framing Both of these photos were taken at our very own West High School. The first photo was taken in a hallway and is of Claire Keller. I took this photo because when I saw the way the light was shining through the doorway, I felt that it was the perfect space to take a framing shot. The second photo was taken by the cardio room and is of a mop sink. I took this photo because when I saw the simplicity of the sink, and how it was framing the tools, I knew that it would be the perfect framing shot._

The picture on the top left is an example of aperture, as well as the photo on the bottom left. The top photo is a picture of my hand, saying why I dance for Dance Marathon. The photo on the bottom is a close-up of books in the library with students studying in the background. The photo on the right is a picture from West High’s Mini Dance Marathon when everyone was waving glow sticks during Power Hour. I took this photo because I love the way the glow sticks are blurred because they are moving faster than the shutter speed is set on the camera.

The picture on the top left is a photo of Claire Murray throwing snow outside of West High. I took this photo because I thought that how the camera captured the snow just as it was in the air was the perfect example of shutter speed. The bottom photo on the left is a photo of myself, looking down from my waist. I took this photo because I really liked the way the bottom of my top was the only thing that was in focus in the photo. The third picture is a photo of West High’s Goodtime Company performing at their last competition. I took this photo because the way that light was shining in the dark place was the perfect example of ISO.

portraiture The first photo in my portraiture section is a picture of Breyton McDole’s eye. I took this photo because his eyes are a beautiful shade of blue and I knew that the blue color would look stunning if it contrasted with the black and white of the rest of the picture. The second picture is a photo of McKenna Harris in the courtyard here at West High. I took this photo because I thought that the way the trees framed her gave the photo a very dramatic affect and I just really enjoy the picture overall.

Lines Both of my “Lines” photos were taken in Notre Dame, Indiana. The first picture was taken at the church on Notre Dame’s campus and I took this photo becuase I loved the way that the light was shining through the stained glass window and illuminating the lines of the church’s ceiling. The second photo was taken at a Notre Dame football (night)game right as it was about to start snowing. The photo was close to the end of the game and I took the photo because I loved the way the crowd and the football field created a line formation.

light The first photo in my “Light” section of this portfolio was taken St. Mark’s square in Venice, Italy. This photo was taken of a building at about two o’clock in the afternoon, when the sun was shining on the building to create perfect shadows. The second photo was taken after a Notre Dame game in Notre Dame, Indiana. It was nighttime and I really liked the way that the spotlight was illuminating Touchdown Jesus, while everything else was blacked out.

Perspective Both of my perspective shots were taken outside of West High, both on cold winter days. My first shot was taken on a clear day of a tree in the courtyard. My second photo was taken of a pine tree by the front enterence to the highschool. I took these photos because I thought that they were both simply beautiful and the perspective of the shot is unusual but alluring.

free form For my free form, I decided to use something that has always fascinated me as my subject: the sun. The first picture is a photo that I took while on a vacation in Florence, Italy. It was a beautiful night and the sun had set, leaving a beautiful glow over the city, so I just had to snap a picture. The second photo was taken atop the Hotel Vetro in downtown Iowa City. This photo was taken after a rain storm, right as the clouds began to clear up to make room for a beautiful sunset. 18 FEBRUARY 2014

free form The first photo on this page was taken on the way to school out of a car window. It was a cold morning and the sun was at just the right point in the sky so that it made a shadow of this tree perfectly, so of course I just had to snap a photo. The second photo on this page was taken in the Cayman islands over Winter Break. It had been a stormy night but the sun came out just as it was about to set and created perfect lighting for this panorama shot.
