4 FEBRUARY 2014

Framing LEFT: This picture was taken through a hole in a wall outside of West High. It was freezing cold when I took this, and I had to lay on the cement to get the right angle. TOP: My cat, Fritzie, standing in front of my window. I wasn’t paying attention to her, so she deicded to go on an adventure. I got this picture seconds before she fell off the windowsill.

LEFT: Using a shutter speed app on my phone, I was able to get a picture of Cameron Cook making an infinity sign with my glowstick. I got the glowstick at a Phesants Forever banquet, and I carry my glowstick with me in my purse. I’m not really sure why I do, but it came in handy that day. TOP LEFT: Fritzie sleeping in my lap right before bed. I wanted to get a picture of her before I had to move her to make room for my legs. TOP RIGHT: Cameron jumping off of a bench at West High. She said she jumped like that because she didn’t know what else to do.

8 FEBRUARY 2014

Aperture LEFT: some melted snow coming out of the gutter into a pile of leaves left over from fall on an unusually warm day in winter. I was using taking pictures as a way to avoid shoveling snow. TOP: My sister Lucy’s ring that my mom gave to her. My mom bought it in St. Martin when she went there with my aunt for her birthday, and my sister has surprisingly not lost it yet.

FEBRUARY 2014 9

LEFT: My sister Lucy playing piano, after I requested that she change into something nicer than sweatpants for a picture. She did reluctantly, but then refused to actually play the piano. ABOVE: Cameron posing on stairs. This was a hard photo to get, as Cameron doesn’t enjoy being the subject of any picture, but I somehow managed it. I had to bargain with her a little bit first, though. RIGHT: McCartney, my 13-year-old Lhasa Apso, sunbathing and giving her signature suspicious glare to the camera. I’m pretty sure that she was trying to tell me to leave her alone and let her nap, but you can never really tell with her.

Portraiture FEBRUARY 2014 11

LEFT: A picture looking down stairs from the third floor of West High. I didn’t initally want to take the picture so I started going downstairs, but I then changed my mind and sprinted back up. TOP LEFT: Another picture of the stairs at West High. I had to sit on the ground, and being the middle of winter, was covered in salt and sand from outside. TOP RIGHT: Some lockers, also at West, that features my locker opened against other closed ones. I was going to open my locker door all the way, but I decided against it because of how messy and unorgainzed it is.

Lines FEBRUARY 2014 13

LEFT: One of my bedposts with a dramatic lighting coming in from the window. I thought that it was cool because it kind of looked like a chess piece with the shape, and the black and white. TOP LEFT: At certain times in the afternoon, the windows at West High have circles on them that I’ve always found interesting. I think they look like crop circles that were put there by aliens, but they were probably just put there by the installers. TOP RIGHT: A shot of my fireplace after I got home from quartet practice one night. My dad had come big circular pieces of wood that he got from somewhere, and the way it was in the fire looked cool.

LIght FEBRUARY 2014 15

LEFT: A view from a third floor window at West, the snow was beginning to melt, and it was starting to get warm again. Of course, we were eventually hit by a polar vortex, but it was nice while it lasted. TOP LEFT: A picture looking down my viola while I play. I needed to have my sister hold my bow for me, which is why it’s not where it should be. TOP RIGHT: Looking down a ping-pong table while my sister gets ready to serve. She and her friend were enjoying the opportunity to hit balls at me with my permission.

Free form LEFT: A handle on a cabinet in a hallway at West. I thought it looked too pretty to be where it was, so I took a picture of it. It doesn’t really fit in with the rest of the decor at West. TOP: A panel of light switches at West. I really liked how they were black and white instead of all just one color. Whoever put them like that must be a creative person.

FEBRUARY 2014 19

LEFT: A lock on an electrical panel at West High. I liked the little GE stamp on it, because it looks curly and pretty. It’s a rather small lock, and I almost didn’t notice it, but I’m glad I did. TOP LEFT: This picture is just some leaves that I thought looked both disorganized and cohesive at the same time. They all look different, but they’ve got similar colors that make them work together. TOP RIGHT: This is a pillar at West, and I thought the blue paint on it looked interesting. I wish I knew how it got there and why it was there.
