TRANSPORT
Displacement Highlights
IOM Iraq continues to deliver life-saving family non-food item kits throughout Iraq, with 2,560 family NFI kits delivered on 16 and 17 September to internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Iraq. The number of IDPs has increased exponentially in the northern governorate of Erbil due to clashes between government forces and armed groups in the surrounding governorates. As of 1 September, Erbil hosts more than 29,000 IDP families in 49 distinct locations identified by IOM.
18,164Â IDPs
Displaced persons originating from Ninewa governorate make up nearly half of the 1.7 million IDPs in Iraq. Only 12% of these are displaced within the governorate - primarily in Akre and AlShikhan. More than half of the displaced families from Ninewa, estimated to be 450,000 IDPs, have fled to Dahuk, seeking safety and security in the bordering governorates.
IOM quickly responds to transport needs as they arise.
More than 40,000 families have been displaced from Salah Al-Din governorate as of 1 September, second only to the number of displaced families from Ninewa. The vast majority of IDPs from Salah Al-Din are seeking refuge in Kirkuk, Erbil and Sulaymaniyah.
Overall 4 Aug - 17 Sept, 2014, IOM transported:
From the insecure areas to various locations within the Kurdistan Region of Iraq in coordination with the Development and Modification Center and the Kurdistan Region Border Security Management
