DIRECTIONS FOR PAGES 4-21: 1. Choose any of the DPS templates saved in your assigned folder. Once you choose a template, copy and paste it onto the appropriate page. You might use “Template A” on pages 4-5 and “Template B” on pages 6-9. Use whichever template showcases your photos best. You do NOT need to use the same templates for each DPS. 2. Make sure to Ungroup your template before you start plugging in your new information. 3. Make sure your pages and folios match your table of contents from page 3: Pages 4-5: Framing Pages 6-9: Shutter speed, aperture, ISO Pages 10-11: Portraiture Pages 12-13: Lines Pages 14-15: Light Pages 16-17: Perspective Pages 18-21: Free form *You can make small tweaks to the template, but be sure to keep the look consistent, and be sure to talk to me about this. * If you choose, you may add extra pages to your portfolio to include extra credit photographs. To do this, go to LAYOUT - PAGES - ADD PAGE. If you do this, be sure to add in 2-page increments.

FRAMING Above: My friend Tyler and I walked all the way down the art hallway, only to find nothing interesting. As we turned around, I considered the stained glass arch and took this photo. Tyler then proceeded to copy me. Just sayin’. Right: This is a picture of my cat, Jasmine, sitting on the kitchen table, watching my mom make dinner. She kept meowing at my mom and my mom meowed back. They held this “conversation” for about five minutes.

Top Left: I had Tyler Thomasson ‘18 walk all the way down the stairs, only to have him run right back up again. He’s probably smiling because I said something super hilarious. Or not. You never know. Top Right: This is Mixed Company, a varsity show choir from Prospect High School. I took this while in the audience at the Muscatine show choir competition. They were great! Bottom Left: This is West High’s Varsity show choir, Good Time Company, which is comprised of mainly juniors and seniors. I chose it because of the intense expressions on everyone’s faces.

SHUTTER SPEED FEBRUARY 2016 7

Top Right: We let my tortoise, Tommy, roam around the kitchen for a bit. My cat, Jasmine, was very perplexed. I think she wanted to play with Tommy, but Tommy evidentally did not feel the same way. Bottom Right: This is the first picture taken on my new Iphone! My cat, Cocoa (surprise, another cat picture!) was bothering me while I was doing my homework. Naturally, I dropped everything to take a picture. Top Left: Our first competition at Muscatine was extremely hectic. I captured this close up picture of the Showtime costumes and managed to get the blur of all the hullabaloo in the background.

APERTURE FEBRUARY 2016 9

2 FEBRUARY 2014

PORTRAITURE Left: This is what I call Tyler Thomasson’s ‘18“senior picture”, which is entirely inaccurate, since we are both sophomores. The intense expression on his face and the prominence of his cheekbones intrigued me. I chose to put the photo in black and white to create a mysterious effect.

Top: Molly Erickson ‘18, Elaina Irving ‘18, and Lydia Youngquist ‘18 laugh over ridiculous Photobooth photos taken on MY IPad. Their ongoing giggling made it a perfect photo oppurtunity. In order to achieve this photo, I sat underneath a show choir rack across from them so I could get the photo at their level. FEBRUARY 2016 11

LINES

Above: Tyler Thomasson ‘18 opens his locker while we are out working on our photos for this very project! The lockers serve as leading lines, stretching all the way to Tyler and seemingly ending after reaching him. Right: Taken from the inside of West High looking out, I think the lines in this photo mimic prison bars. Does this mean school is a prison? I mean, I’m not implying anything, but...

LIGHTS

Above: I took advantage of the bright sunlight reflecting off snow and used it to capture this picture. The sunlight shining through the stained glass in the art hallway creates an interesting and very ethreal effect. Right: My mom’s favorite color is orange, and thus, everything in our house is orange - even our candles. I chose this photo because of the interesting shaped shadows cast on the wall.

PERSPECTIVE Above: Yet another photo taken at a show choir competition! This particular competition was in Muscatine. I stood on one of the costume racks and stretched my arms in order to get a somewhat birds eye view. I think that this photo captures the hecticness of competitions from a unique perspective. Left: This picture really caught my EYE. I chose a close-up to show little details, such as the scar to the right of my eye which I got from running into a door when I was eight years old. FREEFORM

Left: Dancers from Davenport Central High School show choir, Central Singers Inc., strike a sassy pose. While sitting in the audience, I was struck by two things: 1. How good their facial expressions were, and 2. how much I liked their dresses. Above: Another photo of Mixed Company from Prospect High School! I really appreciate the uniformity in their positions, and the expressions on their faces. FEBRUARY 2016 19

FREEFORM Above: Piper Wenzel ‘16 and Grace Huber ‘16 pose for the audience just before beginning their first song, “Slow Fade/ Guilty All the Same”. Their show choir, Good Time Company , placed third in the varsity division.

Right: This is another photo of Central Singers, Inc, the varsity show choir from Davenport Central High School. I chose this photo because of the power stance that the soloist has going on, and because of the stark difference between his facial expression and the facial expressions of those behind him. 20 FEBRUARY 2016
