Cannabis Landscape production in Denmark

Cannabis Landscape production in Denmark With the evidence that proves the medical benefits of marijuana, many countries are giving a second thought about legalizing cannabis production in their country. And while half the world is considering this, some countries decided to make marijuana legal. One of these countries is Denmark. The country has started a 4-year pilot program for medicinal cannabis that was established in the 1st January 2018 to give the idea a try. Moreover, Denmark has given the program’s authority to the Danish Medicines Agency. Hence, they are liable to analyze and grant the authorization for the cultivation, manufacture, and distribution of medical marijuana in Denmark. As per this 4-year program, industries can get the license to produce the primary products and the marijuana intermediates in Denmark without any hassle. By June 2018, Denmark also permitted the cultivation of cannabis for medical use. And since December 2018 when the legalization was in process, about 12 permits have been provided to the companies for Marijuana Processing and marijuana production. And these authorizations followed the approval of the four-year trial where marijuana would be used by doctors to prescribe to the patient. Moreover, Denmark has also formed a program for the Cannabis therapeutics' reimbursement via the country's national health care program. With this, the patients would be able to be reimbursed for their marijuana medications just like any other prescriptions. Economy of Denmark & the Unemployment Situation Denmark has a great economy where 80% of the jobs are there in the service sector and 2% in the agricultural sector. Even though the economy seems to be great, the unemployment rate is very low. The rate was calculated at 4.74% from 2007 until 2018. But with the legalization of marijuana production in Denmark and the four-year trial, things have begun to take a good turn both for the employment and the agriculture sector. Talking about the cost of the four-year trial program for Cannabis Processing, Denmark has kept about 3.4 million dollars aside to help in growing the marijuana industry. This is a trial since the government wants to be sure if it would be a success or not. As soon as the success is confirmed when the trial is over, the country would then decide to make it permanent. But with the amount that the government is putting in, it would again affect the economy. Hence, the country has also opened the doors for outside investors to invest in the marijuana production industry. This would

help the economy of the country and also increase the number of jobs. Another reason why the government is working towards attracting investors and increasing the marijuana production in the country is the current high price of medical marijuana. With the price of medical marijuana at 2000 to 6000 kroner for a month’s medication for a patient, it makes it impossible for many to take up the treatment and enjoy the benefits of medical marijuana. But with the inhouse marijuana processing and the outside investors, the marijuana production would increase a lot. This would, in turn, increase the overall cost of medical marijuana would reduce allowing the patients to easy purchase it. Due to the abundant availability of the laborers and professional greenhouse producers, Denmark is the perfect country for large-scale marijuana processing. Furthermore, the legalization has also grabbed the attention of some investors, helping the industry to create more jobs. And since Denmark is the ideal country for greenhouse marijuana production, the industry is growing faster than expected. If this continues, the country would be able to reduce the price of marijuana and even turn their 4-year trial program into a permanent one soon. Just to be clear, most of the production is based in Odense, which is the third-largest city in Denmark. The main reason why Odense is chosen for the plantation of marijuana crops and the marijuana production is that it perfectly supports any greenhouse industry much more as compared to the other areas in the country. Employment Opportunity The Danish market is a very attractive and stable one for many reasons. Moreover, the pharmaceutical industry has always been strong. With the legalization of marijuana, the industry has expanded to create more labor opportunities. Since Odense is the main market and area where the marijuana production would take place, people here would be able to get jobs easily. Not only would it help with the jobs; with marijuana prescribed by doctors, many patients would be treated properly from their diseases. As per the government of Denmark, there would be about 125 employees who would work as blue-collar workers. Moreover, they would also need many other labors for the agricultural tasks. With about 5000+ people unemployed in the city of Odense, this industry would be able to create numerous opportunities for these people. With the trial period on, the marijuana industry is getting a lot of success and many people have become employed. Denmark is waiting for more investors to help things grow.
