fRAMING 4 FEBRUARY 2015

Top Left: Walking down the steps of the West High School entrance, I sat down on one of the bottom steps. When I looked over, I found the railing framing the west high sign.

Bottom Right: My friend, Leslie McAndrew ‘16, is sitting on the floor, while in Government class. She’s very focused on studying for the big exam. I decided I wanted a candid picture and thought the bars of the desk framed her perfectly.

lINES

Top Left: One of my favorite places to hang out would be the sun room in my house. Ever since I was little I would come in here to listen to music, read books and just relax. There are a total of 8 windows lined up that curve to create a semi-circle. I love how the light just seeps through blinds, creating, in my opinion, a mysterious setting. Right: I couldn’t name how many times I’ve walked up and down these steps to get to class. I knew stairs would be a perfect example to portray lines. I moved around to get a good angle and good lighting. 6 FEBRUARY 2015

sHUTTER sPEED/iso Top Right: Kendra Law ‘16, had her hair lightly gelled and a very colorful floral pattern on her sweater. I snapped this shot when I told her to jog down the hall during passing time. I used a low shutter speed. I liked the stillness of everyone in the picture because it focuses more on the blur of Law’s action. Top Left: Leena Ibrahim ‘12 was flipping her head all day after she braided her hair. I was playing with the shutter speed (high) and took a picture. I loved the stillness of her hair in midair. Bottom Left: The past snowstorm left us with lots of snow! The snow on the trees makes 7th avenue absolutely beautiful. I used a high ISO. I love the contrast between the bright snow and dark branches.

aPETURE/ISO

Top Right: I was trying to find something to take a picture of and I decided to go small. I used a low aperture and high ISO. I liked the simplicity of having a small pebble in focus. Bottom Left: I took this shot randomly. I was hoping to get a good angle and using a low aperture, I noticed the fine detail in the rocks. I love the effect of a focus surrounded by a blur. Bottom Right: Not only did the past snowstorm leave us snow, but ice as well! I found a single icicle over the door of my house and using a low aperture, I snapped a shot!

Perspective

12 FEBRUARY 2015

Top Right: I love the details you can see on the trunk of the tree. Getting a worm’s eye view of a tree is really a totally different perspective. Bottom Left: People always see what the camera produces. So I decided to switch it up and show the camera in action. In this photo, Nina Elkadi ‘18 and I took pictures of each other taking pictures of each other.

Portraiture 14 FEBRUARY 2015

Top Left: I knew I wanted a light/dark picture to bring out emotion from the audience and I think I accomplished it with this shot of Elkadi. Bottom Right: Nada Ibrahim ‘16 knew I needed pictures of people and stated “I can be your model!” So this is a dash of what Ibrahim has learned from America’s Next Top Model.

Light

16 FEBRUARY 2015

Top Right: I asked Elkadi to sit on the railing by the window and look outside to make a dramatic shot. The lighting is so bright, yet there is just enough contrast from the lines. I was very surprised this pic turned out how it did. Bottom Left: I went outside to the courtyard and snapped a pic of the trees. I absolutely love how the sun managed to peek through those thick branches.

FEBRUARY 2015 17

Free Form Top Left: I was in the band room and went up to the piano to take a pic. I decided to angle my camera so that I could get the reflection of the keys. Right: I thought the colors of the drums were very bright, but I also liked the worn-out look it had. I didn’t want a normal picture of drums, but I still wanted majority of the set, so I took a vertical shot. 18 FEBRUARY 2015

Free Form 20 FEBRUARY 2015

Top Left: I saw the chimes and knew I had to get a picture. To make the shot even more interesting, I had a bystander stand at the perfect angle to get them in the blurry background. Bottom Right: Wingel Xue ‘18 was playing the trumpet in the band room. I was trying to get a normal shot, but the lighting would give me a shadow, so I decided to take advantage and I took a shot of her silhouette.
