Abstract- A graph đ?‘Ž order đ?’? is said to have a đ?’Œâˆ’prime labeling, wheređ?’Œ is a positive integer, if the vertices can be labeled with positive integers from đ?’Œ to đ?’Œ + |đ?’?| − đ?&#x;? such that each pair of adjacent vertices are relatively prime. In this work, a consecutive cyclic đ?’Œ – prime labeling for ladder graphs is given under certain conditions. Furthermore, a new graph called Crab graph is introduced and a prime labeling is discussed for it. Indexed Terms- Crab Graph, Ladder Graph, đ?’Œ-prime labeling, prime labeling. I.

In our previous researches prime labeling for Tripartite graphs, Roach graph and Scorpion graph have been introduced. Present work focuses on đ?‘˜ – prime labeling for ladder graphs which is analogous to those stated by A. H. Berlineer et al. in [2], where they considered prime and coprime labeling for ladder graphs. Furthermore, in this paper, we introduce a new graph named as Crab graph which shows the shape of a crab. This graph is introduced considering the real shape of a crab. Following figure illustrates the Crab graph.

INTRODUCTION

Graph labeling is an active research area in Graph theory due to the numerous number of open problems and vast amount of literature is available on graph labeling for dierent types of graphs. Prime labeling is a special case in graph labeling. A Prime labeling of a simplegraphđ??ş = đ??ş(đ?‘‰, đ??¸), where đ?‘‰ and đ??¸ denotes the set of vertices and edges respectively is a labeling of vertices of đ??ş with distinct integers from the set {1, 2, â‹Ż , đ?‘›} in such a way that the labels of any two adjacent vertices are relatively prime. Such a graph is called a Prime graph. Two integers are said to be relatively prime, if their greatest common divisor (gcd) is 1. The concept of prime labeling was introduced by Roger Entringer around 1980’s where he stated the conjecture; every tree is prime, which is remained unsolved. The theory was developed and discussed by A. Tout et al. in 1982 [4]. Recent work on prime labeling involves for known graphs. In 2011, Vaidya and Prajapati introduced the concept of đ?‘˜âˆ’prime labeling and investigated some results concerning to it [6].

Definition (Ladder Graph) If đ?‘ƒđ?‘› denote the path on đ?‘› vertices, then the Cartesian product đ?‘ƒđ?‘› Ă— đ?‘ƒđ?‘š , where đ?‘š ≤ đ?‘›, is called a grid graph.If đ?‘š = 2, then the graph is called a ladder.[2] II.

Therefore, if a graph of the form đ?‘ƒđ?‘› Ă— đ?‘ƒ2 has a consecutive cyclic đ?‘˜ – prime labeling with any integer đ?‘Ľ(≼ 1) assigned to the top left vertex đ?‘˘1 , then 2(đ?‘Ľ + đ?‘›) − 1 is prime. (đ?‘› ∈ ℤ+)

METHODOLOGY

Theorem A graph of the form đ?‘ƒđ?‘› Ă— đ?‘ƒ2 has a consecutive cyclic đ?‘˜ – prime labeling with any integer đ?‘Ľ(≼ 1) assigned to the top left vertex đ?‘˘1 if and only if 2(đ?‘Ľ + đ?‘›) − 1 is prime (đ?‘› ∈ ℤ+). Proof: The forward implication proved by contrapositive statement.

Consider the vertex labeling of ladder graph đ?‘ƒđ?‘› Ă— đ?‘ƒ2 such that 2(đ?‘Ľ + đ?‘›) − 1 is prime. Claim: Let đ?‘ƒđ?‘› Ă— đ?‘ƒ2 be the ladder with top vertices đ?‘˘1 , đ?‘˘2 , ‌ , đ?‘˘đ?‘› , and bottom vertices đ?‘Ł1 , đ?‘Ł2 , ‌ , đ?‘Łđ?‘› , where đ?‘˘đ?‘– is adjacent to đ?‘Łđ?‘– for 1 ≤ đ?‘– ≤ đ?‘›, đ?‘˘đ?‘– is adjacent to đ?‘˘đ?‘–+1 for 1 ≤ đ?‘– ≤ đ?‘› − 1 and đ?‘Łđ?‘– is adjacent to đ?‘Łđ?‘–+1 for 1 ≤ đ?‘– ≤ đ?‘› − 1. A consecutive cyclic prime labeling of a ladder đ?‘ƒđ?‘› Ă— đ?‘ƒ2 is a prime labeling in which the labels on the vertices wrap around the ladder in a consecutive way. The following vertex labeling gives a consecutive cyclic prime labeling.

Let any đ?‘? ∈ ℤ+and assume that đ?‘Ľ + đ?‘? > 1 for đ?‘? ≼ 0 be a divisor of 2(đ?‘Ľ + đ?‘›) − 1. i.e. (đ?‘Ľ + đ?‘?)â „[2(đ?‘Ľ + đ?‘?) − 1] Consider the following consecutive cyclic labeling đ?‘ƒđ?‘› Ă— đ?‘ƒ2 with the value of đ?‘Ľ assigned to the top left vertex (say đ?‘˘1 ) of the graph,

Since, gcd(đ?‘˜, đ?‘˜ + 1) = 1 for đ?‘˜ > 0 (i.e. consecutive positive numbers are prime), It suffices to check only the vertex labels arising from the end points of first (đ?‘› − 1) vertical edges going from left to right. Observe that each of the (đ?‘› − 1) vertical edges under consideration have vertex labels (đ?‘Ľ + đ?‘?) and [2(đ?‘Ľ + đ?‘›) − 1] − (đ?‘Ľ + đ?‘?) for 1 ≤ đ?‘Ľ < đ?‘Ľ + đ?‘? ≤ đ?‘› − 1and đ?‘? > 0, đ?‘?, đ?‘Ľ ∈ ℤ+ .

Generally, The pair of vertices labeled đ?‘Ľ + đ?‘? and đ?‘Ľ + 2đ?‘› − (đ?‘? + 1) = (2đ?‘Ľ + 2đ?‘› − 1) − (đ?‘Ľ + đ?‘?) are not relatively prime since,(đ?‘Ľ + đ?‘?)â „(2đ?‘Ľ + 2đ?‘› − 1). Hence, the above graph is not prime labeling.

IRE 1702334

Then, gcd(đ?‘Ľ + đ?‘?, [2(đ?‘Ľ + đ?‘›) − 1] − (đ?‘Ľ + đ?‘?)) = gcd(đ?‘Ľ + đ?‘?, 2(đ?‘Ľ + đ?‘›) − 1) = 1, since 2đ?‘Ľ + 2đ?‘› − 1 is prime.

Š MAY 2020 | IRE Journals | Volume 3 Issue 11 | ISSN: 2456-8880 Thus, the graph đ?‘ƒđ?‘› Ă— đ?‘ƒđ?‘› has a consecutive cyclic đ?‘˜ – prime labeling whenever 2(đ?‘Ľ + đ?‘›) − 1 is prime. III.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

The above theorem can be used to give a prime labeling for the Crab graph. First label the middle partof the shell, shown by ď ° in figure 2 using cyclic prime labeling method of the ladder graph. i.e. There are 6 vertices including crab’s eye in a one side of ď °. Therefore, đ?‘› = 6 and 2đ?‘› + 1 = 12 + 1 = 13 which is a prime. Since this part is similar to ladder graph and 2đ?‘› + 1 is prime, this part has a cyclic prime labeling. Starting right side eye(đ?‘˘1 ) as a đ?‘˘1 = 1 and it’s ending with left eye đ?‘Ł1 = 12.

Then, gcd(( ), ( )) = 1, where, = right side vertical vertices and = left side vertical vertices for 1 ≤ ≤ 6 (by cyclic prime labeling theorem) gcd(( ), (+1)) = 1 numbers) for 1 ≤ ≤ 5

gcd(( ), (+1 )) = 1 numbers) for 1 ≤ ≤ 5

Therefore, part labeled by ď ° has a prime labeling. Now, consider crab’s right hand. Let đ?‘˘7 = 13 With the vertices đ?‘˘11 and đ?‘Ł11 joined, this right hand is isomorphic to the ladder graph đ?‘ƒ6 Ă— đ?‘ƒ2 .

Figure 2: Prime Labeling of Crab graph Consider, 2(đ?‘Ľ + đ?‘›) − 1 = 2(13 + 6) − 1 = 37 and Then, there are 6 pair of vertices and đ?‘› = 6 and let this is a prime number. đ?‘˘7 = đ?‘Ľ = 13.

Š MAY 2020 | IRE Journals | Volume 3 Issue 11 | ISSN: 2456-8880 Therefore, consecutive cyclic đ?‘˜ – prime labeling theorem can be used to show that right hand has a đ?‘˜ – prime labeling starting with đ?‘˘7 = 13 and ending with đ?‘Ł7 = đ?‘Ľ + 2đ?‘› − 1 = 13 + 12 − 1 = 24. Then, gcd(đ?‘“(đ?‘˘đ?‘– ), đ?‘“(đ?‘˘đ?‘–+1)) = 1 (consecutive positive numbers) for 7 ≤ đ?‘– ≤ 11, gcd(đ?‘“(đ?‘Łđ?‘– ), đ?‘“(đ?‘Łđ?‘–+1 )) = 1 numbers) for 7 ≤ đ?‘– ≤ 11,

Since, gcd(đ?‘“(đ?‘˘11 ), đ?‘“(đ?‘Ł11)) = 1 edge joining these two vertices can be removed. Therefore, crab’s right hand has a đ?‘˜ – prime labeling. Now, label Crab’s legs as ď Ş,ď Ť,ď Ź,ď ,ď Ž and ď Ż. Since each legs have 4 parts, there are 5 pair of vertices and last pair of vertices are not joined. Then in each leg đ?‘› = 5. In leg ď Ş, đ?‘Ľ = 25 = đ?‘˘13 and since đ?‘› = 5, Using consecutive cyclic đ?‘˜ – prime labeling theorem, 2(đ?‘Ľ + đ?‘›) − 1 = 2(25 + 5) − 1 = 59 (prime number) Therefore, leg ď Ş has a consecutive cyclic prime labeling which ends with đ?‘Ľ + 2đ?‘› − 1 = 25 + 10 − 1 = 34 = đ?‘Ł13 .

đ?‘Ľ = 35 = đ?‘˘18andđ?‘› = 5 Consider, 2(đ?‘Ľ + đ?‘›) − 1 = 2(35 + 5) − 1 = 79 (prime number) Therefore, leg ď Ť has a consecutive cyclic đ?‘˜ – prime labeling, starting labeling with đ?‘˘18 = 35 and ending with đ?‘Ł18 = đ?‘Ľ + 2đ?‘› − 1 = 35 + 10 − 1 = 44 according to the method in the theorem. i.e. gcd(đ?‘“(đ?‘˘đ?‘– ), đ?‘“(đ?‘˘đ?‘–+1 )) = 1 (consecutive positive numbers) for 18 ≤ đ?‘– ≤ 21, gcd(đ?‘“(đ?‘Łđ?‘– ), đ?‘“(đ?‘Łđ?‘–+1 )) = 1 (consecutive numbers) for 18 ≤ đ?‘– ≤ 21,

positive

gcd(đ?‘“(đ?‘˘đ?‘– ), đ?‘“(đ?‘Łđ?‘– )) = 1for18 ≤ đ?‘– ≤ 21 (đ?‘˜ – prime labeling theorem) In leg ď Ź, Let đ?‘Ľ = 45 = đ?‘˘23 and If đ?‘› = 5, then 2(đ?‘Ľ + đ?‘›) − 1 = 2(45 + 5) − 1 = 99 which is not a prime. Therefore, consecutive cyclic đ?‘˜ – prime labeling theorem cannot be applied for leg ď Ź. But, if đ?‘› = 4 (i.e. considering 4 pair of vertices in ladder shape leg), then 2(45 + 4) − 1 = 97 (prime number) Therefore, above theorem can be used to label a part of the leg and other two vertices can be labeled using suitable integers.

Then, gcd(( ), (+1)) = 1 (consecutive positive numbers) for 13 ≤ ≤ 16,

Using theorem, label first 4 pair of vertices starting with đ?‘˘23 = 45 and ending with đ?‘Ł23 = đ?‘Ľ + 2đ?‘› − 1 = 45 + 8 − 1 = 52 and label other remaining two vertices as đ?‘˘27 = 53and đ?‘Ł27 = 54.

gcd(( ), (+1 )) = 1 (consecutive numbers) for 13 ≤ ≤ 16,

gcd(( ), (+1 )) = 1 (consecutive numbers) for 23 ≤ ≤ 25,

Therefore, leg ď Ş has a đ?‘˜ – prime labeling.

Note that,

gcd((26 ), (27 )) = gcd(48,53) = 1

gcd((30 ), (30 )) = gcd(59,64) = 1 Therefore, 30 and 30 vertices can be combined using an edge.

If đ?‘Ł27 = 54, gcd(đ?‘“(đ?‘Ł26 ), đ?‘“(đ?‘Ł27 )) = gcd(49,54) = 1 Therefore, leg ď Ź has a đ?‘˜ − prime labeling. To show leg ď has a đ?‘˜ − prime labeling, similar process as for leg ď Ź can be used. Hence, leg ď has a đ?‘˜ − prime labeling with đ?‘˘38 = 75, đ?‘Ł38 = 82, đ?‘˘42 = 83and đ?‘Ł42 = 84.

Also, gcd(đ?‘“(đ?‘˘29 ), đ?‘“(đ?‘˘30 )) = gcd(56,59) = 1, And gcd(đ?‘“(đ?‘Ł29 ), đ?‘“(đ?‘Ł30 )) = gcd(57,64) = 1. i.e. Right hand side Crab’s leg has a đ?‘˜ – prime labeling. In the left hand side Crab’s swimming leg,

And also, leg ď Ž and ď Ż can be labeled following the same procedure as for leg ď Ş.

Let 33 = 65 = . Consider this swimming leg as a walking leg.

Leg ď Ž has a đ?‘˜ - prime labeling, starting with đ?‘˘43 = đ?‘Ľ = 85 and ending with đ?‘Ł43 = 94.

There are 5 pair of vertices and đ?‘› = 5.

Further, by using the consecutive cyclic đ?‘˜ – prime labeling theorem, leg ď Ż has a đ?‘˜ - prime labeling, starting with đ?‘˘48 = đ?‘Ľ = 95 and ending with đ?‘Ł48 = 104. Now consider the Crab’s swimming legs, In right hand side swimming leg, label the first vertices as đ?‘˘28 = 55 and there is no any consecutive cyclic prime labeling for this leg. Hence, label this leg as a walking leg using the labeling procedure for walking leg ď Ź. Let đ?‘› = 2, then 2(đ?‘Ľ + đ?‘›) − 1 = 2(55 + 2) − 1 = 113 (prime number)

Consider, 2(đ?‘Ľ + đ?‘›) − 1 = 2(65 + 5) − 1 = 139 (prime number) Therefore, consecutive cyclic đ?‘˜ – prime labeling method can be used. Label left side swimming leg starting with đ?‘˘33 = 65 and ending with đ?‘Ł33 = đ?‘Ľ + 2đ?‘› − 1 = 65 + 10 − 1 = 74. Since this is a swimming leg, edge between đ?‘˘36 and đ?‘Ł36 should be removed. Therefore, left side Crab’s swimming leg also has a đ?‘˜ – prime labeling. Note that,

Hence, consecutive cyclic đ?‘˜ – prime labeling method can be used to label first two pair of vertices starting with đ?‘˘28 = 55 and ending with đ?‘Ł28 = đ?‘Ľ + 2đ?‘› − 1 = 55 + 4 − 1 = 58. Remaining vertices can be labeled as a cycle starting with đ?‘˘30 = 59to đ?‘Ł30 = 64.
