FROM INSIDE SYRIA
Asilah, 28, is displaced from Jobar (2 KM from Damascus city-center under ongoing violence) where she lived with her husband in his family’s house making income from a vegetable shop. The armed conflict disrupted the neighbourhood severely: the family’s house was directly hit by a mortar, two of her nephews were killed while the house was rendered inhabitable. The family soon moved to Kafar Batnah in East Ghouta (Rural Damascus) escaping the violence. Later, East Ghouta came under siege and the humanitarian situation quickly deteriorated. Asilah’s family managed to take advantage of a one day cease-fire on a route near Kafar Batnah and travelled to As-Sweida. Now she lives with her husband in a tent. Her husband, who is not fit to do hard work, tries to take any opportunity to generate income. The few workdays he can have causes him sever morbid fatigue to the extent of bone fracture in certain cases. Through IOM, Asilah and her 5 children received NFI and shelter support: a fan, a chargeable light, and a garbage bin; the family was also able to move from their tent to a collective shelter set up by IOM to protect her family and others from the cold winter approaching.
