Health and Social Care – E-CPD resource Policies and Procedures

Name Date Introduction This activity will take place whilst on placement in your setting. It is ideal for you to familiarise yourself with the policies and procedures of the setting, to support you in understanding the importance of completing tasks in a certain manner. Your activities will include: • Reviewing the policies/procedures in Health and Social Care to identify the facts and opinions. • Highlight the procedures that you will need training for. Once you have completed the task, discuss these with your workplace mentor. Equipment It would be useful to have the following tools handy: • a dictionary • a pen or pencil, two different coloured highlighting pens and an eraser There is a section in this booklet for any notes you want to make. Learning In this task, you will be covering the areas detailed below. Health and Social Care • Basic understanding of the settings particular policies and procedures. • Basic understanding of legislative requirements. • Training skills that you may need to undertake. Functional skills English • Read and understand different types of text in detail • Identify the main points and how they are presented in a variety of different types of texts • Use language, format and structure suitable for purpose and audience • Write clearly and coherently, including an appropriate level of detail • Ensure written work includes generally accurate punctuation and spelling and meaning is clear in more than one type of text.

Glossary Fact – something that can be proved Opinion – a personal view or belief Key phrases – important words to give clues to the meaning of text Silent letters – letters that you cannot hear when you say a word Homophones – words that sound the same but have different spellings and meanings. Policies and procedures - influence and determine all major decisions and actions, and all activities take place within the boundaries set by them.

You need to read the text to identify the key points and phrases.
