Key Outcomes

• India is very keen to engage with New Zealand on a strategic level and not only trade. They would like to incorporate culture, arts, sports, defense and other dimensions as well.

• India is working on prioritising the sectors in which there can be collaborations and create a win win situation, where manufacturing can be promoted in India.

• Skill development & education is a high focus area. They are looking at more collaborations to open excellence centers in India.

• Invest India has opened a single window clearance for kiwi investors, wanting to invest in India. This will be a major achievement for the delegation.

• The government of India is keen to engage on a regular basis. They are keen to support 2 delegations every year, one outgoing and one incoming.

• INZBC strengthened its network with the major Indian chambers, including FICCI, CII and PHD Chamber of Commerce.

• Govt of India is keen on promoting sector based dialogues and win the low hanging fruits first.

• Some of the sectors identified for growth are: Primary produce & fruits, Horticulture, Food processing, Red meat industry, Logging, IT services, Fintech, Higher Education, Skill development, Tourism; Agritech R&D in this sector; Pharma R&D in this sector, Drone technology, Rocket technology.

India Delegation briefing: Internal briefing with all the delegates at the hotel. 18 Sep 2022, 5 6 PM, Oko, Hotel Lalit, New Delhi The New Zealand High Commissioner, H.E. David Pine came to the hotel to discuss about the delegation visit with the incoming delegation. He gave the key points that the government wishes to cover, with the Minister’s visit. This gave a good opportunity to put the whole visit in a strategic context. The delegates could also introduce themselves to each other and helped in interaction within the delegates. Briefing with the New Zealand Minister 19 Sep 2022, 10 11 AM, New Zealand High Commission, New Delhi The delegates got to meet with the NZ Trade Minister, Hon Damien O’Conner in a one to one interaction. This gave them the opportunity to share with the minister, the sectors based opportunities, and challenges that the New Zealand companies see, with regards to working with India. This was a unique opportunity for the minister as well to hear directly from the Kiwi businesses. This helped to put the meetings with various officials in the right context. Invest India Meeting: 19 Sep 19 Sep 2022, 2-4 PM, Invest India office, New Delhi This was a meeting to focus on the new initiatives of the Govt of India, to support foreign investments. The delegates were given detailed presentations on: • Exploring the India NZ collaboration with the Startups Ecosystem • Enhancing trade and bilateral relations through ODOP • States Connect Series: Karnataka, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Himachal Pradesh. Connections were made with the key officials, for different states. Cocktails & Reception dinner hosted by the NZ High Commissioner 19 Sep 2022, 7 PM onwards, New Zealand High Commission, New Delhi New Zealand High Commissioner, David Pine, hosted a dinner in honour of the visiting delegation and the Minister. The evening saw a great turnout with key stakeholders from India corporate world and government officials. This was a great opportunity for the delegates to network. INZBC also signed an MOU of partnership with ANZIBA [Australia New Zealand India Business Association], for any work based out of Delhi. This was a very insightful discussion with Mr. Majumdar, who is one of the people to lead the trade discussion with New Zealand.

Mr. Majumdar shared the thoughts and policies of the Government of India and gave a background on the thinking of the current government of international trade. Some key points were:

Govt. of India is keen to engage and grow the dialogue with New Zealand on trade, on a sector based model.

India is not looking at blanket FTA and multilaterals, but keener on bilaterals, that work to the strengths of both countries.

India is keen to engage in the sectors of education, technology, manufacturing, etc.

Meetings with other trade chambers:

INZBC core team met with other trade chambers to support the growth of the council and renew our ties with them. The chambers invited INZBC for future delegations and we also sought support likewise. More events and delegations will be planned in the future with them.
