Easy is nice

Keep it simple

Keeping things simple in a world awash with complexity is pretty hard. You want to sell your wares. You know who your audience is likely to be, but how to reach them? You’d love to do a multi-channel comms campaign but times are tough. Budgets are tight. You’re under-resourced, under pressure and under paid. (Aren’t we all?). But, hey, we do understand. Life just ain’t as simple as it used to be. So, we’ve racked our brains to come up with a few easy wins to try and help you out a little. Because being nice is easy. And easy is nice.

Low hanging fruit

First off, sort out that database! People you haven’t done business with for ten years are not customers. Divide your data into three simple groups; active, dormant and dead. Delete the dead. Remember that ‘churn’ rates can be as high as 30%, and higher in difficult times. Data can get cold very quickly. Next, lavish attention on your active customers. Make sure you know all about what they really need. And that they understand everything that your business can offer them. We know this sounds obvious, but we’re all busy. Many people react to a need so being front of mind puts your business in pole position when that need becomes a ‘want now’. And it doesn’t matter how big your brand is, nurturing these relationships is vital.

Smarten up your image

Unless you habit a mud hut and live off the land (with home-made tools) you will be an advocate of one brand or another. Brands that people trust and deliver their promises can charge more, or at least sell more. Simples! (Eek). Brands that resonate through image, message, and behaviour become more memorable. Good branding is a short cut to a sale. Think about your brand. Is it delivering its promise, is it communicating in a way that engages with your audience? Create a check list of core values and test these against customer perception. Are all internal personnel onside with the brand’s messages?

Become more social

This does not involve more trips to the pub. Sorry. Many brands have now developed a social media presence, if not a strategy. But not many are using its full potential. There are lots of ways to improve the power of your social media presence. Just one example, increasing the inbound links to your website will improve your Google ranking and get you more enquiries. Fact! Engaging with your audience through social media channels will help to gather quality feedback to your products and services. But you need to be proactive, you need to lead the discussion. Make use of all the tools and opportunities on offer, such as your Facebook welcome page. It’s free advertising space. Of course, if you have no social media presence at all yet, then you might consider this sooner rather than later.
