9 in memory | izmir izmir university of economics 2017 in cooperation with Beyza SarÄąoÄ&#x;lu

In Memory is an installation dedicated to the abused children. Child abuse is physical or psychological maltreatment of a child by an adult.Every kind of physical or verbal violence, harassment, rape is examples of child abuse. Also, child labors, child brides, children who are used by terror organizations are different kinds of child abuse. The lights that are used in the project, represents both the children and the future. The dimmed light bulbs stand for the children who lost their lives in consequence of an abuse so as to show that if child abuse continues to happen and if child death continues, how dark will be our future. The lights that keep shining represent that kids are pure and they will stay as the hope for the future. The concrete pillows which try to pull the lights down are the loads which the abused children have to carry through their lives. The concrete looks as soft as that it can be squeezed by a rope; however they are actually rigid and heavy. With creating this form, it is aimed to show that even though sometimes child abuse can be seen as if it is normal or temporary; it leaves permanent marks on children’s mind and heart.

Supernova is an installation that aims to increase the interaction between residents of the courtyard. The project is located in Tortona 31, Milan. The problem is lack of communication between the residents of the courtyard; and these people are not willing to come together. The solution is making people interact through a design which only functions when it is used by multiple users. Supernova is basicly a furniture. Due to its spherical base, the seating unit is only balanced when at least 3 people are sitting in opposite corners. So to enjoy the seat, they must bring/find at least two more friends. To encourage people to use this furniture, all residents will jobshare and help to build it.
