Dear Valued Customers, Thank you for making 2017 an absolute record year! Western Canada is now challenging Eastern Canada for supremacy of soybean production. Acreage growth over the past decade has been astounding. With the focus on the development of varieties with early maturity, a whole new crop has been adopted in Western Canada. And it appears that trend will continue. New and exciting for NorthStar Genetics for 2018 is the introduction of our very first corn hybrid: NS 72-521. It is a “double early line with a maturity rating of 72 days. (Please refer to page 16 of this product guide for more details). Whether corn acreage growth will occur as quickly as soybeans did in Western Canada remains to be seen. But, there is now a concerted effort to develop early maturing hybrids. So, these are just two examples of how agriculture continues to change and offer growers new opportunities. NorthStar Genetics is excited to participate in this dynamic market and bring new opportunities to growers in Western Canada. Again, thank you for your business in 2017, and we look forward to serving you again in 2018. Sincerely,
Ray Wytinck General Manager NorthStar Genetics

#IGROW SOYBEANS What are growers saying about NorthStar Genetics soybeans? “NorthStar Genetics soybeans are a good fit for our farm because they’re the earliest maturing varieties. They also provide the best service through their agronomic advice and their soybeans publications. It’s been a really easy learning curve with them, getting ourselves introduced to growing soybeans. I think they have the best tool kit of varieties that are suited for Western Canada. The company you would think of when you think of early maturing, Western Canadian soybeans, is NorthStar Genetics.” Mike Fedoruk - Kamsack, SK

Demonstration Plots At NorthStar Genetics, we pride ourselves on being very aggressive in bringing new soybean varieties to market in Western Canada. Our portfolio of soybean genetics offers growers more depth and breadth than any other out there. Part of the process of bringing new varieties to market is testing lines under a wide range of conditions. Soybeans are planted in a host of different geographies and a myriad of soil types and conditions. Only the top performing lines are commercialized. All NorthStar Genetics branded lines are demonstrated to our dealers and growers through our demonstration plot program and field scale trials. The data achieved from both of these test programs will be recorded and posted on our website. In total we will have 5 demonstration sites across Manitoba and Saskatchewan in 2017 and many, many more field scale trials. Specifically at our demonstration sites all of our commercial varieties are planted in small-scale plots – often replicated – by our own staff with our own equipment. Additionally, we plant a host of “competitor” varieties to see how we stack up to the competition. To further help growers determine how a variety will perform under their local conditions, NorthStar Genetics will provide several units of seed to be planted in side-by-side strip plots against other soybean varieties. This is known as our field-scale trial program, because these strips are planted and harvested with field-scale equipment. Yield comparisons are often made by the use of a combine yield monitor. Growers and dealers are welcome to tour our demonstration sites at anytime throughout the growing season. Additionally, all yield data and field notes taken throughout the growing season will be posted on our website.
