framing Left: The silhouette of a Herky is shown through a window pane in the director’s office at the Siemen Center. Although the tiles obscure the statue, light can still be seen reflecting off of it. Above: A series of flags line the wall through a window of the Siemen Center over a study room below.

Left: A slow shutter speed captures the jogging of numerous students in a P.E. class at West High School. I got a few strange looks from the students of that class. Above left: The West High JV Basketball Team scores a point against Des Moines Roosevelt, and goes on to win the game. Above right: A goose flying south in the sky is captured in flight over Hunter’s Run Park, although it might also have been going east. I’m not very good with directions.

aperture and ISO Far left: Branches and tall, dead grass grows by a frozen pond at Hunter’s Run Park. It started to snow while I took that photo. Left: A red plant grows on a branch. The high aperture added noise to the image, making it slightly more fuzzy. Above left: Footsteps along some grass sharply contrast the freshly fallen snow. I left shortly after taking this photo. It was really cold. Brr. Above: A few brittle seeds hang off of a freezing branch. It was somewhat difficult getting the camera to focus on the leaves instead of branches in the background.

Left: Katherine Armstrong ‘18 warms up on the clarinet before pep band. Above left: Junhee Lee ‘18 plays a concert B flat scale on the trumpet, one of two instruments he plays. Lee hopes to make it to All-State again next year on the trumpet. Above right: Nina Elkadi ‘18 looks out the window of the band room, staring at some pine trees and melting snow outside.

lines Left: Switches and wires line the light panel in the auditorium of West High School. Right: Piping, walls, and floors create sharp, contrasting lines at the Siemen Center where Jun-Hee, Shawn and I took cover from the rain while shooting photos downtown.

light Below: The dull white lights of the North Band Room reflect brightly off of Lauren Ernst ‘18’s flute. Right: The sun shines through a series of windows, reflecting the colors of the sun and sky on the second floor of West High School.

Left: Nina Elkadi ‘18 steps onto the rock she sits on at lunch in the summer in the courtyard outside West High School. Right: The West High Auditorium, as seen from behind the podium. The bright lights above shine on the stage, making it difficult to see, and, more importantly, take photos there.

Left below: A few trees line a path at Willow Creek Park. The melting snow below reveals the pavement and grass. Left above: Snow and dead plants surround a small, partially frozen creek. A tiny playground rests in the distant background. Right: Snow lays on the branches of a bush outside of West High School.

freeform Left: Snowy footprints remain on a concrete path at Willow Creek Park. Right: A shot of peeling bark of a birch tree. It took a really long time trying to get the camera to focus correctly on the correct part of the branch!
