Almudena Gil THE JEWELER

Every revolution needs a hero. So we went searching for ours and called this quest: LOVE THY WORK SERIES It is dedicated to those lucky enough to have found what they truly love to do.

Almudena Gil THE JEWELER Circo Jewelry was founded by Almudena Gil in 2005. Soon after graduating from Jewelry Design, she began to create her own pieces producing two collections a year, developing its own unique style based on a variety of subjects, motifs and materials. The animal kingdom and nature are a great source of inspiration for Circo as well as music, art deco, ancient cultures and everyday objects, all of which are combined with large doses of fantasy. All pieces are handmade in Spain. The metals used, mainly brass and silver, are sanded, welded and polished by hand, step by step, one by one. Semi-precious stones and glass are used to enhance color to the pieces. We can also find other materials such as coral and pearls. Some of the pieces take many hours of meticulous and laborious work at the atelier where each one becomes a unique showcase of craftsmanship. Each piece usually comes in its own natural, metal color as they are not plated.

This was painted by someone on the lid of a sewer. 2. Where are you going to spend the night?

I will sleep like a log 3. What thing is necessary for your work?

I use a lot of tools, files, crossbeams, a compass saw to carve the wax and let the pieces rest once they are made into metal…. And the blowtorch is very important too! 4. What would we find in your fridge now?

Chicken, milk, oranges, carrots and beer… 5. What book has you read lately?

I was reading a second hand manual on jewelry making but I left it 6. How would you explain your work to an 8 year old child?

I make necklaces, bracelets, rings… with a lot of patience and love so you they last a very long time and you never tire of wearing them. 7. If you were a super hero, what super power would you like to have?

It would be great to be able to fly. A classic! And also be able to tidy up just by looking at the mess. 8. What makes you smile?

I like playing with words. When I make a mistake with a word I like to use by inventing a new one. 9. What would you do with a lungi?

Gazpacho in summer and lentils in winter.
