When you face forward then move forward even one step after feeling tension on the leash, you will almost certainly be pulled like this.

Taken seconds after the first picture, this shows that within just moments you can get to where you can walk barely having to hold onto the leash.
However, there will be lots and lots and lots of repetition to teach the dog that you really have changed !

3/. Start: take the leash and the moment the dog leaves you and puts tension on the leash like here, rock your weight back and turn to face completely away. Facing your dog makes them assume you are going to follow, until they learn to follow your lead.

Remember if you are STILL looking at your dog you are telling them that you will follow them. No Jerking on the leash at ANY TIME this damages your relationship.

Photobook for | The Loose Leash 7 day training programme from Marnie George If your dog is jumping or lunging you need to brace yourself but I have mastered this to the point where I just never get pulled any more, because I stop and brace after the tiniest inkling that the dog is about to pull.
6/. Make a loud UH OH right before you turn away or OWWWWW (if your dog is sensitive to you, you can use Ow and feign pain but if they are not don’t bother just INFORM them why they are stopping with an UH OH)

7/. Be PREPARED to do this for several minutes without making any real head way In terms of getting far. The dog is moving around and getting mental and physical exercise.
