Shaking Bog is a new two day nature writing festival which will take place in Glencree, Co Wicklow on the 22nd and 23rd of June this year. It plans to present a joyous and immersive festival of excellent nature writing that promotes enthusiasm and engagement for the art form. This will be achieved through presenting the best of international writing and a programme of indoor and outdoor family-friendly events. The festival will feature literary readings, lectures, discussions and performances as well as community and children’s events aimed at a broad general audience from Wicklow county and beyond. The Shaking Bog Festival, is ideally situated in County Wicklow and more specifically the Glencree Valley. It will be an international festival, celebrating the finest writing about nature from across the world and ambitiously reaching outwards to those beyond county and national borders.

The event is organised by the Irish Veteran Cyclists Association.

Route Description Starting at Bray Emmets GAA Club the route takes the riders to Enniskerry, Old Long Hill, Roundwood, Laragh, the Wicklow Gap, Hollywood, Baltinglass, Aghavannagh, Slieve Maan,Glenmalure, Drumgoff, Rathdrum, south through Ballinaclash before turning north for Glenealy and Ashford when the route takes the riders through Newcastle, Kilcoole, Greystones, up the short climb at Windgates before cutting west to Enniskerry and on to the finish at Bray Emmets .

Established in 1982, the Wicklow 200 is Ireland’s premier cycling sportive. The 38th edition will take place on Sunday the 9th of June starting in Bray, Co Wicklow. The Wicklow 200 – and its partner event the Wicklow 100 Challenge, take in many of the most iconic climbs in Ireland’s ‘Garden County’ in an event that is among the

most arduous and most revered annual cycling events on the world calendar. The ride takes place every June and attracts cyclists from many

At the end of the day you will be rewarded with a medal, food, and tea/coffee when you can reflect on a great day on the bike with other finishers of Ireland’s toughest one-day bike ride.

It’s advisable to have a clear idea before you start. If you are definitely doing the 200km route or you are not sure which one you will do, please choose to start at 7am. If you are sure you are going to do the 100km event please start at 8am.

Wicklow Golf Club Wicklow Golf Club has a vibrant new energy with the arrival of Louise D’Arcy as PGA Head Professional. Thus far Louise has coached countless junior golfers, both members and non-members, through fun and engaging after-school lessons and golf camps. Louise also ran the first of its kind in Ireland taster golf classes for women, #WeLoveGolf, a PGA initiative to encourage women to try golf.

Black Castle, Wicklow Town This castle ruin stands on a rocky promontory over the sea, at the eastern side of the town. Following the arrival of the Norman’s in 1169 Earl Strongbow was granted the lands along the East Coast. He in turn granted those lands to Baron Maurice Fitzgerald on condition that he build castles for protection. The Black Castle was constantly under attack from local Chieftains, notably those of the O’Byrne and O’Toole clans and in 1301 they succeeded in totally destroying the castle. You can easily walk to the Black Castle from Wicklow Town Main Street by turning onto the South Quay and walking a short distance past Hopkin’s Hardware and up the hill, you will clearly see the ruins just beyond the large cannons, which are on the grassy area.

Brittas Bay South Beach is the most popular beach in Wicklow. It has a 5 km stretch of beautiful white sand dunes and clean beaches and has won and maintained the Blue Flag for many years now. It is ideal for bathing, sailing & walking. Brittas has a 3.2km stretch of powedery sand & sand dune system which is a designated area of significant interest as they are home to many interesting wildlife species & plants. Ahead of the highly-anticipated Group Therapy Tour launch, Hootie & the Blowfish announced seven dates throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland this October. The announcement follows a wave of excitement surrounding news of the band’s first full tour in over a decade with forthcoming music under a new record deal with Universal Music Group Nashville.
