Emerging micro-scapes in the cityĘźs fabric Case study: Nikiforou Foka 19 Diploma thesis Thessaloniki, Greece September 2016- June 2017 Autocad 2D, SketchUp, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator In collaboration with Stavroula Kaparou

Relying on the belief that the Greek, as well as the worldwide crisis is a result of a deeper social crisis, we tried to think of simple ways of re-connecting citizens, in order to enhance the notion of neighborhood and consequently, the bonds between the city and its people. Our research mainly relies on the theory of “Urban Acupuncture, thus we decided to actualize our project within the area of the city center of Thessaloniki, where we compiled a list of 24 urban voids as possible design areas. The actual design is delivered in one of them, located in the street of Nikiforou Foka, an area characterized by a unique historic past, since at the end of the estate numerous findings belonging to the byzantine racetrack have been discovered. Furthermore, until roughly 1919 the area used to be a road, once named Vasileos Irakliou. Today, the estate belongs to the municipality, is restricted and non- accessible. The two basic design-axes have been the needs of the inhabitants, which were researched through questionnaires, and the reinstatement of the old passage. Thus, by lining the concepts of public and familiar space with the form of an arcade and the archetype form of the house, we created a shell that sketches the movement and culminates in a bridge that runs across and features the ancient findings. In parallel with the abovementioned shell, a different system based in the shape of grid is developing, in a static way and in height, which hosts multiple activities: relaxation/pause, playground, study/workshop, screening, bazaar and exhibition. The two systems are different not only with regards to their form and use, but also in materialization: movement > wood, action and pause > metal. However, in a sense they form a unity, since they are in a state of continuous dialog, by interrupting or penetrating into each other.

Landscape design The steam of 40 ekklisies 7th semester 40 Ekklisies, Thessaloniki, Greece September 2014- Februari 2015 Autocad 2D, Rhinoceros, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator In collaboration with Charalampos Potzidis and Constantina Tsiara

Starting point was the suspicion of the liquid element. The characteristics of the liquid element is the flowidity, fluidity and fuzzy boundaries, meanings that determine the composition and characterize each intervetion, relations and connections of elements, the route of the visitor. Experiments were made in working models in concern with the flow and with watercolor. Watercolor was the main tool as well they yield the most accurate way the meanings of liquidity, explosion-splashes, fuzzy boundaries and smooth transition from one element to another. However, designing and with a view to implement the meaning of capacity, the products of watercolors captured on paper as route planning and plateau while the liquid element follows an artificial channel system, strict etching and which based on design rules and norms and the use of crooked line, instead of curved, encountered in the urban web. That system unites scattered basins in an area of the finished park. The supply of water provided by natural rainfall at times but also proposed the design of artificial supply for dry periods. The main goal is the creation of a park that is not just pleasant passage for pedestrians, but a place tha will attract visitors for relaxation and commune with a different state of the urban scenery. It is a land that one can be both lost and browse the organized routes and in the green.

School of Theatre 7th semester Egnatia street, Thessaloniki, Greece September 2014- February 2015 Autocad 2D, Rhinocheros, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator In collaboration with Constantina Vlaxou, Evelina

After evaluation of the first impressions of the area, decided to use the grid, that represents the urban web and be combined with the apparent randomness that seems to grow naturally. The aim was to create a space that tries to mimic the way nature creates passages and obstacles, gaps and full, open and closed parts. Further aim was to link nature to the urban space, through the overstressing of this contrast, the emergence of “playful” and the creative process of a theatre school against guided process of military operations and the emergence of the stream and its surroundings as a “gift” to the densely populated city of Thessaloniki and as a retreat away from the bustling Egnatia street. In the process that grid look third dimension and emerged in a form that was named “scaffolding”. In that scaffold seems to snap stereometric tumors in cases, and as they go up in level, it seems to float over the ground.

Espina: wedge in Spanish. The glasses got their name from their main feature that are mainly based on the sphenoid bone of the head. This support is made by placing silicone at the ends of both arms. The secondary support is carried out by the bridge, the section running through the nose and connects the two lenses. The frame is made entirely by stainless steel, which makes it light and comfortable thanks to the high elasticity.

Phyllotaxis is the device of leaves of some plant, which obeys in cardinality and sequences such as the sequence of Fibonacci. The graph of the sequence constitue the starting point for processing and realization of the idea. From the pattern arises distracted a bit, which after a modification in grasshopper and rhino concludes the implementation of a "public seating". The arising mesh has primarly the use of a vertical, "public seating" which can be placed both in closed and open space. It consists of two wooden frames which are connected via the embedded seats embedded and removable.

Hotel 3th semester Kalamaria, Thessaloniki, Greece September 2012- June 2013 Autocad 2D, Rhinocheros, Sketchup, Vray for Rhino, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator In collaboration with Stavroula Kaparou

The main targer of the design was to activate the area, attract young people and improve the quality of life through eco-friendly operations. It is important to mention the placement of public space as it is used to be an industrial area with barn structures. This structures converted into greenhouses, in order to both acquire an interesting use and preserve the notion of memory. Last but not least, the orientation of buildings take advantage of sunlight and an undergroung water system helps to reduce the waste of water.
