The university offers more than 190 academic programs for undergraduate and graduate students who are taught by distinguished professors. It’s not unusual to turn on a television documentary and see a member of IPFW’s faculty as the “resident expert” on topics ranging from dinosaurs to Middle East politics. TM

As northeast Indiana’s premier public university, IPFW is committed to enhancing access to personalized, high-quality learning.

IPFW continues to grow, both in number of students and in facilities. The addition of more than a dozen soccer fields across the St. Joseph River from the main campus has greatly increased athletic opportunities for students as well as members of the community. IPFW has new, apartment-style student housing, offering a more traditional university experience to students. Plans for a new music building and a medical education center are in the works. IPFW’s academic organization is made up of 10 major units, which include the College of Engineering, Technology, and Computer Science; the Richard T. Doermer School of Business and Management Sciences; the School of Arts and Sciences; the School of Education; the School of Health Sciences; and the School of Visual and Performing Arts. It also includes the divisions of Continuing Studies, Labor Studies, Public and Environmental Affairs, and Organizational Leadership and Supervision. There are nearly 100 student organizations on IPFW’s campus. Groups include departmental organizations, honorary societies, religious organizations, social Greek fraternities and sororities, and special-interest groups. There are also several intramural sports. IPFW is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. 2

Fort Wayne history of the summit city Fort Wayne began as an outpost on the western frontier more than 200 years ago. It gained its nickname, the “Summit City,” by being the highest place between the Maumee River and Wabash River basins.

Now with a population in excess of 200,000 people, it is the second largest city in Indiana. As such, it offers its citizenry a wide variety of things to do, see, and appreciate. For the sportsminded, there are three professional teams based here: the United Hockey League’s Fort Wayne Komets, the Midwest League’s Single A Baseball Fort Wayne Wizards (whose parent club is the San Diego Padres), and the United Indoor Football Association’s Fort Wayne Freedom. Fort Wayne holds several places in sports history. It is the birthplace of the National Basketball Association and the home of the Daisies, one of five teams in the first professional women’s baseball league. Fort Wayne also has the honor of holding the first night baseball game under lights. For those interested in the performing arts, the Summit City offers venues such as the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, Fort Wayne Ballet, Civic Theatre, Artlink, Fort Wayne Dance Collective, and Fort Wayne Youtheatre. Some little known trivia about Fort Wayne: the inventor of the television, Philo T. Farnsworth, was born here as was fashion designer Bill Blass. Fort Wayne is the home of the washing machine, baking powder, parking meters, magnetic wire, streetlights, and gas pumps.

chancellor Academician and scientist Michael A. Wartell came to IPFW as vice chancellor for academic affairs and chemistry professor in 1993. On July 1, 1994, Wartell was installed as chancellor. His prior experience includes positions at Sandia Laboratories in Albuquerque, N.M.; Humboldt State University in Arcata, Calif.; and James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va.

He received a B.S. in chemistry from the University of New Mexico and both an M.S. and Ph.D. from Yale University in physical chemistry. Wartell currently serves on the U.S. Army Science Board and has worked on such projects as chemical warfare, manpower and logistics, and decontamination. He also serves on the Defense Science Board and chairs the Defense Intelligence Agency Science and Technology Advisory Board. Wartell stays involved in the Fort Wayne community by serving on the Board of Directors of the Greater Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce, Corporate Council, Leadership Fort Wayne, and Fort Wayne Philharmonic.

Gates Sports Center home of the mastodons The Gates Sports Center is home for the IPFW women’s volleyball, women’s basketball, and men’s volleyball teams. The center is also the practice facility for the IPFW men’s basketball program. The more than 68,000 square foot, tri-level facility is located on the northeast end of the IPFW campus and features a multipurpose gymnasium with three practice/game courts. The Gates Sports Center seats 2,700 for events. The center also houses a 1/9-mile indoor tartan rubber track, five racquetball/handball courts, a fully equipped fitness center, and newly renovated athletic locker rooms.

director of athletics Mark Pope was named IPFW’s director of athletics in July 2001 as the university was transitioning from NCAA Division II to Division I. That transition was completed Sept. 1, 2002, as IPFW earned NCAA Division I certification — on schedule and on budget.

Since that initial year, Pope has set about transforming IPFW Athletics into a program worthy of the name “Division I.” Among his accomplishments are the following: ▼ The annual IPFW Soccer Showcase was reorganized, drawing 15,000 fans in 2005. ▼ Men’s basketball attendance increased tenfold from 2000, including the highest percentage increase of all Division I institutions in 2003–04. ▼ Women’s volleyball attendance doubled from 2004 to 2005. ▼ Men’s volleyball attendance was ranked third nationally in 2006. ▼ Contributions to Athletics have increased by 50 percent from 2002 to 2004. ▼ The Gates Sports Center and baseball field have undergone significant renovations. ▼ Men’s and women’s golf were added as sponsored sports. ▼ In cooperation with IPFW Alumni Relations and the Indiana–Purdue Student Government Association, IPFW’s Homecoming tradition was created. With these successes, Pope has always focused on the student component of the IPFW student-athlete. Pope’s departmental goal of a 3.0 grade-point average (GPA) has been reached for the past three years. The IPFW softball, tennis, cross country, and track teams have earned All-Academic honors from their respective associations. IPFW Athletics graduates its student-athletes at a rate that is double that of the IPFW all-campus rate. Pope has a B.A. from Purdue University and a J.D. from Indiana University. He has been a member of the bar of the State of Indiana for 27 years. Pope and his wife, Julie, are the proud parents of their two sons, Brent and Brad.

Head Coach Kelley Hartley Hutton IPFW Head Women’s Volleyball Coach Kelley Hartley Hutton directed the ’Dons to a 24–6 overall record for their third consecutive 20-plus win season in 2005—all this in just its fifth year of Division I competition. That standing was good for 24th place in the nation in winning percentage (.800), while the squad was also among the nation’s best in digs per game (33rd, 17.85 dpg). This stellar campaign opened with eight straight wins, including titles at the Hofstra and Western Illinois Invitationals. The ’Dons were ranked as a top 10 team in the Midwest Region. Hartley Hutton enters her eighth season at IPFW, boasting a 146–73 (.666) record and a career record of 293–140 (.677) during a 12-year career. She ranks fifth in winning percentages among NCAA head coaches with more than five years experience at a four-year college, but fewer than five years in Division I. She came to IPFW in 1999 after serving one year at Robert Morris University, where she rebuilt that program. In just one year, her recruiting class led the Colonials to a Northeast Conference championship and an NCAA Tournament berth in 1999, redeeming a seventh place league finish the year before. Here, she has led the ’Dons through a transition to the serious Division I volleyball force it is now. She directed IPFW to a 2000 regular-season championship its last year in Division II, competing in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and compiled an overall record of 23–7 that season. In 2001, the ’Dons first year of Division I play, they posted a 13–14 mark followed by a 16–18 season in 2002—just shy of the .500 mark again. In 2003, the ’Dons rolled to a 22–10 record. In 2004, they improved to a 24–10 record. The ’Dons ended the 2004 season ranked 13th in the Midwest Region, and Hartley Hutton was voted “Independent Coach of the Year” for the second-straight year after leading the ’Dons to their second Independent Tournament title in three tries. Her players represent a competitive force in the classroom as well. Hartley Hutton’s team turned in a combined 3.6 grade-point average last fall, while juggling a hectic travel schedule. Middle blocker Claire Jackson, now a senior, earned Independent All-Academic recognition and has achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA in her biology major for six straight semesters. For the educational and cultural experience of her student-athletes’ lifetime, Hartley Hutton took the squad to Brazil in May 2003 for competitions, tourist excursions, and team bonding. It also meant “going home” for Graduate Assistant Coach Fabiana Souza (a native of Belo Horizonte, Brazil) and playing in front of her family in an IPFW jersey. Souza shattered IPFW’s career record for kills setting it at 2,305. The previous record stood at 1,895. She repeated as Independent Offensive Player of the Year in 2005. She was 16th in the nation in kills per game (4.94 kpg). Off the court, Big Brothers/Big Sisters is Hartley Hutton’s favorite nonprofit organization. She has made time to mentor an area “little” since 2002, a relationship she cherishes. IPFW women’s volleyball matches are standard fall events for the organization’s First Friends Program. After those matches, Hartley Hutton and her team use this as an opportunity to talk to area youth about the importance of education and setting goals. A 1991 graduate from the University of Toledo, Hartley Hutton played four years for the Rockets, serving as captain her junior and senior years. She earned an M.S. in sports administration from Bowling Green State University in 1993 while working at the Mid-American Conference office. After completing a one-year NCAA internship with the MAC, she was appointed to a full-time position in 1992. She and her husband, Craig Hutton, were married in February 2004 after meeting at IPFW. They reside in Fort Wayne with their dog, Sir Robert Marley.

Assistant Coach Stephen Florio Stephen Florio begins his fourth season as assistant volleyball coach at IPFW. Florio has seven years of NCAA Division I coaching experience, as well as eight years of high school, junior high school, and USAV Juniors coaching experience. Most recently, Florio has served as head coach of the Great Lakes High Performance team at the USA High Performance Tournament for the past two summers. He also serves as the AVCA Assistant Coaches Representative for Division I Independent Women’s Volleyball teams. Florio played two years of volleyball at Nassau (N.Y.) Community College in 1994 and 1995 before transferring to Division I St. Francis College (Pa.) and playing two years for the Red Flash. At Nassau, he helped the Lions to a regional championship in 1994 and a runner-up spot in 1995. At St. Francis, Florio served as a defensive specialist for the Red Flash. Prior to IPFW, Florio served four years as an assistant coach at Hofstra University. While at Hofstra, Florio assisted in leading the Pride to two conference championships and two consecutive NCAA tournament appearances in 1999 and 2000. Florio’s eight years of high school coaching experience is highlighted by five years as the head coach of the boys’ varsity volleyball team for Division Ave./MacArthur High School in Levittown, N.Y. During that time, Florio led the team to its first ever playoff appearance in 2000 and a Nassau County Conference II–A Championship in 2003. Along with winning a conference championship, Florio was named Conference Coach of the Year in 2003. Florio also has eight years of USAV Girls Juniors coaching experience. In New York, he coached for the Long Island Big Apple Volleyball Club for two years and the Creole Big Apple Volleyball Club for three years. Florio is currently the girls 18-under coach and 9’s and 10’s training coach for the Fort Wayne Volleyball Club. Since the summer 1993, Florio has lent his experience to camps and clinics at the University of Illinois, Ball State University, Bowling Green State University, Syracuse, Hofstra, IPFW, the Premier Elite Camp, World Volleyball Training Center, and the Great Lakes High Performance Camp. Florio received his bachelor’s degree in marketing from St. Francis (Pa.) in 1998 and his master’s degree in secondary education in 2002 from Dowling College. He and his wife, Julie, recently celebrated their second wedding anniversary.

Graduate Assistant Coach Fabiana Souza Fabiana Souza enters her first year as a graduate assistant coach at IPFW this season. Souza graduated with her bachelor’s degree in communication in Aug. 2005 and started working towards her master’s degree in communication the same month. Souza currently holds the career kill record with 2,305 kills in her four-year career at IPFW. In 2004, she set a new, single-season record for kills with 621. The previous record stood for 20 years. Souza finished her collegiate career nationally ranked in kills per game, averaging 4.94/game and was 16th in the nation. Souza finished with an average of 4.88 kills/game, 3.04 digs/game, and a .237 hitting percentage for her career. Souza was named MVP of three tournaments in her career and was named to eight All-Tournament teams. She was named to the All-Independent team in 2003, 2004, and 2005 and was Offensive Player of the Year in 2003 and 2005. In 2004, IPFW won the Independent Tournament, and Souza was named tournament MVP.

Athletic Trainer Scott Knerr Scott Knerr begins his seventh year as associate athletic trainer at IPFW. He received a bachelor’s degree in athletic training from Ball State University in 1995. Knerr completed a master’s degree in sports management at the University of Utah. While at Utah, he was a graduate assistant athletic trainer with the Ute’s women’s soccer team and nationally ranked women’s gymnastics team. Knerr resides in Fort Wayne with his wife Jen, and his children: Parker (5), Claire (3), and Liam (1).

A Look Ahead... The Mastodons are on a rampage, achieving 20+ wins each year during the past three seasons. This year’s senior class boasts a 70–26 career record at IPFW with a .729 winning percentage. Nicole Howell, Claire Jackson, and Amanda Pfister must now be the leaders and push once again for 20+ wins for their final season. The Mastodons finished the 2005 season nationally ranked— twice. IPFW was 24th in the nation in winning percentage (.800) and 33rd in digs/game with 17.85. The ’Dons also excelled in the classroom, boasting a team 3.6 GPA last fall while juggling a hectic travel schedule. In the Independent circle, the Mastodons received many accolades. They had three ladies named Players of the Week in 2005 for a total of seven times. Fabiana Souza took the offensive honors four times, while Nicole Howell was named once. Peachy Jankowski was named defensive POW twice in 2005. Academically, Claire Jackson and Ashlee Roth were named to the All-Academic team. Souza once again was named to the All-Independent First Team, while Erika Leitzke and Nicole Howell were named to the Second Team. Jackson took Honorable Mention for All-Independent. Souza rounded out her career on the All-Tournament Team and was the Offensive Player of the Year for a second time. Setters IPFW boasts a young pair of setters for 2006 after graduating two seniors, Ashlee Roth and Erika Leitzke. The Mastodons must replace 1,171 assists last year alone in starting setter Leitzke. The transfer from Troy State made an instant impact after sitting out her junior year. Sophomore Jessica Dominiak (Waterville, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy) stepped up during spring ball after only seeing action in 27 matches last year as a freshman with 182 assists. Shannon Reuter (Tiffin, Ohio/Tiffin Columbian) comes in after sitting out most of her senior year at Tiffin Columbian due to injury, but her résumé speaks for itself. Reuter was the District 6 Player of the Year in 2004 and was named 1st Team All-District 6 in 2003 and 2004.

Junior Peachy Jankowski (Fraser, Mich./Fraser) returns after yet another strong season. Jankowski dug up 418 balls in 2005, leading the way for the ’Dons, averaging 3.83 digs/game. Sophomore Christine Simon (Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green) did not see much floor time in 2005, but she made the most of the time she was in, digging 53 balls in 57 games. Freshman Jamie Schwartz (Decatur, Ind./South Adams) will be thrown into the ’Dons depth at libero this season after a successful four-year career at South Adams in volleyball and basketball. Schwartz set a new school record in assists at South Adams and received numerous All-ACAC accolades. She was a member of the Indiana All-Star team in 2006. Outside Hitters

Liberos

The ’Dons hold the most depth in their outside hitters. With four returning, Nicole Howell, Amanda Pfister, Cynara Martins, and Kylee Hervey, and a newcomer, transfer student Patricia Azevedo, the outsides look to be the most dangerous this year. Last year’s outsides combined for a total of 703 kills and 679 digs.

IPFW holds what many teams may not, three liberos. Many may see it as a problem, but with a junior, sophomore, and freshman all fighting for one spot, ball handling skills and strategy will be key.

averaging 2.93 kills/game and 3.03 digs/game last year. Howell was second only to graduated senior Fabiana Souza in kills.

Pfister (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) doubled her kills in just one year. She knocked down 200 last year, averaging 2.30 per game, while only seeing action in 87 games.

The ’Dons will once again face another tough schedule with a lot of road trips and invitationals. First up is Ball State where the ’Dons will face the Cardinals, Michigan State, and Xavier before they head home for their first home match against Western Michigan. The ladies will also compete in the Omni William Penn Duquesne/RMU Invitational, Michigan/Nike Challenge, and the Utah Valley State/LaQuinta Invitational in September.

Martins (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Centro Educational Miniero) was a serious threat in the back row last year, posting 333 digs, second only to Jankowski, with an average of 3.14 per game. Martins recorded 221 kills in 2005, third on the team, with an average of 2.08 per game. Hervey (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) averaged just 1.25 kills/game last year after seeing limited action in 24 games. Azevedo (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Western Nebraska Community College) is yet another Belo Horizonte native to grace IPFW’s court. Azevedo set the mark high at WNCC, setting the single season career kill record with 851 kills in 2004 and was tied for 6th in hitting percentage in a single season with .374. She also set the career mark in kills with 1,514 in two seasons. Middle Hitters The Mastodons took their biggest hit in the line-up in the middle. Fabiana Souza’s (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Centro Univ. de Belo Horizonte) graduation created a void of 524 kills from the 2005 season. Souza was nationally ranked 16th in kills per game with 4.94. Overall, she set the new school mark in career kills with 2,305.

The ’Dons will host their seventh IPFW Invitational in 2006. Only once since Head Coach Kelley Hartley Hutton has taken over the reigns has IPFW not hosted a tournament (2001). This year’s tournament will feature five teams: Robert Morris, South Dakota State, North Florida, Texas Pan American, and IPFW. IPFW will host the majority of its home matches in October with four and round out the season with in-state rival IUPUI on November 3 at the Gates Sports Center before heading to the Independent Women’s Volleyball Championships hosted by North Dakota State. The 2006 season proves to be yet another opportunity where the ’Dons could post 20+ wins.

Claire Jackson (Fort Wayne, Ind./South Side) rounds out her senior year as a solid middle. Jackson is currently on the watch for the block-assist career record. She needs just 40 to match the current leader. Jackson has steadily improved her game during her years at IPFW. Last year, she posted 193 kills and had a .209 hitting percentage, averaging 1.84 kills per game. Academically, she has worked toward a perfect 4.0 GPA for the past six semesters in biology. Jessica Miller (Fort Wayne, Ind./Concordia) stepped right into the Mastodon system as a freshman. In 107 games, she posted 201 kills and a .215 hitting percentage. Miller was also a force in the blocking department with 12 solos and 68 assists. Elly Bahlman (Union City, Mich./Coldwater) posted a .224 hitting percentage in her limited court time in 2005. #2 Senior Nicole Howell – Outside Hitter Fort Wayne, Ind. – Bishop Luers 2005 Season Howell has improved her attacking numbers once again after posting a .240 hitting percentage and 252 kills with an average of 2.93 per game. Howell recorded 261 digs, averaging 3.03 per game along with 24 service aces. Howell was second on the team in total kills and kills per game. She recorded “double-doubles” in nine matches her junior year and was named Division I Independent Offensive Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 27 and was named to the AllIndependent Second Team. 2004 Season Howell recorded 223 kills (1.94 per game) in her sophomore campaign. She also had 19 service aces, 276 digs (2.4 per game), 4 block solos, 19 block assists, and 255.5 points. Howell was also named to the IPFW AllTournament Team. 2003 Season “The Hammer” made an instant impact in 2003 with 220 kills (2.34 p/g) and 116 digs (1.23 p/g). Howell also banged out 41 service aces and was named to the Independent All-Freshmen Team. Prep Leader of two Indiana 3A State runner-up teams. Howell was a member of the Indiana All-Star team her junior and senior seasons. Named to the All-SAC team three years. In her junior and senior seasons, Howell was selected to the All-State team. She was the Prep Sports Volleyball Player of the Year her senior year. Howell currently holds the Indiana state record for most aces in a season with 140. Personal Born June 8, 1985. A little more about Nicole... Best personal moment in volleyball: It was in high school during my junior year when we were unranked and we beat the number two team in the state to go to the state finals. Superstitions: I have to have my stuffed animal with me when I fly or I think I’m going to die. I have a lot more. I can be very superstitious sometimes. What do you look forward to this season? Winning! And just having another good season and having fun with everyone on the team. If you could travel anywhere, where would you go? Back to California. I love it there. Maybe somewhere in Europe, but I don’t ever want to fly over an ocean. If you could have any superpower what would it be? To call timeouts like Zach Morris does on Saved By the Bell. What is your most prized possession? I don’t really have one, but if someone stole my stuffed animal dog, I would beat them up. #4 Claire Jackson Senior – Middle Hitter Fort Wayne, Ind. – South Side

2005 Season Blocking was once again Jackson’s bread and butter, but she stepped it up in other areas as well in her junior season. In 105 games, Jackson clipped a .204 hitting percentage on 193 kills and an average of 1.84 kills/game. In blocking, Jackson led the ’Dons with 130 total blocks (27 solos, 103 assists). Jackson had one “double-double” this season against Belmont with 10 kills and 12 total blocks. She was also named to the All-Academic Division I Team and received honorable mention for the All-Independent Volleyball Team. Jackson received AllTournament Team honors at the Western Illinois/Pizza Hut Invitational and the Campus USA Credit Union Class hosted by the University of Florida. 2004 Season Jackson saw action in 120 games to make an impact in 2004. She recorded 170 kills (1.42 per game) and 44 digs (0.37 per game). Blocking was where she was the most impressive, recording 25 solos and 129 assists to lead the team in total blocks with 154. She averaged 1.28 blocks per game. 2003 Season Appeared in 23 matches in 2003. Put down 49 kills and combined for 43 total blocks (eight solo). Jackson also totaled 75.5 points. High School Named Second Team All-SAC her junior year and to the First Team her senior season. Two years straight, Claire was named most improved player at South Side High, and was voted team MVP her senior year. Academically, Jackson also excelled. She was an AP Scholar, received an Academic Honors Diploma, and graduated in the top five of her class. #7 Amanda Pfister Senior – Outside Hitter Auburn, Ind. – DeKalb 2005 Season Pfister doubled her career kills her junior season after posting 200 in just 87 games. She averaged 2.3 per game and had a .205 hitting percentage. Pfister recorded one “double-double” at Western Illinois with 10 kills and 10 digs. She also had 10 service aces and 72 digs in her limited time on the court. 2004 Season Pfister saw limited time but made good use of it. In 85 games, she recorded 93 kills (1.09 per game), 65 digs, 5 block solos, and 28 block assists. 2003 Season Pfister hit triple digits in kills her freshman season (107), averaging 1.34 per game. She also had 48 digs (0.80 p/g) and 16 total blocks. High School Named Second Team All-NHC as a sophomore and First Team her junior and senior seasons. A little more about Amanda... Why is your number 7? I have always liked the number 7. What are you looking forward to this season? A great record— the same or better than last year. I am excited about our challenging schedule. If you had three wishes what would you use them for? If I had three wishes, I would only use one. I would ask for my brother Joel to have the ability to walk. Other than volleyball, I’m also really good at... playing the piano and decorating. #3 Peachy Jankowski Junior – Libero Fraser, Mich. – Fraser 2005 Season After being thrown to the wolves her freshman campaign, Jankowski once again led the ’Dons in digs with 418 in 109 games, averaging 3.83 per game. She also posted 11 service aces and 39 assists. Jankowski was named Independent Defensive Player of the Week, twice (Oct. 18 and Oct. 25). Jankowski was named to the IPFW Invitational All-Tournament Team. 2004 Season As a true freshman, Jankowski stepped into the libero position with ease. She recorded 458 digs, averaging 3.79 per game and 23 service aces. Prep Jankowski played for head coach Kim Argiri-Slone at Fraser High School. She was named All-State First Team, All-County, and All-Conference her senior year. Jankowski helped the Ramblers to a 2004 Class A State Championship. Personal Born December 1, 1985. #8 Cynara Martins Junior – Outside Hitter Belo Horizonte, Brazil – Centro Educational Mineiro 2005 Season Martins was a force not only offensively, but defensively as well in her sophomore campaign. She posted 221 kills with an average of 2.08 per game and dug up 333 balls. Martins posted “double-doubles” in 10 matches this season. She was named to All-Tournament teams at the Hofstra/Asics Invitational and IPFW’s Invitational. 2004 Season Martins made an instant impact in 2004. She recorded 292 kills (2.75 k/g), 335 digs (3.16), and 35 service aces. Prep Martins is a 2002 graduate of the Colegio Anchieta Newton Paiva. She was an outside hitter, playing for Coach Robson. SO – Libero – Bowling Green, Ohio – Bowling Green 2005 Season: Simon saw limited time in her freshman campaign as the back-up libero. She posted 53 digs and two assists in 57 games. Prep: Simon was a two-year letter-winner and started both years on the Bowling Green varsity volleyball team. She recieved District 7-Honorable Mention, and NLL second team her senior year. #10 Jessica Dominiak

2005 Season: Dominiak stepped right into the Mastodon system in her freshman campaign. In 75 games played, she posted 182 assists, averaging 2.43 per game. Dominiak is not only a confident setter, but she attacked well, too. She was 26–9–62, posting a .274 hitting percentage and averaging 0.35 kills per game. Dominiak recorded one “double-double” against South Dakota State on Oct. 8 with 10 digs and 12 assists. Prep: Dominiak was a three year varsity player while at St. Ursula Academy. She has also competed in the Junior Olympic Girls Nationals for the past four years. In 2004, Dominiak was a member of the Division 1 State Championship team. Personal: Born February 1, 1987. #11 Kylee Hervey SO – Outside Hitter – Indianapolis – Pike 2005 Season: Hervey saw action in 24 games in her freshman campaign. She connected for 30 kills and averaged 1.25 kills/game. Defensively, she dug up 13 balls and recorded seven block assists in her limited play time. Prep: While at Pike High School, Hervey excelled in the classroom and on the court. Academically, she was on the honor roll and a member of the National Honors Society. Other than volleyball, I’m really good at… discus. I came really close, like a foot, from the high school record (129 feet, 11 inches is my best).

#1 Shannon Reuter

FR – Setter – Tiffin, Ohio – Tiffin Columbian

Prep: Reuter sat out her senior year due to injury but excelled in the three years prior. She was a varsity letterwinner for three years at Tiffin Columbian. She was named to the 1st Team All-District 6 in 2003 and 2004 and was District 6 Player of the Year in 2004. She was named 1st Team All-Northern Ohio League in 2003 and 2004. In the Premier Volleyball Club, she received the Golden Hands Award in 2004, Outstanding Junior Award in 2005, and the “Gain the Respect” Award in 2006. Academically, Reuter was on the honor roll all four years, a scholar-athlete, and a member of the National Honor Society. Personal: Born August 9, 1988. Daughter of Jim and Gina Reuter. She has one sister, Jamie. Reuter plans on majoring in Spanish at IPFW. What are you looking forward to this season? JR – Outside Hitter – Belo Horizonte, Brazil – Western Nebraska Community College

At Western Nebraska: Azevedo was an All-American in 2004 and 2005 and was Female Athlete of the Year 2004–05. Named MVP, in 2005–06. Was named to the All-Tournament team at Nationals in ’04 and ’05. Made it to All-Regionals in ’04 and ’05 and was named to the All-Tournament team both years. Azevedo holds the singleseason kills record at WNCC with 851 kills in 2004 and the career kills record with 1,514 kills over two seasons. Personal: Born October 24, 1985. Daughter of Claudio Luiz Bezerra de Azevedo and Iraci da Costa Azevedo. She has one sister, Priscila Costa Azevedo. Azevedo plans on majoring in general studies at IPFW. Superstitions: I always step on the volleyball court with my right foot.

FR – Middle Hitter – Willshire, Ohio – Parkway High

Prep: Roehm was a member of the State Runner-up Parkway High team. She was named to the 1st Team MAC All-Conference, the 1st Team All-Ohio, and was the District 8 Player of the Year. She is a McDonald’s Scholar-Athlete. She holds three school records at Parkway: kills, blocks, and hitting percentage. Academically, she is a member of the National Honor Society and was in the Top 10 of her class. She took home three academic awards in business, history, and science. Personal: Born August 12, 1988. Daughter of Roland and Teresa Roehm. She has five sisters, Holly, Andrea, Jessica, Kaitlin, and Haley and one brother, Robert. Roehm plans on majoring in dental hygeine at IPFW. Most embarrassing moment in volleyball: When I ran back-pedaling to get a ball, and I couldn’t stop myself. I back-pedaled across the whole court before finally falling on my butt. Everyone laughed.

#13 Jamie Schwartz

FR – Libero – Decatur, Ind. – Adams Central

Prep: Schwartz was a two-sport athlete at Adams Central. In volleyball, she was a member of the State finalist team in 2004 and 2006 and was named to the 1st Team All-State in 2006. Schwartz was also named to the Indiana All-Star team in ’06. She set a new school record in assists in 2006. In the ACAC, she was named to the All-Conference team in ’05 and ’06, All-Conference Honorable Mention in ’04, and Academic AllConference in ’06. She also received the Jet Award. In basketball, Schwartz set the school steals record and received the HEART award in ’04 and ’06. In the ACAC, she was named to the All-Conference Honorable Mention team in ’05, the All-Conference team in ’04 and ’06, and the Academic All-Conference in ’06. Schwartz was also on the honor roll at Adams Central. Personal: Born May 25, 1987. Daughter of Matt and Shelly Schwartz. She has one sister, Jeana, and two brothers, Jarod and Josh. South Dakota State took the championship title in 2006 in Greeley, Colorado.
