Economics of Biodiesel Production Processes

Page 1

Industrial Process Reports About Biodiesel Biodiesel is composed of fatty acid methyl esters (FAME) usually obtained from the transesterification of oils or fats. It is a renewable biofuel commonly used in blends with conventional petroleum-based diesel. The Intratec portfolio (www.intratec.us/our-portfolio) includes reports examining specific Biodiesel

About our Methodology Intratec has distilled the expertise gained from more than a decade supporting companies worldwide to devise consistent methodologies, which ensures the development of holistic, coherent and consistent reports. Intratec's highly experienced engineers start the development of industrial process reports with in-depth, comprehensive research on the technology examined, encompassing patents and available technical literature, non-confidential information provided by technology licensors and Intratec's in-house database. This exhaustive research provides a clear and consistent understanding of the process technology studied, including chemical, biological and/or physical transformations occurring in the target process, as well as reactants required and products formation. That knowledge is compiled into a detailed process block flow scheme and a mapping of key process input & output figures (including raw materials consumption). Finally, in the assessment of the economic figures of the process technology under analysis, Intratec’s team relies on an extensive inhouse database and robust cost models. Our cost models were founded on a number of established cost-estimating methods, based on mathematical and statistical processing of an extensive volume of actual cost data of well-known industrial processes. Reports Focused on Biodiesel Production Economics ECONOMICS OF BIODIESEL PRODUCTION FROM SOYBEAN OIL (BIODIESEL E11A) This report presents the economics of Biodiesel production from soybean oil in the USA using a typical alkaline catalysis process. In this process, crude glycerol is generated as by-product. ECONOMICS OF BIODIESEL PRODUCTION IN BRAZIL (BIODIESEL E11F) The process examined in this report is the same presented in the report “Biodiesel E11A” with the exception that the plant is located in Brazil. ECONOMICS OF BIODIESEL PRODUCTION FROM SOYBEAN OIL (BIODIESEL E12A) Techno-economic study of Biodiesel production from soybean oil in the USA. Different from the report “Biodiesel E11A”, in this report, Biodiesel is produced via a process similar to Connemann process. Pharmaceutical grade glycerol by-product is generated. ECONOMICS OF BIODIESEL PRODUCTION FROM SOYBEAN OIL (BIODIESEL E13A) Feasibility analysis of Biodiesel production from soybean oil also considering a plant located in the United States. This process is a heterogeneous catalysis process similar to Axens Esterfip-H process. Crude glycerol is generated as by-product. ECONOMICS OF BIODIESEL PRODUCTION FROM SOYBEAN OIL (BIODIESEL E14A) The process analyzed in this report is the same examined in the report “Biodiesel E11A” with the exception that pharmaceutical grade glycerol is generated as by-product. ECONOMICS OF BIODIESEL PRODUCTION IN BRAZIL (BIODIESEL E14F) Feasibility study of Biodiesel production from soybean oil in Brazil using a typical alkaline catalysis process generating pharmaceutical grade glycerol as by-product.

Reports Focused on Biodiesel Production Economics ECONOMICS OF BIODIESEL PRODUCTION FROM SOYBEAN OIL (BIODIESEL E15A) This report presents an economic analysis for the same process studied in the report “Biodiesel E13A” with the difference that the byproduct generated is pharmaceutical grade glycerol. ECONOMICS OF BIODIESEL PRODUCTION FROM SOYBEAN OIL (BIODIESEL E16A) Techno-economic analysis of Biodiesel production from soybean oil in the United States using a supercritical fluid technology. ECONOMICS OF BIODIESEL PRODUCTION FROM SOYBEAN OIL (BIODIESEL E17A) Techno-economic analysis of Biodiesel production from soybean oil in the United States using a catalytic distillation process. ECONOMICS OF BIODIESEL PRODUCTION FROM ALGAE (BIODIESEL E21A) Economics of Biodiesel production from carbon dioxide in the USA using a three-step process: an algae cultivation step similar to Simgae; an extraction step similar to OriginOil Single Step Extraction; and a typical transesterification step. Crude glycerol is generated as by-product.
