With another victory this week at Harbour Town, the Callaway FT Tour Driver earned its seventh win in nine weeks on the PGA Tour. In addition to the unprecedented run of success currently underway in the Driver category, the Company’s Irons and Tour i Series Golf Balls have won five of the last ten tournaments contested. The Company’s brand of Odyssey putters have also won five of its eight 2010 PGA victories during this scorching stretch that began at Mayakoba.  Impressively, this incredible start to the season has been earned by a staff of tour professionals that is considerably smaller in number than those competing for the other major equipment manufacturers.   Also at Hilton Head this weekend, Callaway Staff Professional Stuart Appleby had his best finish of the 2010 season, finishing tied for eighth at 8-under-par for the tournament. Appleby shot 69-67-73-67 at Harbour Town Golf Links. In Appleby’s bag was the Callaway FT Tour Driver, a Diablo Edge Tour 15-degree Fairway

A Masters to Remember Tim Darrah ISC Contributor

It had EVERYTHING! The 2010 Masters grabbed center stage in the sports world and beyond with Tiger’s much anticipated return but what transpired had more twists and turns than an episode of “24”! Our Masters week started with our arrival on Wednesday, just in time for the Par 3 tournament. We entered the hallowed grounds through the new main entrance off Berckman Road. It replaced the old entrance off Washington Road and winds past the new, elaborate practice facility. It’s hard to fathom that last year it was a gravel parking lot. If you didn’t know, you’d swear it had been there for years. Not a blemish to be found, just like the course itself. It is certainly a much more fitting entree to the grand cathederal that is Augusta National. The Par 3 tournament is perfect. It culminates the week for the legends, such as Arnie and Jack, that don’t play in the regular tournament anymore, gives the young amateurs and first timers a chance to get some of the nerves out and allows the veterans a chance to tune up their wedge game while having some fun with family and fans. The course is a mini version of the big course, with it’s hills, ponds, slick greens and, of course, colorful azaleas and dogwoods. If going, park yourself between the 8”’ green and 9’ tee box. You can see both holes and it’s the best place to get pictures and autographs of the players. Foreshadowing of the 2010 Masters to come, came when 80 year old Arnold Palmer, playing along side Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player on the

91h and final hole, sunk a 35 foot downhill birdie putt. It was the first of many roars to come!! Thursday morning at 7:40 AM, surrounded by adoring fans, Arnie and Jack hit their ceremonial tee shots, signaling the official start of the 2010 Masters. What unfolded the rest of the day, was one of the most memorable opening rounds in Masters history. The weather was perfect and the course was playing hard and fast, but fair. As the first round frontrunner’s names and scores were put up on the venerable old leader boards dotting the course, a palpable buzz could be felt throughout the extra large galleries. There were birdies and eagles aplenty and roars that hadn’t been heard echoing through Augusta National with that much frequency in years. At the end of the day, Sixty years young, Tom Watson shoots a 67 and is only one shot out of the lead! Fifty year old Fred Couples, sans socks for the week, leads, with his Masters best round of 66! Phil

Mickelson is only one back and Tiger fires a personal first round best of 68 and is only two back. Two Euros (Westwood and Poulter) are one and two shots back respectfully, as were Asians Y.E. Yang and K.J. Choi. Two young guns, Anthony Kim and Nick Watney fired 68’s. Our own Zach Johnson was two under. Our post round scotch and cigar were extra satisfying! The course seemed to be set up a little tougher on Friday and that, combined with gusty winds blowing pollen everywhere like an Oklahoma dust storm, sent the scores up. Couples was hanging in there until bogeys on 16,17 & 18 took him from two back to five. Phil and Tiger pretty much treaded water, staying within striking distance of the English duo of Westwood and Poulter, who shared the lead. Saturday was incredible! Freddy Couples got himself back within shouting distance with a fine 68. Poulter and Westwood continued their assault and made it look like we would be in for an all England final. Tiger was making a lot of birdies but a lot of bogeys too, while Phil was sputtering along, not doing much of anything, through the first twelve holes. Then it happened! ! Phil came to the par 5 thirteenth hole needing to make a little magic. We had just moved to our chairs on the par 3 sixteenth hole to watch the leaders come through when the first roar came. It came from the direction of the thirteenth green, where Phil was. (The roars at the Masters are all distinguishable. There are birdie roars, eagle roars and hole-in-one roars.) This was definitely an

The Preserve Garners National Recognition Iowa Golf Association

The Preserve on Rathbun Lake is quickly becoming a favorite among golfers of all skill levels and was recently recognized as one of the best new public courses in the United States by several leading golf publications. Golf Digest named The Preserve in the “Top 10 Best New Public Courses 2009.” Golf Magazine selected The Preserve as an Honorable Mention for “Best New Courses 2009,” and Golf Inc. magazine chose the course as runnerup for “Development of the Year for U.S. Courses” in 2009. According to Darin Fisher, The Preserve’s PGA Director of Golf, the positive economic impact resulting from the influx of visitors to Honey Creek Resort State Park is just beginning. “Although we encountered some construction delays prior to opening due to weather conditions, the word is quickly spreading that we have a world-class facility right here in southern Iowa,” Fisher said. “Judging by the license plates of cars in the

parking lot last summer, we’re drawing visitors from across the Midwest.” Because Iowa ranks among the highest for number of golf courses per capita, competition for customers is fierce. That’s why Fisher directs his staff to provide a level of service that is second to none. “Earning repeat business starts with great employees delivering extraordinary service,” Fisher said. “We strive to give each guest a ‘country club’ experience at a value price.

Iowa Golf Association Mission Statement The Iowa Golf Association is the governing body for golf in the state of Iowa and exists as a non-profit organization that works to preserve, protect and promote the best interests and spirit of the game. Primary activities include administration of the USGA Handicap and Course Rating Systems, oversight of the Rules of Golf and Amateur Status, educational programs for members and club employees and the conduct of statewide amateur championships. The IGA also works to promote the sharing of information through publications and our website, and to encourage a spirit of harmony and cooperation among golf clubs and other allied associations.

Operation State Champ

Kevin Beard Otter Creek PGA Professional

nkeny is home to one of the largest and most successful junior golf programs in the country. The Operation State Champ Junior Program, run by PGA Professional Kevin Beard, was established in 1993 with the goal of improving the skills in the students allowing them to achieve the namesake, playing in the State Golf Tournament. The program consists of two phases. Phase one is the beginning summer program that reaches over 250 kids a year in a series of beginning and advanced junior clinics. Phase two is the Winter Program. The Winter Program is held in an old vacated fire station which has 7,000 sq feet of space that has been split into three rooms; full swing room, putting room, and classroom. Kids meet twice a week for six weeks, spending a half hour in each room every night. Classes of 12 to 14 students flow through the building and the different teaching areas from 3:30 to 8:30 every night through the week in January and February. Each area is staffed with PGA Professionals, (nine total PGA Professionals in 2010), who use the top technology available. The program has three laptops loaded with V-1 sing analysis software, two launch monitors, two i-club motion analysis units, a Megsa Machine, and a variety of swing trainers. The full swing room has 7 hitting stalls and the putting green is 960 sq. feet of artificial surface with nine holes. The class room uses computers and projectors to study Tour Professionals swings and to study rules. Heading into the 2010 season, the Winter Program has helped

produce a tremendous crop of outstanding golfers. Since 1997, the program has had 127 state appearances out of 70 different girls, 192 state appearances out of 109 different boys. There have been 8 Individual Girls champions and four individual Boys champions. Using the criteria of at least three students on the team, the program has had four Girl’s Team championships, and Two Boy’s Team championships, as well as a large number of top ten team and individual finishes. We have lost track of the number of kids who have gone on to compete in college, but it is substantial. The program also has had a student play in the Masters, as Jack Newman spent a few winters in the program and continues to work out in the fire station every winter break. This last winter, 172 students were enrolled in the program. This is down slightly from the largest class in 2007 of 205 kids, but still very impressive. Prominent long time teachers in the program are Iowa State Golf Coach Judd Gibb, Grandview Golf Coach Chris Winkel, PGA Professionals Tom Tays, Shane Marvelli, Brian Lorenz, Sarah Bidney, and Brandon Miller. This group includes numerous Player of the Year, Teacher of the Year, and Junior Golf Leader of the year award winners for the Iowa Section PGA and they are the reason the program has had such great success. Registration for the program doesn’t start until the fall every year as the Professionals are busy with the regular golf season. Information and registration for the program will be available at the

Odyssey to Offer Prototype Phil Mickelson Putter Tim Buckman Sr. Director, Global Communications Callaway Golf

Callaway Golf Company (NYSE: ELY) today announced the introduction of the Odyssey® ProType™ 82 Putter, a limited edition design inspired by the same model Phil Mickelson used to win his third Green Jacket. Only 82 right-handed and 82 left-handed ProType putters will be available for purchase in the United States.   Beginning May 10 at 11:00 AM ET (8:00 AM PT), those interested in owning one of these limited edition putters can sign up to be eligible for purchase on a first-come basis at OdysseyGolf.com. Each of these 164 individually numbered, limited edition putters features a green highlight on the sole, a nod to Mickelson’s win at Augusta earlier this month. Since the year 2000, Odyssey has been the # 1 Putter across the world’s major professional tours in wins, usage and top-10 finishes. Throughout 2010, Odyssey putters have performed particularly well on the PGA Tour, already claiming a total of eight victories—the majority of which were captured by models featuring Odyssey’s distinctive White Hot and White Ice® inserts, which run across the face of the putter. Odyssey’s eight PGA Tour wins is more than putters

from Ping®, TaylorMade®, Nike® and Rife® have combined in 2010. The ProType 82 features Odyssey’s new White Ice insert, with a Tungsten weight behind it, along with a single white sightline that stretches from the face of the putter down the back flange—a look requested by Mickelson himself. These limited edition PT 82 putters will also come with a Phil Mickelson Limited Edition headcover and a Black Series grip, identical to what the fourtime major champion used to win at Augusta. “I’m very excited that the designers at Odyssey have produced this limited edition putter with the same design as my gamer,” Mickelson said. “Tournaments are won and lost on the green, which is why I rely on Odyssey technology. Our design team gives me the best chance to win. Odyssey’s winning results on tour are a testament to their engineering capabilities.” “We develop more putters for tour players around the world than any other company,” said Austie Rollinson, Principle Designer for

Odyssey Golf. “Phil came to us a few years back to develop this particular model and he’s obviously had great success with it on the PGA Tour. The ProType 82 Putter was developed due to the large number of requests we receive from people interested in the product that Phil uses on the game’s biggest stage.” “There are also a handful of ProType putters like Phil’s in development and in play on tours across the world,” Rollinson added. “We firmly believe that in order for Odyssey to remain the dominant putter company in the world, it’s crucial that we continue to develop and vet our ideas with the best players in the game.”   Each of the 164 individually numbered, limited edition ProType 82 putters will be sold at a price of $500.  For more information on this offer and Odyssey’s complete lineup, please visit www.odysseygolf.com. A Masters To Remember (continued from page 5) Phil’s tee shot on the reachable par 5 fifteenth was behind some trees leaving him no alternative but to lay up. He had a wedge coming in but the lay up area on fifteen is on a rather severe downslope and, with a pond fronting the green, is no easy shot. We could see the fifteenth green from our seats on sixteen green but not the hole itself, only most of the flag. Phil’s wedge was heading straight at the flag. The crowd on 15 told us the rest of the story as their pitch grew louder and louder as the ball headed for the hole. Could he hole out again for a third straight eagle? Alas, it missed by a couple of inches but gave him a tap in birdie. Five under on three holes! That was one of the most exciting three hole stretches of golf ever. Phil finished off the round and, not only got himself back in the hunt for a third green jacket, but in to the final pairing with the leader, Lee Westwood. As Sunday’s round began there was still hope that Tiger could put some pressure on the leaders with some early birdies or that maybe even Freddy could have a miracle last round and steal it, but neither was to be. Tiger kept himself within shouting distance with a hole out eagle of his own on the par 4 seventh but just made too many bogeys and lacked the consistency you need to win a major. It was an impressive performance non the less and bodes well for his return. His will is still dominating, even when his game is lacking. I hope you tour players enjoyed his absence while it lasted, because, from what I witnessed, Tiger will be back, sooner rather than

later, as good or better than ever. Freddy made a nice run but needed a little help from the leaders that didn’t come. Anthony Kim, fresh off his win in Houston, made an impressive run on the back nine with a 3 1 which netted him third place. He appears ready to take the next step in his young career and seems to have major championships in his future. Sunday, though, was all about Phil. Starting the day one stroke back, he went bogey free and made three crucial par saves on 9,10 & 11 to stay even with Westwood who was stuck in neutral all day. Phil’s birdie on the par 3 twelfth finally got him the lead. The thirteenth, where Phil started his run Saturday, is a rather short dogleg par 5. It’s a classic risk, reward hole but fraught with danger. A good drive shaped around the comer gives you a relatively short shot at the green in two. Rae’s Creek guards the green running directly in front of and along the right side while a large bunker rests above on the left. Phil’s tee shot didn’t cut and he wound up through the fairway on some pine straw behind a couple of trees. Hitting through an opening between two trees is one thing, but doing it off pine straw, which is so loose it makes getting and maintaining a stable stance very tough to achieve, while you have a one stroke lead on the back nine at the Masters on Sunday afternoon, seemed crazy. After his debacle on the 72nd hole during the U.S. Open at Winged Foot, it seemed obvious that Phil would lay up and try to make birdie with his excellent wedge game. More importantly, he would take bogey out

of the equation. Like Arnold Palmer before him, there is a no lay up in Phil Mickelson. Not if there is any chance he can make the shot. As he surveyed the scene you could see it in his eyes that he thought he could make that shot. So, with everything on the line, knowing the criticism he would receive if he dumped it in Rae’s Creek and blew the tournament, Phil stepped up and hit one of the greatest shots in major golf history. I think in some respects, it even took him aback at how good it was, as he went on to miss what seemed a sure eagle putt, instead settling for birdie. Americans aren’t “lay up” people which is why they love him. That shot, in essence, put it away for Phil, exorcizing some of those Winged Foot demons. Aggressive to the end, he finished it in style with a birdie on eighteen. You couldn’t help but smile for him and yet also feel a little tug at the heart strings after his emotional embrace of wife Amy, who has been through so much. Congratulations to a true family man. How ironic that Phil won in Tiger’s comeback. I hope he was watching and realizes what he is missing. After observing Tiger all week, I do believe his efforts to change are sincere. Good guys can finish first! A Waffle House breakfast prior to our flight back home Monday morning was the perfect capper to “A Masters for the ages”!

On the Tee Conversations: Fuzzy Zoeller Mike Rickord, Judd Gibb and Bobby Vanscoy caught up with professional golfer Fuzzy Zoeller on the March 31 edition of On the Tea. In this segment, Zoeller and the guys discussed his plans for enjoying the Masters, the competition on the Championship Tour and more. Mike Rickord: Fuzz, thanks for taking time to interrupt your evening to join us On the Tee. Fuzzy Zoeller: You know you guys really screwed up a good vodka tonic right there, you know that? MR: I knew it. FZ: That’s OK, I understand, I understand. Only for my friends would I ever do that, you know that. Get away from a table, with a nice, tall vodka tonic standing in front of me. MR: Now, is that your own label I hope you’re imbibing on? FZ: Is there any other kind? MR: Well, we need to get a couple of those bottles. We just took this production on television. We need to get a couple of those bottles for our studio here to have as some aesthetics for the Fuzzy Zoeller Vodka. FZ: Oh, I’ll tell what. When I get to Des Moines I’ll have a couple for your set and by golly I’ll sign them and then you can put them up there. How’s that? MR: Sounds good. Where are you right now? FZ: I am in Lake Oconee, Georgia. It’s Greensboro, Georgia is where I’m at. I’m about 60 miles from Augusta right now. I’m down here fishing with a very good friend of mine, Richard Mattox. We’ve been doing this for, like, 23 years. It’s kind of a tradition. I come down about three or four days before Augusta

and then I go over Sunday morning. So, uh, we’re down here having a good time. We caught a lot of fish today and we’re looking to catch a lot more tomorrow. Bobby Vanscoy: This year is, obviously, is going to be your first year you haven’t played. How’re you feeling about that? I know you’ve still got some, you know, duties you have to do there, the Champions Dinner and some other things. FZ: I’ll tell you something. I think it’s going to be the first year I enjoy. I really will enjoy Augusta, just to be sitting up there around the club house, seeing all the other stuff, other curricular activities that go along. You know, I’m having the family down. I haven’t been able to spend a lot of time with them because I’m always out playing golf. So, it’s going to be fun. I’m looking forward to it. Thirty years is plenty for me, I can tell you. They made the course so long it’s not competitive, so why would you play? So that’s the reason why it was time to retire. Judd Gibb: Well Fuzzy, Tim Darrah, who’s here in the studio tonight is going to be there again at the Masters this year to watch the Par 3 Tournament. Now, we know that you’ve retired from the actual tournament. Will you be participating in the Par 3 Tournament this year? FZ: Oh, yeah. Hell, I can make that cut. Although, I will tell you, in the 30 years I was down there, I never did finish the Par 3. Because I always let some young lady or some young little boy putt out for me on 8 and 9 or 7, so I was always disqualified but it’s always fun. It’s a show deal. It’s great, you know, it’s 30,000 people that come to that Par 3 Tournament. It’s in a beautiful little

par 3 golf course. It is absolutely spectacular. BV: Yeah, last year, I mean, you about hit me once or twice? I can’t remember. FZ: Uh, probably twice, Bobby. I was aiming at you. BV: Yeah, I know. MR: I was gonna say that was intentionally, Bobby. MR: You know, Fuzz, one thing that in 2010, the Champions Tour with all these youngsters coming on board, and of course Tiger Woods being removed from the PGA Tour, the Champions Tour has been getting a lot of love in the golf world and rightfully so. Freddy’s (Couples) having an incredible year. Uh, Tommy Watson started out house of fire. Good times on the Champions Tour in 2010. FZ: Well, it is. You know, it’s frequently. Tom’s, Tom. I mean, he’s not only figured out how to putt again, and not from short range but from long range. He’s making a lot of the long puts. But it’s great to see Freddy and Corey Pavin and Tom Lehman and those guys do well out there. What the heck? I mean they’re the young guys again. And trust me there’s something to that feeling young again. Now, I’ve been on tour, what, seven years now? So I’m kind of on the other side of it. It is a great tour. You know, it’s mostly corporate run, corporate oriented. We hope everybody comes out and supports the Champions Tour. We have great experience with it. (It’s) a little bit different, a little bit more laid back than the PGA Tour but you know when we come to Des Moines, you know, everybody comes out. That’s a neighborhood get together out there and it’s fun to be in that area when we play there.

have helped make Callaway the No. 1 Irons company in the game for the last 13 consecutive years,” said Dr. Alan Hocknell, Senior Vice President of Research & Development, Callaway Golf. “We recognize there are golfers looking for distance gains throughout their entire bag, and thus employed our core technologies and faster ball speeds into the design of X-24 Hot, a longer, more accurate set than any of their predecessors.”

Callaway developed the new X-Hot 24 Irons for golfers who seek to gain distance not just with the longest clubs in their bag, but also when pulling out an iron on a long par-3 or flying the water to reach a par-5 in two.

The stealth PVD Finish, which is the result of a cutting-edge process designed to reduce glare and produce a distinctive look that is darker than most irons. X-24 Hot Irons were also made with Callaway’s core technologies including S2H2®, Precision Notch Weighting and Modified TruBore®, all working together to provide total performance for a wide range of golfers. The X-24 Hot Irons will be available at retail on May 28. The new product introduction retail price is $699 for steel-shafted sets, and $899 for graphite-shafted sets.
