My passion for architecture initiated from my inherent fondness for art and demand for logic. Through my educational and professional experiences, I strive to further decode the ways that architecture may evoke emotion, spark curiosity and improve our everyday lives. The following content of this portfolio is a curated collection of my architectural design and work that reflect my passion for creation and ambition to convert that passion into meaningful content.

1960's Retrofit
Project completed in year 4 of degree. ABOUT THE PROJECT
The proposed building was constructed in the early 1960s prior to any building standards, the existing five-story over basement commercial office building is deemed unfit for purpose. The structural form of the building consists of a cast in-situ, reinforced concrete frame with up stand walls, with 50 mm of dry line EPS insulation on the internal face of the wall is the only insulation present. The project consisted of upgrading the facade of the existing building to achieve the EnerPHit standard set out by the Passivhaus Institute to achieve deep retrofit. A detailed Revit model was produced and a Passive House Planning Package (PHPP) assessment was undertaken to asses compliance. An Integrated Environmental Solutions Virtual Environment (IESVE) was also undertaken to analyze Solar overheating risk and analyze the associated cooling loads.
'Low Energy, High Performance Commercial RetroďŹ t' Located in a Cork City Centre site, the brief for this project was to undertake a quantitative analysis of the existing building. In turn researching and proposing a suitable low energy retroďŹ t strategy to achieve the Passivhaus EnerPHit standard, as to avail considerable improvement in respect of comfort, structural protection, cost-effectiveness and energy requirements.

Scoil Niocláis Primary School Project completed in year 3 of degree. ABOUT THE PROJECT
The building selected as a case study for the technical design studio module is a primary school located in Frankfield, Cork, Ireland. The project at hand consisted of producing a Revit model, generating general arrangement drawings, annotated technical details of critical junctions & to produce a fire & disability access document in compliance with Technical Guidance Document Part 'B', 'M' & 'K'. A sustainable approach was taken in regards to material selection, the use of low to zero volatile organic compounds (VOC's) was favoured, and building materials selected on the basis that they have Environmental Product Declarations (EPD), in the aim to reduce the environmental impact of the building. The proposed design is constructed of 'Porotherm®' clay masonry units which are designed to be both structural and thermal elements, possessing a compressive strength of 10 N/sq.mm and thermal conductivity of 0.07 W/mK (λ) A selection of 'GUTEX®' ecological wood fibre insulation was incorporated into the design to improve the building thermal envelope while following the requirement of being environmentally conscious, providing an average wall U-Value of 0.17 W/m²K.

'Educational building for all' Located in the outskirts of Cork, Ireland the Scoil Nioclais project focused on many key aspects in creating an accessible building for its users and visitors. Careful consideration was taken in complying with Technical Guidance Document Part M to provide facilities that allow for a holistic design approach for all end users.

Harper Campbell Building Project completed in year 2 of degree. ABOUT THE PROJECT
The proposed building is a mixed-use residential and retail development located in Sligo, Ireland. The project involved the introduction of conservation in regards to designing with protected structures. The building consists of an existing limestone facade which belonged to a historic grain mill. The ground floor of the building is redeveloped to accommodate a car park, and three new retail spaces and the upper levels consist of multi-storey apartments. The project consisted of analysing the existing structure and building fabric to produce a Revit model in which, general arrangement drawings and annotated technical details of critical junctions could be generated.
'Heritage Building with a proposed mixed-use' Located in a Sligo, Ireland the Harper Campbell building is a listed historic grain mill, the proposed interventions could only be fully incorporated with ďŹ rst understanding basic conservation principles and methods whilst working with the building heritage.
Harper Campbell Building Project began with hand drawings before producing a Revit model.

The Architecture Factory Project completed in year 3 of degree. ABOUT THE PROJECT
A design proposal for the boulevard of the Architecture Factory located on the campus of Cork Institute of Technology. The project was undertaken over a two week period and was aimed at utilising the theory learned in a 'Lighting Design' elective module. To enhance the proposed design and improve the quality of the space, creating a lighting scheme for the boulevard was the task of this project. Presenting sketches for different areas (study, kitchen, eating area) to show the atmosphere and the effect created by lighting. During this project, I learned about lighting, colour temperature, lux levels and the importance of having adequate lighting for a space.
'Internal spaces & their influences on end users'
Photography by Janice O’Connell F22
Light can quickly and powerfully alter the appearance and emotional effect of our designed spaces. A designer can spend any amount of time refining the layout of a space, the scale of a space, the materials and finishes of a space. However with a few simple strokes, lighting can be applied to truly enhance or utterly destroy the desired effect.
Pin Up Space
The addition of adjustable spotlights on a tension wire system allows for a bright balanced lighting which is important for faithful colour rendering to effectively present student work on display.
Dining Area
Linear pendant lights are suspended over the table surfaces providing good light on the table for meals and drinks, visibility of people at the table, and adequate lighting in the area.
