Introduction to IPSF

The International Pharmaceutical Students’ Federation was founded in 1949 by eight pharmacy student associations in London. The Federation now represents around 313,000 pharmacy students and recent graduates in 80 countries worldwide. IPSF is a non-governmental, non-political, and non-religious organisation and is the leading international advocacy organisation of pharmacy students promoting improved public health through provision of information, education, networking, and a range of publication and professional activities.

WELCOME NOTE

Mitchelle Masuko CHAIRPERSON OF THE RECEPTION COMMITTEE

Greetings from the Sunshine City, allow me on behalf of the 62nd IPSF World Congress Reception Committee to thank you sincerely for electing us to host the World Congress. It is a responsibility which we pledge to undertake with commitment and diligence. My name is Mitchelle Masuko, the Chairperson of the Reception Committee and I will be part of the team that is committed to giving you a breath-taking experience at our next congress. The 62nd IPSF World Congress will be held from the 28th of July to the 8th of August under the theme: Navigating through a changing healthcare landscape: Quest for pharmaceutical excellence. In a very dynamic world were change is the only constant, the new generation of pharmacists need to be leaders in innovation and the theme is befitting as we thrive to embrace utilisation of emerging technologies in the health sector. We have a growing, vibrant, motivated and youthful population. The main drive of the various workshops lined up is to equip participants with critical skills that will be necessary to drive the World’s health transformation. Aside from all the serious business the congress is also a platform for us to meet new friends, exchange cultural experiences and have fun whilst translating ideas into meaningful practise. In this edition of our newsletter we give you a snippet of what to expect at the World Congress. I hope this gets you all excited and eager to come to Zimbabwe. Viva le Pharmacie Tinotenda, Siyabonga , Thank you

Great Zimbabwe is a ruined city in the southeastern hills of Zimbabwe near Lake Mutirikwe and the city of Masvingo. It was the capital of the Kingdom of Zimbabwe during the country’s Late Iron Age. Construction on the monument by ancestors of the Shona people began in the 11th century and continued until the 15th century. The ruins span an area of 722 hectares (1,780 acres) which, at its peak, could have housed up to 18,000 people. It is recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

It is located in the northwest corner of the country about one hour south of the Mighty Victoria Falls. It became the royal hunting grounds to the Ndebele warrior-king Mzilikazi in the early 19th Century and was set aside as a National Park in 1929. Hwange boasts a tremendous selection of wildlife with over 100 species of mammals and nearly 400 bird species recorded. The elephants of Hwange are world famous and the Park’s elephant population is one of the largest in the world. The Park has three distinctive Camps and administrative offices at Robins, Sinamatella and the largest one at Main Camp.

Bridal Veil Falls forms an ideal picnic site within easy walking distance from the Chimanimani Village. The area is protected by National Parks of Zimbabwe and shows a small, well preserved area of evergreen vegetation, amidst a larger area of high-rainfall Brachystegia woodland. The area does not fall within the quartzite zone of the Chimanimani Mountains and does not have any of the endemic species but it still yields a rich variety of interesting plants, such as Sium repandum, Crotalaria variegata, an unusual form of Eucomis autumnalis and a beautiful grove of the Wild Banana, Ensete ventricosum. You will certainly enjoy your stay in Zimbabwe.

VISA REQUIREMENTS

TO ZIMBABWE

THERE ARE 3 CATEGORIES:

Category A: Countries whose nationals do NOT require a Visa. No action required, you will be granted easy entry at any border post.

Category B: Countries whose nationals are granted a Zimbabwe visa at port of

entry on payment of requisite visa fees. These visas are easiest obtained on your arrival at the Airport or border post. If you get them done via an agency in your home country they will often cost you quite a bit more and be a lot more hassle. These countries are provided with a UNIVISA

Category C: Countries whose nationals are required to apply for and obtain a Zim-

babwe visa prior to travelling. Unfortunately this is a bit of a pain, but you have to apply through an agency or the Zimbabwe High Commission in your home country. Zimbabwe immigration has launched a website where Category C’s can now apply online. Follow this link: https://www.evisa.gov.zw/

The UNIVISA The UNIVISA - standard fee of US$50 – where credit card point of sale facilities are not available at port of entry it is recommended that clients have US$50 available for payment. Validity – the KAZA UNIVISA will be valid for 30 days as long as you remain in Zimbabwe and Zambia and clients can cross into Zimbabwe/Zambia as frequently as they like within the 30 day period. (If the UNIVISA is obtained at Victoria Falls and you cross over to Zimbabwe at Kariba or Chirundu or vice versa the visa shall be valid) It also covers those who visit Botswana for day trips through the Kazangula Borders – it will not be valid if staying in Botswana overnight, in this case you would need to purchase a new Visa. The UNIVISA cannot be extended however you can buy a new UNIVISA (up to 3 per year). You do NOT have to by a UniVisa you can purchase normal single and double entry visas if they suit you better - see Zimbabwe visa page Example 1: US passport holder only coming to Zimbabwe, not going across to Zambia. Better to buy a single entry visa @ $30 Example 2: US passport holder staying in Zimbabwe but going to Zambia for a day activity. Normal visa price $45 double entry visa to Zimbabwe + $20 Zambia day tripper visa = $65. Therefore cheaper to buy UniVisa at $50 covers all entries.
