This activity will take place within the third month of your placement in your setting. The room leader has asked you to help her redesign the layout of the room. You will need to: • Work out the area of the room so you can purchase some new furniture • Calculate how much money you will have left Once you have completed the task, discuss this with your workplace mentor. 1


Equipment It would be useful to have the following: • A calculator • A pen, pencil and eraser

Task 3

You want to work out how much it will cost to redesign the layout of the room and purchase the furniture. The budget given by the manager is ÂŁ500. Now you know which items you need to buy, work out how many of each you can buy of the required furniture to ensure the room is usable. Create a table like the on the next page to record your expenditure. What is the remaining balance? Show how you worked out your costs using an appropriate method.
