Tuesday 19 July Bat walk for IOS Bat Group members and participants Meet at Vale View Cottage, Maypole at 9.25pm This walk will incorporate the BCT’s National Bat Monitoring Programme Field Survey. Please bring a torch; be prepared for some rough walking. The walk may well not finish until 11.30pm. Wednesday 20 July 11.30 Refreshments and welcome: Marian Bennett, Chairman 12.00 The Evolution of Bats: talk by Lisa Worledge, Bat Conservation Trust (BCT) Fossil evidence for bats goes back many millions of years and it is likely that the earliest bats were around when dinosaurs roamed the earth. But what ancestor did bats evolve from? What was the first bat? Which came first: flight or echolocation? How are the bat species around today related to one another? This presentation will consider all these questions and look at what the latest research tells us about the evolutionary history of these amazing animals.
