message from our regent: The ICD Board would like your opinion on these two items: 1. Should we maintain ADA membership as a requirement for ICD Fellowship? 2. Should the USA Section continue to hold our convocation in conjunction with the ADA annual sessions? If you have strong feelings about these items, please let me know at: henrik2633@gmail.com
Congratulations to our 24 new ICD Fellows
