Feasibility Studies: DPC Manufacturing

Page 1

Industrial Process Economics Reports About Diphenyl Carbonate (DPC) Diphenyl Carbonate (DPC) is a phenol derivative broadly used in conjunction with bisphenol A in the manufacture of polycarbonates. The Intratec portfolio (www.intratec.us/our-portfolio) includes reports examining specific DPC production processes. Each report presents one-time costs associated with the construction of an industrial plant and the continuing costs associated with the daily operation of such a plant. General

About our Methodology Intratec has distilled the expertise gained from more than a decade supporting companies worldwide to devise consistent methodologies, which ensures the development of holistic, coherent and consistent reports. Intratec's highly experienced engineers start the development of process economics reports with in-depth, comprehensive research on the technology examined, encompassing patents and available technical literature, non-confidential information provided by technology licensors and Intratec's in-house database. This exhaustive research provides a clear and consistent understanding of the process technology studied, including chemical, biological and/or physical transformations occurring in the target process, as well as reactants required and products formation. That knowledge is compiled into a detailed process block flow scheme and a mapping of key process input & output figures (including raw materials consumption). Finally, in the assessment of the economic figures of the process technology under analysis, Intratec’s team relies on an extensive inhouse database and robust cost models. Our cost models were founded on a number of established cost-estimating methods, based on mathematical and statistical processing of an extensive volume of actual cost data of well-known industrial processes. Reports Focused on DPC Production Economics ECONOMICS OF DPC PRODUCTION FROM PHENOL AND PHOSGENE (DPC E11A) This report presents the economics of Diphenyl Carbonate (DPC) production from phosgene and phenol using a typical interfacial process. The economic assessment assumes a plant located in the USA. ECONOMICS OF DPC PRODUCTION PROCESS (DPC E21A) This study reviews the costs associated with Diphenyl Carbonate (DPC) production from ethylene oxide and phenol in the USA. The process examined is similar to Asahi Kasei process, which involves the generation of dimethyl carbonate (DMC) intermediate. ECONOMICS OF DPC PRODUCTION FROM PHENOL AND METHANOL (DPC E31A) This report presents a techno-economic study about Diphenyl Carbonate (DPC) production from phenol in the USA. The process under analysis is similar to Ube process, which involves: production of dimethyl oxalate (DMO) intermediate from methanol; DMO reaction with phenol to produce diphenyl oxalate (DPO); and decarbonylation of DPO to DPC. ECONOMICS OF DPC PRODUCTION FROM PHENOL AND METHANOL (DPC E41A) It presents the economics of Diphenyl Carbonate (DPC) production from phenol and methanol using a process similar to the one proposed by SABIC. In this process, methanol undergoes an oxidative carbonylation to form dimethyl carbonate (DMC), which reacts with phenol to produce DPC. The economic analysis presented is based on the construction of an industrial plant in the USA. ECONOMICS OF DPC PRODUCTION FROM PHENOL (DPC E51A) This feasibility study reviews Diphenyl Carbonate (DPC) production from phenol. Different from the report “DPC E41A”, the process under analysis is an oxidative carbonylation process, which involves the direct reaction of phenol with carbon monoxide to form DPC.
