This is a huge cultural year for Ipswich and here we are bringing you 20 fantastic events for 2012. The London Games just adds to the fun in Ipswich as we offer the award-winning Ipswich Arts Festival, the only Olympic Torch Relay stop-over in Suffolk, the return to the county of the Mildenhall Dish and another exhibition at the Art School from the Saatchi Gallery. We hope this inspires you to have a taste of what Ipswich has to offer. This artefact from the 4th Century is a priceless Romano-British treasure that was unearthed on a Suffolk farm during the Second World War.
It is 1536. The woman who changed the world forever by capturing the heart of a king, faces trial with her brother George for adultery, incest and treason.
Seventy years on, it is coming back to Suffolk. This magnificent and finely decorated silver dish will be on view at Christchurch Mansion from April to June thanks to the British Museum. Come and see an important part of Suffolk’s history. www.cimuseums.org.uk Photo: The British Museum

Pulse Festival

This year’s PULSE Fringe Festival programme will be announced on 13 April. PULSE is a multi-disciplinary festival focusing on new and innovative approaches to the arts. The Festival provides a platform for the development and presentation of new work by regional, British and international artists of vision, nurturing artistic ambition and excellence across a range of art forms including theatre, dance, comedy, music, event led visual arts, participatory theatre, physical theatre and, this year, will include children’s theatre. www.pulsefringe.com

Thousands of people from all over Suffolk are expected to come along to Christchurch Park to sing, cheer and dance at the county’s only overnight stop. Harvest at Jimmy's

Friday 7 until Sunday 9 September TV farmer and celebrity Jimmy Doherty once again hosts Harvest at Jimmy's as a four-day event, from Friday 7th until Sunday 9th September at his farm just outside Ipswich.

Are you up to the challenge of this 13.1-mile course in and around Ipswich to help raise money for charities? A partnership between Larking Gowen Chartered Accountants, Ipswich JAFFA running club and Ipswich Borough Council, the Larking Gowen Ipswich Half-Marathon is ideal for club runners, individuals and novices. The big-name acts are still under wraps but Harvest at Jimmy's is a fantastic attraction for all the family. In fact, a visit to the Wherstead farm is a great experience any day of the year! Everyone has fun at Harvest so there will be lots of new and improved children's activities. Set on a real working farm, the festival has an adventure play area and a dedicated programme of kids' entertainment, including den building, face painting, animal tours, cooking lessons, craft workshops and a buttery house.
