Summer of Love!

Ipswich is in the mood to celebrate... and what a summer it’s going to be! There is so much going on during this dazzling diamond year. As well as Ip-art Festival, the most popular summer festival in the area, Ipswich has the New Wolsey Theatre’s PULSE Festival, which begins on Monday 25th May. Ipswich then celebrates the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with street parties, a Cornhill lunch and a picnic in Christchurch Park on Jubilee Weekend, 2nd to 5th June. You just

have time to catch your breath before the county’s biggest day out, the Suffolk Show at Trinity Park (Thursday 7th and Friday 8th June). The Maritime Ipswich Festival returns 18th and 19th August, with the Waterfront putting on the style as thousands of people are set to gather to see the town at its best. The Ipswich Beer Festival is again taking part in the Maritime Festival.

Chantry Park is the venue for the biggest concert of the summer - the fab four of JLS (with super support act Alexandra Burke). The date is 26th August so get along to the Tourist Information Centre or log on to www.ipswichregent.com for tickets.

Created by Punchdrunk, award-winning internationally acclaimed pioneers in immersive theatre, The Crash of The Elysium is a live Doctor Who adventure in which the audience is the star of the show.

Tom MacRae writer and co-creator of The Crash of The Elysium says, “The show is unlike anything else you have ever experienced in the world of Doctor Who. This is your story, your mission, you are the hero. Everything depends on you. If you don’t turn up, the world does not get saved.”

Fri Sun

The madness and brilliance of Doctor Who could not find a better theatrical partnership than Punchdrunk, and slamming these two incendiary giants together has produced the most exciting hour of entertainment anyone could ever wish for.

Punchdrunk are theatrical wizards. Their shows are a stunning blend of magic, excitement, adventure and impossibility. Once you enter a Punchdrunk show, the laws of physics are switched off until you leave again. There is no stage, there is no comfy seating, there is no division between the world of the audience and the world of the show. You are at the heart of the action, you drive the story forward. No two shows will ever be the same, no individual adventure will ever be repeated.

Unsettling Stories

With short-listings for the Man Booker Prize and BBC National Short Story Award in common, M.J Hyland and Sarah Hall also share a formidable talent for writing. But there the similarity ends. Sarah Hall has a poet’s ear for metaphor, rhythm and the nuances of voice. Her new short story collection, along with her four novels, are distinguished by a rich, sensual intensity, showing an acute understanding of the Cumbrian landscape and its people.

Following on from last year’s award-winning five-star hit show Big Bag of Boom, New Art Club bring you a brand-new interactive, physical, meaning-fuelled and music-infused comedy experience. During the show the audience are split into two villages and are encouraged to compete in a series of wild games and activities. Around this, Roden and Shenton weave an hilarious tale (based on a true story) about a rural conflict over the renaming of a train station. With an exhilarating and eclectic soundtrack, including Roots Manuva, The White Stripes, Kraftwerk, Penguin Café Orchestra, and some live experimental physical beat-boxing, Quiet Act of Destruction is a comedy experience pitched somewhere between a game show, a stand-up show and a church garden party.
