Framing Top: My friend, Nina Bernat ‘18, on a swing in Willow Creek Park near both of our houses. This photo took multiple tries to find the perfect angle. By the end, Nina was complaining of sore legs. Left: My four-year old cat peaks through the leaves of our giant fern. The fern was bought by my parents in 1990. Yup, it’s 25 years old.

APERTURE Left: You might look at this photo thinking was the acorn supposed to be the subject of the photograph? Okay, I admit it was, but who says wood crumbs can’t be beautiful too? Top Left: The rough texture of the river birch contrasts very nicely with the soft blurriness of the background. Top Right: The keys of a tuba laying on the floor of the band room. FEBRUARY 2015 7

TTER SPEED Left: My cat jumps up to catch a dangling ribbon. Top: Fenna Semken ‘18, does a stag jump in the air. She’s been dong Irish dance since she was seven. FEBRUARY 2015 9
LINES Bottom: At the park, I saw a father carrying his daughter on his shoulders walking down the path, and I couldn’t help but take a photo of the cute pair. Right: The framing on the windows of the stairwell provide nice lines.

RSPECTIVE Left: A closeup view of the branch stumps in West High’s courtyard reveals a unique pattern. Top Left: The branches of this giagantic tree fill the entire frame, but might not give justice to its true enormity. Top Right: A troop of mushrooms covers a dead tree in the park. FEBRUARY 2015 13

PORTRAITURE Top: Fenna Semken ‘18, looks out the window overlooking our school’s snowcovered courtyard. Left: My cat, curious as ever, sniffs at the camera while I take a photo of her.

LIGHT Left: Using a very slow shutterspeed, I caught the movement of my cat’s laser toy in the dark. Top Left: As I was playing my cello, I noticed the shadows my music stand and the window were making. I quickly set down my cello before my cat ran away. Top Right: The reflection of a tree in a puddle of melting snow in the park.

FREE FORM My parents love to garden, so naturally our house is filled with plants. These cacti are two of my favorite with the stunning color and soft bristles.

FREE FORM Top: In the light, the little hairs on this plant can be seen very clearly. Right: An amaryllis rests on the windowsill of our living room. Every year, after the amaryllises are done blooming and have become dormant, my father digs all of them out of the soil and stores them away. Currently, in our basement, there’s a huge box of amaryllis bulbs waiting for the next season.
