ABOUT IPSF • The International Pharmaceutical Students’ Federation (IPSF) was founded in 1949 by eight (8) pharmacy student associations in London, United Kingdom. • The Federation now represents approximately 500,000 pharmacy students and recent graduates in over 100 countries worldwide. • IPSF is the leading international advocacy organization for pharmacy and pharmaceutical science students. • IPSF promotes improved public health through the provision of information, education, and networking opportunities as well as a range of publications and professional activities
ABOUT IPSF African Regional Office(AfRO) • IPSF African Regional Office (AfRO) was established in the 54th IPSF World Congress held in Cluj-Napoca, Romania in August 2008 • Its establishment was voted in as a way of tackling the importance of decentralizing IPSF work into regions • IPSF-AfRO organizes an annual symposium called the African Pharmaceutical Symposium (AfPS) • Many delegates from all over the continent and beyond converge at the host nation to network, brainstorm, and chart new paths for the pharmacy profession

ABOUT TAPSA-TANZANIA • TAPSA is an association uniting all Pharmacy students in Tanzania and is a full member of IPSF.
• The association was founded in 1987 formerly known as ADUPS which became TAPSA in 2007. • It has 20 chapters from Universities and Collages from Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar. • IPSF AfPS 2022 will be the 10th edition for IPSF African Regional Office Symposia and it will be hosted by TAPSA.
ABOUT AfPS 2022 • Leaders-In-Training (LIT): Participants will get to participate in leadership training and gain communication skills, strategic planning skills, etc.. with the purpose of raising a new breed of African leaders. • Main Symposium: This is the main part of the Symposium. Here, delegates will participate in plenary sessions, listen to experienced speakers from all across the globe, partake in clinical skill events, compounding events, and public health outreaches. The Regional Assembly will also be held during this part of the symposium. • Post Symposium Tour (PST): Here, the delegates will travel to various Tanzanian destinations and get to see the beauty and history of the country.

ABOUT AfPS 2022 To ensure that the symposium is of a high quality, we envision to have: • Key note speeches on meticulously selected subthemes and panel discussions. • There will also be workshops on patient counselling, and clinical skills events and competitions and training pharmacists on first aid. • Furthermore, there will be poster exhibitions, public health campaigns, excursions and social events.
OBJECTIVES 1. To address the possible challenges and solutions in pharmaceutical industry in era of technological advancement. 2. To raise awareness of pharmacy student on roles of technologies in reshaping/reforming the pharmaceutical sector. 3. To improve leadership skills in the pharmacy profession. 4. To expose pharmacy students and young pharmacists on available opportunities in the pharmaceutical industry.
5. To exchange and embrace experiences related to advances in science and technology in pharmacy among the participants
EXPECTED OUTCOMES (1/2) •
The symposium will dwell on broadening the pharmacy students’ knowledge on various issues related to the development of science and technology in the pharmaceutical sector.

Information on the progress and role played by herbal medicines in diseases management will provide insights on opportunities available for further expansion of herbal medicine in healthcare.

The main symposium will focus on potential measures for promoting and encouraging innovation.
EXPECTED OUTCOMES (2/2) •
The symposium will equip students and pharmacists with know-how and skills of pharmacogenomics in patient-centered care.

The public awareness campaign will help to raise awareness on two global health threats that are antimicrobial resistance and communicable diseases.

The competition events will improve pharmacy students’ clinical problem solving, verbal and written communication skills and promote the role of pharmacist in patient care.

SYMPOSIUM VENUE The main symposium sessions, workshops, regional assembly, and other parallel events will be held at the Julius Nyerere International Conventional Center (JNICC) located in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

EXCURSION NATIONAL MUSEUM OF TANZANIA • Delegates will get time to visit and appreciate Tanzanian History all the way since colonialism to date.
PST - ZANZIBAR STONE TOWN Former palaces and Arab mansions along the twisting streets of Stone Town hint at a grander age for this port city on the western coast of Zanzibar.
