CARNIVAL
According to Hungarian folk traditions Carnival time – starting on the Twelfth Night – is the time for happy feasts with music when sometimes girls and boys wear funny or scary masks to amuse and scare each other. Afterwards having had enough of the long winter and rough weather they used to organize mystic winter “funerals” to frighten the winter away and make room for the long awaited, sunny spring. The themed week-ends around Carnival offer you an insight into these customs.
Walking among 100-200 year old buildings, visitors have the unique experience of the past. Vernacular architecture, interior design and lifestyle of different regions of Hungary is presented in the Museum through cosy interiors of village houses furnished with original furniture, traditionally cultivated kitchen gardens and workshops.
