March 2016 Newsletter The dreary wet and windy weather has not been conducive to bat-observing, although some have been seen foraging at times when the weather has been kinder. Subscriptions The Treasurer hopes that all those who have not yet paid their 2016 subscription will wish to renew their membership by the first of April. Just send her a fiver at the above address or remit to the Isles of Scilly Bat Group account: 10027790; sort code – 20-67-19, Barclays Bank, Isles of Scilly Branch, PO Box 8, Hugh Street, TR21 0PN. If in doubt whether you have paid, please ring (01720 422224) or e-mail (e.anne,gurr@gmail.com) to find out. She should have sent you a receipt anyway Recorders’ Group The outcome of the 2015 summer meeting was the decision to form an Isles of Scilly Biological Recorders’ Group to encourage people to submit more complete and useful information about their observations of all kinds of wildlife – not just bats. For all sorts of reasons, this has been slow to get going but we hope to provide more information as the summer approaches.
Bat Group Summer Meeting 2016 The topic will be Bat Evolution and our main speaker will be Lisa Worledge, the Bat Conservation Trust’s Group Coordinator. We also hope to attract a speaker from the Royal Society of Biology. A date has not yet been fixed but will be advertised as soon as decided. Bat walks, St Mary’s, 2016 We plan to hold a bat walk monthly between April and September. The dates are: Tuesday 26 April Wednesday 25 May Tuesday 21 June Thursday 28 July Wednesday 24 August Wednesday 14 September Circumstances may require a change to one or more of these dates. The walks will be widely advertised at least a week in advance through newsletters, on posters around Hugh Town, and via Radio Scilly so please look out for them as the time approaches.
