Conversion of the French Consulate into a Hotel Re-use 1880s 1300 m2 Site: Chania | Greece Date: 2015 Type: Commision Design: A&G Varoudakis Architects Assistant Architects: Ioanna Fragkaki Stefi Filippopoulou Xenia Papatriantafyllou Status: Under Construction
The property currently consists of two buildings, the main and a smaller one. The central building was built in the style of Villa, with strong western influences. The restoration mainly concerns the outer shell, adding architectural elements which have been removed or destroyed through time.
The wooden roof and wooden floors will be replaced with new. The building stands on three levels to house a first class boutique hotel. Not only the interiors will be handmade, but so will the outside spaces, in order to retain a consistent unique identity.

Private residence in Chania
400 m2 Site: Chania | Greece Date: 2015 Type: Commision Design: A&G Varoudakis Architects Assistant Architects: Ioanna Fragkaki Stefi Filippopoulou Status: Under Construction
The project is located in the suburbs of Chania, Crete. The residential building is conceived as a bracket which isolates the north, east and south facades from the surrounding area and orients the building towards the main element; the sea, on the west. The core of the residence consists of the main living spaces, the master bedroom and the northern wing which hosts the guestrooms.

Conversion of 4 buildings into a Hotel Re-use
These Venetian houses are situated in the historic urban center of Chania. Components of several historical phases must be accredited for their transformation into a modern high standard accommodation. The design of this special space intends to highlight important elements of different phases of the past but also to achieve its coupling with modern materials and construction techniques to create a single timeless architectural ensemble, which will ensure the stately presence of the building in the future.

Belaya Dacha Park Residential complex
Site: Belaya Dacha Moscow | Russia Date: 2014 Type: Commision Design: de Architecten Cie. Status: Under Construction
Masterplan Belaya Dacha Park is organized as a block configuration. The blocks are subdivided into a plinth with urban villas. These urban villas are positioned to allow uninterrupted views and maximum insolation of the courtyard and the apartments. Additionally, this block maximizes the number of corner apartments, offering a high quality residential space.

Pedestrian areas
The project dealt with the design of a new satellite city on the outskirts of Moscow. Next to commercial space, services and amenities, the mixeduse development will comprise approximately half a million square meters of residential space for over 20,000 inhabitants. The urban plan proposes a structure which ensures balance between order and spontaneity, cohesion and variation. The city blocks are organized on a grid that determines the structures of the streets, blocks and public spaces. All major streets are organized to frame views of the surrounding landscape features or the central
park. The building volume and density gradually reduces as you move away from the center of the plan towards the periphery. Various ‘soft functions’ and facilities are incorporated into the blocks which ensures and enhances their urban character. Within the courtyard blocks there are communal, semi-public spaces (green rooms) with playgrounds for children. Commercial/office space is mixed with the housing blocks along the pedestrian streets. South of the southern access road, there are mixed use buildings with some housing, education, services, medical center, engineering, and more.
Conversion of a clothing mill into a chapel Re-use 1950s _ Designed by G. Rietveld
Site: de Ploeg Bergeijk | The Netherlands Date: 2011-2012 Ioanna Fragkaki TU Delft | MSc1 Heritage & Architecture(RMIT) Mentors: Alexander de Ridder Frank Koopman
The cloth mill "De Ploeg" designed by Gerrit Rietveld in 1956, introduced the idea of "community". The religious centre "De Ploeg" reintroduces the idea of "community". It brings all people together no matter of their religious views. The existing envelope becomes a shell shelter for everyone. The concept of the project is the creation of a processional route which runs through the building, changes the views of the visitor and reveals to the public the procedure of praying.

Knitting of different functions, atmospheres and spaces. The mass and the void become the medium to express this knitting, sometimes by adding material and sometimes by extracting material.
My graduation project concerned the design of "The house of wine" in Santorini. The project consists in designing a winery on the same location where old quarries once were placed on the outskirts of the village Oia, situated north of the Greek volcanic island Santorini.
difference which strongly demarks a boundary between the town and the remaining surroundings. This separation has a strong impact on the local landscape and for this reason I wanted to explore the ways a boundary can be transformed from a separating element to a connecting one; explore the boundary The quarries, a cultural landscape, are as an architectural concept. The attention is positioned right next to the town Oia and focused on ways that a landscape of great therefore they create a substantial height- importance can be treated and even preserved.

Public courtyard
The public courtyard becomes a unifying element, connecting the outdoor with the indoor area, accommodating public functions
and uses. The idea of “community revives again, and the building becomes the medium for this to be achieved.

walls that live and breathe
The dominant landscape (rocks) and the difference in height, disconnects the lake from the upper part of the city.
The Shelter
A reconnection is attempted through an urban fissure which instead of separating brings together two different elements. The reconnection is achieved through a processional route that ends to a shelter under the level of the lake. The urban fissure frames the lake, the connected port and the city and the visitor can experience the different views through the stairs that lead to the shelter.
Site: Aghios Nikolaos Lake Crete| Greece Date: 2012 Ioanna Fragkaki TU Delft | MSc2 The Abri Mentor: Bernard Olsthoorn
The lake of Agios Nikolaos has distinctive vertical walls, reminiscent of a volcanic crater, which is why some people believe that it was created by a sunken volcano. The idea of a bottomless lake creates the feeling of fear and awe to the visitor. the visitor wants to be
not too close to the lake not too far away from the lake
"When we, from a safe distance, experience objects of nature expressing a force that it would be futile trying to resist, we regard them as fearful even though we are not actually afraid of those objects." Immanuel Kant
the experience of the wall
the shelter is protected from a big thick wall the wall is 3 dimensional, as the visitor can experience the space even while being within the wall the view is framed differently

entrance to the "fissure"
At the beginning of the stairs the view is completely free and unblocked. The whole city appears, but as the visitor reaches the level of the lake, the view is blocked and the landscape is lost from sight. The re-appearance of the lake occurs inside the shelter, under the surface of the lake. The re - discovery of the lake takes place from a safe distance, not too far, not too close.
