W E LC O M E Dear Readers,

November offers a time of reflection as we remember. This year has changed everything; our work, social lives, hobbies, past-times and sports have had adjustments. We have been able to re-evaluate what is important, how we live our lives and the way forward. Wartime punctuates history all over the world. The United Kingdom takes time to remember our fallen comrades on Remembrance Day at the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month.

autumnal walks is a must. Donning a hat is often essential too, what with rain clouds lurking!

With sustainability on the tip of our tongues, ‘Hats at Home’ works hard to add a little drama into your own personal hat collection. With a ‘splash’ question from a reader too, this is an action packed issue!

Military hat designs hold a rich history and have influenced hat designs for centuries; from the tricorn hats to the simple beret, there are many stories woven through history. I have hand-picked a selection of hats used in ceremonial parades, so check in and find out what happens behind the scenes. From function to fabulous, our hat adventure takes a wonderful trip to Australia. In this no-expense-spared voyage, the Hat Channel was able to capture some time with an award-winning milliner, and we can share a few secrets as well! Now it’s beginning to get a bit chilly, we took a trip north to look at how fashion trends are moving forward. With the cold weather setting in jackets are getting warmer, and wrapping up for T H E H ATC H A N N E L . C O M

REMEMBER THEM TOO I was there not everywhere, at least I didn’t die, but some of ours they did so, another body....sigh. Northern Ireland our homeland we don’t expect to fall, for inside your own country, you should never have to cry. To comrades who were wounded there, to comrades who were killed, it was no less dangerous than poppy battlefields. And now we must remember the suffering in previous past, South Korea and Aden, examples of those times. Iraq and Afghan did not work out, for some who served out there, as tough as dying on Falkland, or other places near. Those of us who lived in full, without the sacrifice, we live now to tell you all, of those who paid the price. Death and wounds they happen, wherever the campaign, but let’s remember all of them, never left behind.....no way!

stone is left unturned. Regiments have an exacting and rigorous rehearsal schedule too. Each parade is planned with commanders taking the lead. The detail is second to none. What’s the difference between Fedora and a Homburg?

@laralauder

Independent Image Consultant & Founder of The Sparkle & Shine Club for Ladies who love Colour

A

A fedora is a soft brimmed hat, named after the lead character Princess Fedora. Homburg hats are stiff. The crown and the brim are rigid. Both hats have a centre crease in the crown.

Men and women wear fedora hats now, while very few homburg hats are made in the 21st Century.
